Chapter 1302: Vexpela’s Maternal Family, An Old Blood Feud
Vexpela went on to reveal the information she received from the Eye of Insight. As she did so, one could see that she was barely holding back her anger.
By the time she finished going over all the information, Izroth was finally able to connect all the pieces together.
‘No matter which way I look at it, this is clearly the Eight Heaven’s attempt at trying to get their hands on the entirety of the Golden Dragon Association itself. If so, it is a plan that has been underway for at least three decades. That kind of patience—I suppose there are some competent people calling the shots.’
The current head of the Golden Dragon Association’s first wife was the younger sister of a High Enforcer of the Eight Heavens named Egoval. Of course, this information was no secret to anyone in the Golden Dragon Association. After all, it was the main reason why the current head made her his first wife.
According to the information in the Eye of Insight, Egoval was the one who orchestrated the Eight Heavens’ intention to swallow the Golden Dragon Association. He was also the one who marked Vexpela’s mother was a hindrance to their plans.
The reason why Vexpela managed to be kidnapped at birth by a mere maid when her mother had already taken several precautions was due to the fact that it was not just any maid. That same maid was someone who worked as part of a hidden force in the Eight Heavens who acted in the shadows called the Unheavenly.
Members of the Unheavenly were selected at birth and specially cultivated as a loyal tool of the Eight Heavens. Its members could spend their entire life undercover and would still do whatever was commanded of them by the Eight Heavens.
Back then, the reason why Vexpela’s father chose to do nothing about her mother’s death was because he did not want to risk offending the Eight Heavens for someone who had already departed from the world. And, in his eyes, Vexpela’s mother was indeed beautiful and intelligent, but she came from a humble background and had no backing whatsoever. As a businessman and the head of the Golden Dragon Association, it was clear what side he would take.
Though this was not enough to explain why Vexpela’s mother had been completely erased from every corner of the Golden Dragon Association. As it turned out, the Eight Heavens had more than one goal in mind.
After the death of Vexpela’s mother, the current head of the Golden Dragon Association received a single sealed letter with a certain silver necklace. It was in that letter that he learned the truth about Vexpela’s mother.
Vexpela’s mother was the daughter of the World-Breaking Swordsman—a famous figure in the Seven Kingdoms who was the Grand Protector of a sect called the Divine Sword Fortress.
The Divine Sword Fortress was a group that was not inferior to the Eight Heavens. In fact, the two sects had been in a life or death feud that spanned several generations.
When Vexpela’s father found out this truth, he immediately erased all traces of Vexpela’s mother’s existence from the Golden Dragon Association. If it was found out that the daughter of the Divine Sword Fortress’ Grand Protector died with aid from the Eight Heavens, it would trigger a war that the Golden Dragon Association would not be able to avoid getting caught at the center of.
That said, there were still a few things that remained unclear to Izroth. If Vexpela’s mother came from such a distinguished background, why did she hide her identity so deeply? Why did she not request aid from the Divine Sword Fortress and her father?
Given how well Dagraen praised her brilliance, Izroth believed that there was still a piece of the picture he was missing.
‘Whatever the case, it’s unlikely that the Divine Sword Fortress even knows of Vexpela’s existence. But, why did they risk leaving Vexpela alive? A potential negotiating tool, perhaps? Regardless, if we can get the Divine Sword Fortress involved and show proof of the Eight Heavens’ involvement, it will deal a heavy blow to their plans to take control of the Golden Dragon Association. And, even if Vexpela’s grandfather feels no familial connection toward his granddaughter, he will have no choice but to accept her—if for no other reason than to protect his image and reputation.’
Izroth did not know what kind of relationship Vexpela’s mother had with her father, the World-Breaking Swordsman; however, he would be in no position to ignore Vexpela’s existence once everything was brought to light.
“What is it that you wish to do now? If it is revenge you’re after, I can help you achieve it—even if it means turning the entire Golden Dragon Association upside down in the process.” Izroth said nonchalantly.
Vexpela’s eyes widened in shock. The Golden Dragon Association may not be an organization that focused on strength, but their power and influence was not to be underestimated. They directly employed tens of legendary realm powerhouses and had connections with many others outside of that.
Not to mention, with the practically bottomless resources at their disposal, it would not be that challenging to call forth more help if the need for it ever arose.
There were also the connections held through the current head’s wives, such as the one with the Eight Heavens.
Vexpela knew that Izroth could not be ignorant to all of this. There was also no way that he planned on relying only on the Hyrell, the Formation Master Guild and the Apothecary Guild. So, where was his confidence coming from that he dared to utter such bold words that others would dismiss as nonsensical?
“Do you understand what you’re saying? It’s not just the Golden Dragon Association you have to worry about, but all the people behind them, as well as those who will come when they call. Even knowing this, are you sure you still want to help me with my revenge?” Vexpela asked with a trace of shaken nerves.
“I consider Pavilion Head Vexpela to be one of my people. Your enemies have become my enemies. Your grudge is now my grudge. And, I, Izroth, always repay my grudges a thousand fold.” Izroth said without the slightest hesitation.
“For the first time in my life, I have finally met someone I can consider a true friend. That is why, I want to be of help to you. I do not know what path you plan on walking, but… I make you this promise—I will never allow a lack of money to be the reason why you cannot reach your goals.” Vexpela said confidently.
She then continued, “As much as I want to get rid of everyone involved with the events of that day, I also know that it cannot be approached recklessly. More importantly, this is something that I can’t let be solved by others alone. My mother—I must use my own hands to avenge her. Otherwise, I fear this anger that’s boiling in my heart will never dissipate.”
Izroth nodded and replied, “Since that is your wish, then I will respect it. I will continue to support you as the Supreme Elder of the Fourth Pavilion.”
