Rebirth: Ghost Exorciser

Chapter 104 - Arrived Too Late?

Chapter 104: Arrived Too Late?

Chi Shuyan sat in the passenger seat with a calm face, holding the essay collection in her hand. A lively little paper man on the essay collection pointed out the direction from time to time.

Zheng Zhigang drove based on the directions given by the little paper man. Out of the corner of his eye, he glanced at the lifelike little paper man that moved like a puppet on strings. As if it noticed Zheng Zhigang’s searching gaze, the little paper man twisted its head in his direction. Even without facial features, it stared at him as if it had eyes.

Zheng Zhigang was so scared that he immediately retracted his gaze, and couldn’t help but feel jumpy and uneasy.

This little paper man looked so strange. What kind of person was the girl controlling this paper man, and could she really find his daughter by following the paper man’s directions?

Zheng Zhigang drove for a long time, taking all sorts of turns, and felt increasingly uncertain. It was only because of his panic over his daughter’s sudden disappearance that he had looked for his daughter’s two classmates in a last ditch effort.

But he gradually calmed down. What if his daughter was hiding because she was too upset about falling in the rankings, and would return home at night?

And the worst outcome… Zheng Zhigang swallowed his saliva. What if it was these two girls who planned this with ulterior motives?

After all, the world was big and useless. A few days ago, he even saw on the news that a harmless little girl had duped a middle-aged driver. Furthermore, he enjoyed watching detective dramas, where the least possible person often turned out to be the deranged murderer.

When they stopped at a traffic light, Zheng Zhigang probed, “So far? How much longer is there to go? Could it be that Shujun has gone home?”

When Chi Shuyan heard this, she turned to the side and looked at Zheng Zhigang. She instantly saw that his current attitude was vastly different from his earlier trust and confidence, and that he was afraid that he had made an impulsive decision.

For his heart to start to waver and want to retreat… Chi Shuyan had long known that people were the most fickle, but she was still somewhat surprised by the change in Zheng Zhigang.

“Uncle Zheng, if I say that Shujun will be in danger if we don’t get there in time, will you still insist on going back?” Chi Shuyan asked.

When Zheng Zhigang heard this, his face changed drastically. He couldn’t even imagine anything happening to his only daughter. He gritted his teeth. “I’m not going back!” Even if he was being duped, he had to get to the bottom of it. Besides, how could a grown man be afraid of two little girls?

Zheng Zhigang finally made up his mind, but as they were waiting for the red light to change, the long line of cars in front of them didn’t move at all. Frustrated, he turned on the traffic report for this route and discovered that there was a car pile-up up ahead. They couldn’t take this road now.

After waiting for the cars to move forward one after another, they were stopped at a checkpoint which had a lot of police officers.

“What are we going to do? They’re dealing with the accident up ahead, and it might take more than two hours for it to be cleared away.” Zheng Zhigang still remembered Chi Shuyan saying that things didn’t look good and was worried.

“By the way, Shuyan, you said that Shujun will be in danger. What will happen to her?” In the backseat, Li Xiaoting was also worried.

Chi Shuyan frowned and pondered. They were already running out of time. If they remained stuck here, it would be too late. “Uncle Zheng, if we don’t get there in time, Shujun will certainly die, so when I give you the instruction later, don’t think too much and just act quickly.”

“Okay, okay.” Zheng Zhigang jumped in fright when he heard that his daughter would die. Although he didn’t understand what Chi Shuyan was saying, this concerned his daughter’s safety, so he agreed.

Chi Shuyan bit her index finger and tapped the space between her eyebrows. The blood between her eyebrows was as red as cinnabar. She took out two talismans and exerted strength with her fingertips. With a puff, two blank talismans were stuck to the car’s windshield. She chanted an incantation and commanded Zheng Zhigang, “Hurry, drive!”

Zheng Zhigang gritted his teeth and looked at the numerous police officers in front of him who refused to let him pass. Without giving himself time to think, he stepped hard on the gas, overtook other cars, and drove past the police officers through a small gap.

The traffic police blocking the road to maintain order were stunned, then quickly reacted. Fury rose in their hearts. This driver was too audacious.

“Stop, pheeet —” There was a loud whistle.

“Ah, dammit! Shuyan, the police, the police are catching up!” Li Xiaoting, who was sitting in the backseat, had yet to recover from the sense of weightlessness that came with the wild ride. She turned around and saw the police, who were about to catch up, and panicked.

Even Zheng Zhigang panicked when he saw so many pursuing police officers in the rearview mirror. “We won’t be arrested, right?”

Just as they were about to be surrounded and cut off, Chi Shuyan took out a cinnabar pen and drew a few talisman patterns in the air. With a flick of her finger, the two blank talismans flashed with silver light, and like a knife cutting through the air, a rift was torn open. She hurriedly shouted, “Step on it!”

Zheng Zhigang hurriedly stepped on the gas, and the car directly soared right into the air. It jolted so much that he couldn’t even grip the steering wheel properly. Before he could react, the car passed through the rift that was about to disappear.

“Strange. Where’s the car? Where did it go?” It hadn’t been easy to surround and cut off this delinquent, but they never expected this to happen. The police officers stared with wide eyes at the car that disappeared into thin air as if they had seen a ghost.

“This doesn’t make sense at all!”

“I saw a ghost in the middle of the day!”

A car appeared out of nowhere in the middle of nowhere.

Zheng Zhigang and Li Xiaoting stared with wide eyes, but before they could marvel, the feel of the car being pulled down by gravity scared the hell out of them. Li Xiaoting couldn’t help but scream, her face white.

Chi Shuyan hurriedly used a spell to control the car so that it stopped gently on the bumpy ground.

“This is it, we should get off here.” After saying that, she ignored the other two and got out of the car first.

Zheng Zhigang and Li Xiaoting, who were in the car, were momentarily shaken and looked out the window at the wilderness. Stormy waves instantly surged up in their hearts as they looked at their surroundings incredulously. It felt like they were in a dream, and they swallowed hard. When they saw that Chi Shuyan was already some way off, they quickly quashed their trepidation and followed her.

“Shuyan, this is the middle of nowhere; where are we going to find Shujun?” Ever since Chi Shuyan showed her hand just now, Li Xiaoting now trusted Chi Shuyan implicitly.

“That’s right, Master, did you calculate my daughter’s location?” Zheng Zhigang had long abandoned his doubts as he looked nervously at Chi Shuyan.

“Shh, someone’s coming. Don’t make a sound,” Chi Shuyan warned in a low voice as she took out three Invisibility Talismans and stuck them on the three of them.

The two immediately nodded.

When three big men appeared, two of them carrying a large sack, Chi Shuyan’s heart thumped and immediately sank. Was she too late?
