Chapter 903: Rune Sage – The Path to Mythos

CH0903 Rune Sage – The Path to Mythos

***

“The condition to step through the doors of the Realm of Mythos is to become something unique or to create something unique which affects the lives of myriad creatures across different planes,” Uthvaazgol stated.

“It is difficult to find something truly unique in the Universe. There are trillions of planes, each bearing trillions of lifeforms. The odds of making oneself truly unique are difficult.

“On the other hand, the myriad planes operate on different rules and have different, oftentimes contradicting, Natural Orders. So, it is difficult to create something on one plane that truly extends to all others.”

The Ancient Dragon looked down at the youth. His predatory lips morphed into something akin to a smile.

“However, as fortune would have it, via your recklessness, you gave up the path of power you followed via the Mage path and fully embraced the Rune-Tech path you have created uniquely for yourself—making you something arguably or potentially unique.

“On the other hand, your Rune-Tech platform, by virtue of your [Rune Sage] spell, is now something that transcends the confines of any one plane. Meaning, it has the potential to be used across the myriad planes just like spellcasting.

“Be it you yourself or the Rune-Tech platform that you have created, one could argue that you possess something unique, and thanks to AVA, you have proven that you and/or your Rune-Tech platform possess the potential to peer into the higher realms of the cosmos.

“As such, you solidified your position as a potential candidate for the Realm of Mythos, granting you a Runic True Name from the Universal Natural Order itself.”

“As expected of the True Disciple that I chose.” Uthvaazgol suddenly raised his head and laughed proudly into the skies.

Alex smiled wryly.

But then, he noticed an inconsistency in what Uthvaazgol had just said.

“Wait, Master.” Alex called back Uthvaazgol’s attention. “You just said I gained the Runic True Name after AVA’s action of peering into the Origin Glyph Script and stealing a fragment of it. But AVA’s action came only after I gained the Runic True Name.”

Uthvaazgol smiled.

It was a genial smile of an elder looking at the actions of a child born from the child’s ignorance.

“The Supreme Laws of Time, Space, Death, Life, Destiny, and Balance can all be said to subjectively function from a matter of perspective. To you, these events happened one after the other, but to the Universal Natural Order, they happened simultaneously,” Uthvaazgol replied.

“How is that possible?” Alex couldn’t make sense of it.

“You wouldn’t understand it if I explained it,” Uthvaazgol replied with a chuckle.

Somehow, that chuckle irked Alex. He looked at his Master defiantly.

“Alright,” Uthvaazgol nodded. “The reason this happens is because

%^&* %^&( )(& (&^R @#$%^ %^& )&^% (&Q#$%^& &$%^&…”

“Stop… Stop!” Alex shouted, holding his head.

He felt a sense of vertigo and quickly sat down on the ground.

Uthvaazgol languidly yawned where he lay.

“See? I told you, you wouldn’t understand.” He chuckled again.

He looked fondly at Alex.

“Don’t worry. Perhaps when you reach Transcendence and gain a realisation of the Supreme Laws, I may be able to explain things to you by then,” he said.

However, Alex chuckled wryly.

‘When will that even be?’

Alex looked at his hands and mulled over what his Master had told him.

‘To think the impulsive decision I made back then would have such a huge end result,’ he thought to himself.

Alex was now technically no longer a mage since he couldn’t control the elements and cast spells by himself. Instead, he achieved it through a platform that essentially moved the world’s operating system directly rather than asking for permission.

Similarly, he was not technically a warrior nor a warlock either, even though he could technically use aspects of both branches.

And he certainly was not a follower of the Deity branch as well.

“Your growth and the growth of the Rune-Tech platform are still far from enough to claim your own Myth. Currently, what you have is the potential. It is easier to follow the crowd than to pave a new path of your own. If you are not careful, you might end up back on a path that others have walked before you.

“Never grow complacent,” Uthvaazgol cautioned.

Once again, his Master repeated a warning that had now become a mantra at this point.

This warning was doubly important to Alex since most of his works tended to be heavily inspired by ideas from his previous life.

For a moment, once again, doubt crept into his heart.

‘Can I really do it?’ he wondered. ‘Can I truly stand out, creating from myself something unique across the cosmos?’

Uthvaazgol saw this and tapped one of his claws on the ground, softly quaking it.

“The matter of you becoming a Mythos is far away. You can begin to think about it after you reach Legendary and prove yourself and your Rune-Tech platform under the Natural Order of Pangea first before thinking of impacting the Universe,” the Ancient Dragon said.

“However, at the same time, don’t forget. Almost every other creature in the myriad cosmos gains the authority to learn the knowledge I just passed on to you when they’ve achieved Transcendence, with the best few others gaining the recognition when they begin their journey to the Solid Peak.

“Never mind Legendary or even the Liquid Peak, you gained the recognition at a mere Gas Peak. That should tell you enough about what you have and what you can achieve.

“Don’t try to take on any extra, unnecessary tasks. Just keep on going the way you always have,” Uthvaazgol advised.

Alex let his Master’s words wash over his mind for a moment.

And then, in the next, he smiled—like a man who had the weight of the world lifted from his shoulders.

“Thank you, Master,” Alex said.

Uthvaazgol nodded.

“Come, then. Let me give you a reward for your successful maiden Interplanar expedition. What do you wish for?” the Ancient Dragon offered.

Alex thought about it for a moment, but he couldn’t decide.

‘Weapons, Armour, Money, Armaments…? I can get them myself. Although Master can most likely get me extremely powerful ones, I most likely won’t be able to use them. And as for powerful armaments I can use at my level, I can just buy them myself.’

‘Knowledge? It is also in the same situation. I can get most mundane knowledge useful to me from the Arcane Libraries.’

‘Also, if I wish to ask for arcane knowledge, spells, and so on, I have to be careful now so that whatever I gain doesn’t contaminate my path.’

The more Alex thought about it, the more hesitant he became.

Uthvaazgol could seemingly see the youth’s dilemma, so he offered some words of wisdom.

“Decide how you wish to attain your Mythos. Is it by becoming unique, by creating a new path… or both?” he said.

“Can I begin working towards my Mythos now, Master? Or do I have to wait for the Solid Peak?” Alex asked.

“Of course, you can start now. In fact, thinking towards your Mythos right now gives you a better chance of achieving something unique, since everyone else starts further down the line,” Uthvaazgol replied.

Alex nodded. He then became quiet as he pondered deeply over what to do.

Still, he couldn’t come up with a request.

‘I have almost always gotten or created whatever I need myself. It is difficult for me to think of something I can request for,’ he thought to himself.
