Chapter 613: Chapter 613: Mid-Autumn Mooncake (2/5)
At this moment, Mei Mengzhen couldn’t help but sigh, questioning whether she was terribly bored. There was already a thatched hut in the Spatial Mall that could store all the things she wanted, yet she insisted on buying another wooden cabin under the pretext of personal space. It took up such a large area in her space, what a waste, she thought. Wouldn’t it be better to use this personal space to grow more things and increase production?
After finishing her milk, Mei Mengzhen said to the two people, "I’m going to nap for 10 minutes and then go out for dinner."
The two people next to her were about to tell her not to rush when Mei Mengzhen already had her eyes closed, so they had to shut their mouths.
After closing her eyes, Mei Mengzhen immediately entered her space. She could still hear the outside sounds from within her space, the eerie silence told her that the two people didn’t want to disturb her and were busy with their own things.
Mei Mengzhen decided not to think about anything else. She first developed the land in her space and then planted all the seeds she had just bought. The next thing was to calculate the time needed for the plants to grow.
Also, since she had already planted so many new varieties and it was now August, she wondered if Xiyuan should join the mooncake craze for Mid-Autumn Festival.
Mei Mengzhen came out of the restroom and started searching on her phone. It turned out that making mooncakes was quite simple, with flour as the main ingredient. The rest, like butter, milk, and sugar were all available in her space, not to mention the fillings.
But she had flour ready in her space, didn’t she? When she opened the Spatial Mall and was about to add the mooncake option under the flour category, the Spatial Mall system prompted that the mooncake-making option was already there and didn’t need to be added again.
Mei Mengzhen was puzzled. Had they sold mooncakes before? She had no recollection of it at all.
But it didn’t seem right; the business had only started at the end of October last year. They definitely hadn’t sold mooncakes. She remembered this category wasn’t there in the past. The sudden appearance could be due to the upgrade of the Spatial Mall, which added the mooncake option.
If it’s there, then it’s there, she thought. It was better to use this option than to add it again.
However, when she opened this feature, Mei Mengzhen frowned a bit. In the processing section, there were only two types of mooncakes and fillings. For the skin, there were only crispy and regular dough, while the fillings had only red bean paste and red bean paste with salted egg yolk. This was quite limited, but the flavors may still be acceptable if they taste good. She also saw a plus sign, indicating she could add other flavors if she wanted. For now, Mei Mengzhen just wanted to try the two most basic flavors, so she didn’t use the plus sign yet.
Mei Mengzhen processed both types of mooncakes, and the processing fee was charged per session, 10 yuan each. She made both the regular dough and the crispy skin, both with red bean paste and salted egg yolk fillings.
After they were produced, she tasted them and had to admit they were really delicious; Xiyuan’s ingredients were always top-notch.
How could she not share these wonderful treats with Fan Tianyu and Yan Keke? With a thought, she placed two mooncakes into her suitcase. Then she sat up straight from the bed like a zombie, startling the two people who were quietly playing with their phones.
Fan Tianyu even dropped his phone to the floor. Looking at Mei Mengzhen on the bed, he exclaimed in panic, "Zhenzhen, what are you doing?"
Mei Mengzhen hadn’t anticipated that just by sitting up, she could scare them so much. She apologized, "I remembered I had two mooncakes in my suitcase. I really feel like eating them now, let’s have them."
"You could eat mooncakes without scaring people like that," Fan Tianyu said, closing his eyes in an exasperated yet amused manner.
Yan Keke said, "I’ll get them, I’ll get them. They’re in the suitcase, right?"
"Yes, in the smallest zip pocket at the very bottom, inside the suitcase. That’s where I placed them."
Yan Keke unzipped the pocket and took out the two mooncakes, adding, "You really hid them well, but... Xiyuan’s mooncakes? Does Xiyuan even have mooncakes?"
Yan Keke was shocked, her eyes widened. She truly didn’t expect Xiyuan to have mooncakes.
Fan Tianyu was equally surprised, "Xiyuan has mooncakes? Where did you get them from? Did you only bring two?"
"Yes, since Mid-Autumn Festival is still a while away, they were preparing to make mooncakes and asked me early on if I wanted some. Of course, I said yes, so they sent two over for me to taste first, but currently, there are only these two flavors," Mei Mengzhen explained.
Fan Tianyu took the mooncakes from Yan Keke and examined them. Then he asked, "When did they give them to you, and why didn’t you take them out before?"
"Right before departure. There were too many of us, and these two small mooncakes wouldn’t have been enough to share."
However, the mooncakes weren’t small; they were the size of a woman’s palm, perfectly round, and even stamped with the Xiyuan logo. Clearly custom-made for Xiyuan. They would have been enough to share amongst themselves, but definitely not enough with more than ten people together previously.
"I’ll divide them up." Fan Tianyu conscientiously unwrapped both mooncakes. Without a knife in the room, he used his hands to break them into several small pieces. Although the shapes weren’t pretty, no one minded, and they were quickly devoured. Having just tried the crispy skin in the space, Mei Mengzhen really liked that flavor. "I think this crispy skin would taste even better with date paste filling."
Fan Tianyu thought they were quite alright. "Whether it’s date paste or red bean, they are both sweet fillings, but the sweetness of this mooncake seems quite moderate. The texture of the crispy skin indeed adds more richness."
Yan Keke agreed, "I also think the crispy skin is tastier. Zhenzhen, if Xiyuan has mooncakes, you must save me some more. My dad... Wait, are they limited edition?"
"They’re not limited edition, but you need to order them half a month in advance. There are only gift boxes available, small, medium, and large. The small box has two pieces, the medium box has five, and the large box has eight. The pricing will still need to be suggested by Yiran," she said.
She had seen these details when processing them. Although the production cost was the same, she couldn’t just sell them like that. Indeed, there was no need to do limited editions with mooncakes, which are typically eaten during Mid-Autumn Festival and not much after. Besides, flour belonged to the category of endlessly growing resources. With instant replenishment, there’s even less need for the limited edition strategy. However, she didn’t know how many mooncakes the Spatial Mall could process in a day, so pre-ordering was necessary. Given the instantaneous production cycle, it wouldn’t need to be too lengthy, as the numbers could surely be met.
