“You…” Master Sahira almost rolled her eyes. She knocked Asta on the head. “The final level is one I doubt anyone can reach without an innate disposition. I didn’t tell you about it since it should be obvious to you what it is if you think about it.”
“But I can’t think of anything,” Asta replied immediately.
Instead of replying to her, Master Sahira turned to Alex.
“Do you know the answer, Young Master Alex?” she asked.
Alex thought about it for a moment. Then he replied.
“I believe it should be True Spatial Manipulation. Something that cannot be learnt, but is either gained at birth, as with Void Beasts, or through enlightenment or permission from the Natural Order at the appropriate ascension rank.”
“That is correct,” Master Sahira confirmed. “To be able to reach this level, one has to overcome the major limitation of being unable to manipulate Spatial Energy by Will—with their Spiritual Force.”
“This is a limitation even those at the Epic ranks can’t overcome,” she added.
‘That’s because you need to be a Transcendent with the acknowledgement of the Supreme Law of Space to be able to manipulate Space by Will—with Spiritual Force.’ Alex thought to himself.
Alex leaned back into his seat and fell into thought.
‘I didn’t expect a spatial item based on Rune-Tech to be considered an important piece of technology by Space Mages. To think that they would mistake me for a Tier VI Artisan.’ Alex thought to himself.
‘Unlike the Space Mages who exploit spontaneous reactions from Space, I don’t have the luxury of that because the Rune-Tech platform is inherently dependent on stability. A program with unstable code or bugs is unsuitable for the Rune-Tech platform—I won’t even be able to convert it into a Greater Rune.
‘A Tier VI Artisan… Spatial Engineering? As if. It just so happens that the quality requirements of the Rune-Tech platform line up with the requirements of Spatial Engineering.’
Alex almost laughed aloud at the misunderstanding. Though he was technically an Artisan, he was barely a Tier IV due to lacking a Conceptual Domain that aided his constructs. He was far from what the major powers thought of him.
‘But that’s not without its benefits. Since the Coinage Moonstone Interspatial Ring is more important than I realised, then so too is the Providence I will earn from it.’ Alex mused.
He smiled inwardly.
‘Lacing the construction of the ring with Providence turned out to be a good thing after all.
‘The more hype there is around the ring, the more Providence these major powers will unconsciously surrender to me. That should come in handy.’
Ordinarily, Alex would be worried about a Providence trace. However, with the backing of Lord Bonsai, Alex had little to fear on that front.
‘In fact, a Providence trace might actually be a good thing for me. Once they try to track the direction of the Providence flow and knock into the hard wall that is Lord Bonsai, their misunderstanding that Hattori Hanzo is some bigshot will become even more reinforced—meaning potentially even more Providence.’
‘That reminds me. I should check on the Voidheart Core. I should see if the Spatial Energy in the SECS is enough for a new product. I should also think of a way to replenish the energy reserves of the TESS.’ Alex mused to himself.
He sighed.
‘Whether for myself or my Rune-Tech constructs, there is never enough or too much energy.’
‘If I am going to create new Rune-Tech Spatial products that keep the prestige of the Oni Head, then I will have to look into more permanent constructs.’
‘Interspatial Rings and other spatial storage items come to mind, but I’m not sure if I should create and release more of them right now. For in-house use, my wives already use the Sanctuary Space, so they don’t necessarily need an Interspatial Ring. As for my retainers and followers, it is too much of an unnecessary risk to expose them to spatial items right now.’ Alex mused.
Just as he thought this, an idea came to him.
‘Wait! We use spatial storage items that are crafted from natural Spatial materials. If I can craft similar storage items with larger internal storage spaces—of course, nothing as crazy as the Coinage Moonstone—I doubt anyone would bat an eye.
‘I might even be able to get away with releasing a few such items for sale to the powers-that-be.’
‘As for other Spatial constructs, I can look into permanent portals. The existing portals are temporary ones that close down after a few minutes. I can try creating portals that never close.’
‘The problem is whether I should, though.’
‘Such a portal will be extremely energy-hungry. Unless I am using it for some important pipeline or highway that is continuously in use, I don’t think I can justify such an energy expense. I can’t be wasting energy powering a portal that isn’t always in use.’ Alex thought to himself.
With his prior knowledge of Space Gates, Alex was reasonably certain he could come up with a permanent portal. It was just a question of whether he should. Not every solution was needed or viable, after all.
‘I will think about it later.’ He eventually decided.
‘With the energy demands that I am looking forward to, I think I should create a proper self-charging energy battery or dimension. First, I will need to reiterate my pocket space or dimensional room method. I can’t keep relying on luck or the favour of the Natural Order like I did with the Sanctuary Pocket Dimension. Once I fully understand the dimensional space, then I can create different types, including a large battery storage space.’
Alex was aware that he already had resources that could serve as the battery he was envisioning, but whether they would be as stable and as grand as he was looking for was still questionable.
He felt he needed this line of research to be able to safely answer this question.
‘Finally, nothing says you have a good grasp of a technological tree like creating weapons. I wonder if I could create a Spatial weapon in the future. If not a weapon per se, at least an item that draws upon Spatial powers for use by its user.
‘Perhaps an item that can deploy various Spatial moves on command by the user: Spatial Compression, Spatial Expansion, Spatial Redirection, Short-range Teleportation, Spatial Barriers and so on. Something like that would be quite handy to have.’
Alex felt excitement surge through him. The possibilities were numerous.
‘As usual, too many possibilities with too little time.’ He sighed to himself.
This thought, along with another, caused him to temper his excitement.
“Is being a Space Mage risky? I don’t think I have heard anyone talk about this,” Alex suddenly asked.
“I would say yes. Space Magic is much more dangerous and risky than most other forms of Magic,” Master Sahira said.
