Chapter 1290: A Domineering Display, The Calm Before The Storm?
Izroth recognized the name Sage of a Thousand Mazes from one of the books he read in the Formation Master Guild’s library.
The book he read contained the name of every known Grade Ten Formation Master in the Mortal Realm, along with their picture or a description of their appearance.
One of the names in that book was Elric Gray. He was also known as the Sage of a Thousand Mazes. This was due to the complexity he always hid deep within the magic formations he created. It was rumored that trying to break through an illusion-type magic formation he made was akin to having to find one’s way through a thousand mazes simultaneously!
"Child? I see the old men these days are just as arrogant as the ones I had to deal with back then. But, at least they understood basics manner when they stood before me." A voice echoed from one of the private rooms.
All of a sudden, a powerful aura spread through the auction house as the protective glass of every private room trembled. Then, in less than a single breath, the protective magic formation of all the private room’s shattered simultaneously!
Then, just as quickly as it shattered, everyone magic formation was instantly repaired—all except for two. The private room that belonged to Elric Gray. And, a private room located directly across from his.
In the other private room stood a single woman. However, rather than saying she stood alone, it was more than she was the only thing that could be seen within the room. The seats, floor, decoration—everything was pitch black except for her.
When Izroth saw the woman who showed herself through the protective magic formation of the private room, a carefree smile found its way onto his face.
’So, she really did come to his place.’
Elric maintained his composure; however, if one looked closely, they could see a bit of cold sweat run down the back of his neck.
"Who is this person? I have never heard of a Formation Master with this kind of talent." Elric thought to himself as he could barely hide his nerves.
It had been around five years since Elric had became a Grade Ten Formation Master. In terms of experience as a Grade Ten Formation Master, he could still be considered as being fairly new.
It was only natural that Elric was shaken since what he had just witnessed was something that should not have been possible.
Although the protective magic formations on the private rooms were made by a Grade Nine Formation Master, even for a Grade Ten Formation Master, it should at least take a few seconds to dismantle one.
However, not only did the person who revealed herself dismantle every magic formation simultaneously, she then repaired them in the same breath. At the same time, she also restructured the magic formation that protected her own private room and adjusted so that only she was visible.
Restructuring a magic formation was several times more challenging than dismantling or repairing one. Yet, she somehow managed to pull it off with seemingly little to no effort.
That is why Elric knew within the depths of his soul—the woman before him was a true master of magic formations.
"I apologize for rudeness. May I have the honor of knowing the name of this esteemed one?" Elric said politely as the entire aura around him shifted from one of haughtiness to humbleness.
Seeing Elric’s reaction caused nearly everyone in the auction house to look on in disbelief.
"I can’t believe this..! I heard that the Sage of a Thousand Mazes once trapped someone in a magic formation for not showing him the proper respect..! Yet, that same man is treating this person with so much respect? Just who is that woman?" One of the guests commented.
"I’ve never seen someone like her in the Formation Master Guild before. But, if she can get the Sage of a Thousand Mazes to show her such respect, she must at least be a Grade Ten Formation Master. Can it be that she’s an Honorary Elder or maybe the master of the current Head of the Formation Master Guild?" Another guest speculated.
It did not take long for rumors to form as everyone tried to guess the identity of the mysterious woman from the Formation Master Guild.
Though there was one person among them who knew of this woman’s true identity. And, this person was, of course, Izroth.
"I am Hyrell, the new Head of the Formation Master Guild. A moment ago, you said something about basic manners—it’s good to see that you take your own words to heart. But, that is that and this is this. Are you calling into question my ability as a Formation Master?" Hyrell said with a cold and distant gaze.
"I misunderstood and became blinded by my poor judgment. This old man is unworthy of judging someone with your level of skills, Formation Master Head Hyrell." Elric responded with haste.
"Oh? This old man actually has a decent head on his shoulders. You—come join the Formation Master Guild. If you turn out to be at least somewhat useful, I will teach you a thing or two." Hyrell said as she pointed toward Elric.
Elric’s eyes widened in shock at Hyrell’s words.
Hyrell frowned and said, "What? Are you not joining?"
"N-No, my apologies. I did not expect such benevolence. It would be my honor." Elric said hurriedly.
"You’ll be the new Vice-Head of the Formation Master Guild. You can at least handle that much, right?" Hyrell said casually.
"Yes, I will not disappoint you." Elric stated respectfully.
Hyrell looked toward the stage and said, "On behalf of the Formation Master Guild, I would like to extend my apologies to the Golden Treasure House for disrupting the auction. Of course, my previous bid still stands."
"Y-yes. Then, are there any other bids?" Lady Kesa inquired as she acted to reinvigorate the heavy atmosphere.
Though Hyrell’s appearance was not a matter that could simply be brushed over.
Someone who was most likely a Grade Ten Formation Master and also the new Head of the Formation Master Guild, yet it was an individual that no one had heard of before today.
First, a new Supreme Elder of the Fourth Pavilion and now a new Head of the Formation Master Guild. One thing was certain to those present. Things were beginning to shift and change at a frightening rate in Danaharpe City. And, perhaps it was the calm before a big storm.
Hyrell returned to her seat. And, not long after she did so, the protective magic formation of her private room was restored.
’To humble someone with such an overwhelming display of skill—what a domineering person my teacher turned out to be.’
"The Kroma family offers 31,000,000 gold coins. While I am uncertain of what services the owner of this item requires, I can assure you that we of the Kroma family will do everything in our power to accommodate your wishes—so long as they do not go against the morals of our family." The individual from the Kroma family spoke out.
’The Kroma family... Well, I can already guess their intent. I suppose it’s their way of having an extra form of security. I suppose they’re too desperate to merely accept my word alone without making other preparations. Of course, it’s a useless thought to have.’
