Chapter 658: Old Tavern

Chapter 658: Old Tavern

When Rael woke up, he realized Lilith was already gone.

But she wasn’t far.

She was fully dressed once again, but her hair was wet.

It was very likely she had jumped into the water to wash herself up after yesterday.

He should do that too.

So as he passed by her and gave her a kiss on the cheek, he washed up, got dressed, and eventually bought the two of them a massive pizza.

They didn’t talk about what happened yesterday.

It was clear what the two wanted, and so words weren’t needed.

Regardless of that, the two quickly finished up the pizza and drank some apple juice afterward.

Now then...

"How do we get out of here?" Rael asked the obvious.

"Mmm... I’m not sure, to be honest," Lilith replied. "I know this place because I read about it in the books. It’s like a mythical pool that’s supposed to make you immortal. Though, it’s just a hot spring."

Fair.

"So should I just fly the two of us up?"

Lilith shook her head and then smiled.

"Why would we do that when we can just teleport out?"

Oh...

Right.

He forgot about it because he wasn’t used to having something so convenient all of a sudden.

Still, since Lilith’s mastery over the Law of Space was higher, she was the one to create the crack in space which the two walked through.

And when they arrived on the other side, they were back in Velmar.

It was still slightly dark outside, and with only a few hours left before sunrise, the two were not exactly sure what to do.

But that was when Lilith said something he didn’t quite expect.

"Do you want to have an actual marriage when we’re back in the Dralgur Continent?"

"Why? Aren’t we already married?" Rael asked.

"We’re married as demons," she replied with a hum. "I’m thinking we should get married in the traditional sense too... or something. Sorry, it’s a stupid idea."

"No, it’s fine," Rael said, waving his hands, slightly surprised. "I’d be happy to marry you like humans do. If that’s what you want, of course."

She nodded repeatedly with a smile, and seeing that, Rael simply nodded back at her.

"Okay. We’ll get married when we’re back. On that note, when exactly are we heading back?"

He met her gaze.

"Do you want to stay here until you become the Demon King, or until the ceremony is done?"

Lilith tilted her head slightly.

"Um... I don’t mind either way. I don’t have to be at my territories to rule over them because of your constructs. Also, becoming the Demon King is a very long process. We have plenty of time, so we can just head back after the ceremony. That is, if you survive."

Rael chuckled.

"As if I wouldn’t survive. Have you seen me in the last round?"

"True. You destroyed that demon pretty easily." Lilith crossed her arms. "But don’t get complacent. You’re strong, but you’re not that strong."

Ouch.

Though she was right.

He wasn’t that strong, but he was fairly strong.

For that reason, he wasn’t planning on underestimating anyone in this ceremony, and instead, he was going to take everything seriously.

Nonetheless, with their yesterday’s fun behind them, Rael and Lilith went ahead and walked around Velmar for a while.

Demons didn’t need to sleep, but they still liked to rest.

So they had hours when they worked, and hours when they didn’t. Basically, they were just like humans in a way.

Rael didn’t expect to be doing much aside from walking here, but that was when Lilith suddenly stopped in front of a broken-down tavern.

He didn’t think much of it at first, but after seeing the look of regret on her face, he couldn’t help but ask her about it.

"Did you use to live here?"

"You could say that..."

Lilith let out a sigh and scratched her cheek.

"I used to steal candy from this place. The woman who worked here was blind, so she never really knew what I was doing."

Uhh...

"I’m a terrible person, aren’t I?"

"Well..."

Rael avoided her gaze.

As he was about to reply, she let out a giggle.

"I’m just joking. I used to eat lunch here every day. The blind woman was like my second mother. Sadly, after I got exiled, I couldn’t visit her anymore."

She approached the broken-down tavern and brushed her finger against the frame.

Dust clung to her finger, so she wiped it on her pants and glanced back at him.

"One of the first things I had looked into when I took over this place was the deed to this tavern. It didn’t take me long to find out that the woman had died of old age."

"I’m sorry to hear that... Also, demons can actually die of old age?" Rael asked.

He didn’t see any demons actually dying of old age in the memories of the Eternal Dream.

"If we choose to," Lilith replied. "When a demon has nothing to live for... or they are just tired of living, they crack their demonic core. That turns them into mortals, you could say. They age normally again, and they also die normally too."

"Of course, not all of us have demonic cores." Lilith pointed at her belly, then smiled. "The top demons’ cores have assimilated with their body. You could say our whole body is a demonic core. So we can’t really crack it, since in doing so, we would just die instantly."

Rael didn’t really understand this bit that much, since no matter how he looked, he couldn’t feel this core she was talking about.

But maybe it was metaphorical?

Either way, it was nice to see her open up to him like this.

It was fun listening to her too.

But as the sun began to rise, Rael knew that it was time the two of them went back to the capital.

He was about to create a spatial crack over there, but before he could, Lilith placed her hand over his and smiled.

He immediately got the message loud and clear.

She wanted to spend more time together.

And so, after interlocking their fingers together, the two slowly flew toward the capital.
