Chapter 649: Why Don’t You Speak? (5/5)
Chapter 649: Chapter 649: Why Don’t You Speak? (5/5)
She probably adjusted her mentality gradually after Jiang Xiumei’s death because Xiumei made her realize a truth: sometimes, tolerating everything doesn’t lead to peace and happiness. Being overly accommodating only emboldens others to take advantage of you. But it’s not too late to change, even now. "Anyway, I won’t be bullied so easily."
It was amusing, none of the three of them thought Zhenzhen was easy to bully. Fu Rui even said, "This kind of personality suits you better. When I saw you acting all soft before, it just didn’t seem like you. It was like you were carrying a heavy burden and looked oppressed."
It wasn’t easy to like someone who seems perpetually aggrieved, after all. But this kind of spirited personality was indeed endearing. Having seen it, she could understand why everyone liked Mengzhen at school.
He Yiran said, "Zhenzhen’s personality at home and at school has always been different. I have no idea what she was thinking. She’s clearly smart and capable of coming up with anything; why stick to the dumbest solution? But back then, you were young, underaged and had to take care of Chenchen; swallowing your pride was indeed the most cautious and safest approach."
At this point, Yan Keke got a little excited, "Does that mean there will be a scene to watch when I come over on Saturday?"
"Whether there’s a show to watch depends on her." Mengzhen pointed her head towards Wang Qiuhe’s room. The situation was clear; if Qiuhe didn’t provoke her, that would be the end of it. But if she did dare to cause trouble, there was no way she’d let her off easily.
The late-night snack was finished, their heart-to-heart was over, and naturally, they wouldn’t linger long. The group cleaned up the trash and packed up the mooncakes before leaving.
While everyone else had left, Mengzhen and her brother returned to their room, but Wang Qiuhe, who had been scolded by Mengzhen, was fuming in her room.
She was angry that Mengzhen dared to talk back to her like that, angry that these people had money and kept it a secret from her, and even angrier because Mengzhen didn’t seem to worry about her telling her mother. Did they think she didn’t have the guts?
Wang Qiuhe stewed in her anger all night and only gradually fell asleep in the morning. Meanwhile, because they had eaten late-night snacks, the three members of the household had overslept and completely missed breakfast.
When Fan Tianyu and Fan Tianhua came back, they were speechless. They had worried all night, and yet these three slept soundly through it all.
Even though the Fan siblings tried to keep their noise to a minimum, the sound of doors opening and closing still woke the usually early-rising Mei Mengchen. Climbing down from bed, he opened the door to see the Fan siblings, unable to hide his surprise, "Brother Tianyu, Sister Tianhua, you’re back."
Mengchen’s call roused Mengzhen, who was about to wake. She stumbled to the door, barely opening her eyes, and saw the Fan siblings, adding her greeting, "Brother Tianyu, Sister Tianhua, you’re back."
See, siblings without a doubt, even their questions were exactly the same.
Tianyu couldn’t help but be amused by her appearance, "Yes, we’re back. We were so worried about you that we barely slept, and here you two are, sleeping like logs."
Tianhua threw herself on the sofa, legs up on the coffee table, not willing to move. "I’m so hungry, I haven’t had breakfast yet. Is there anything to eat at home?"
There was really nothing at home. Before the trip, they made sure to empty the fridge, and after returning, they were too busy with delivering supplies to restock, but there were still some mooncakes left from yesterday, "We only have mooncakes at home, and some milk and drinks. Let’s just make do with these for now."
After Mengzhen mentioned it, her brother went back to the room, brought out two boxes of mooncakes they had started eating yesterday, and set them on the coffee table, "These are two boxes we’ve already opened, and there are unopened ones too. I’ll go get them."
Tianhua quickly stopped her, "No need, no need, this is enough."
Each sibling nonchalantly picked up a crispy mooncake and began eating. After eating, with something finally in their stomachs, they felt more spirited.
Tianhua sighed, "Ah, I was starving."
Tianyu was no different. "I’m going to have another piece."
Tianhua quickly said, "Grab me another piece too."
After they each had another mooncake, Mengzhen got dressed, freshened up, and came out with her brother.
Mengzhen looked at the tired faces of the siblings and asked, "Did you two really not sleep at all last night?"
Of course not. They did sleep but were restless with something on their minds, waking up several times. Then they had to book plane tickets, rush to the airport, fly, and hurry back—all without time for breakfast.
Mengzhen glanced at the time, "Wow, it’s almost noon."
After another sip of milk, Tianhua said, "What about her, is she still asleep?"
"I don’t know, I just woke up."
Tianyu suggested, "Why don’t you go check? You also stay in that room."
Tianhua was exasperated, "I really want to go home, to my own home."
"Who doesn’t? It’ll be soon." It was indeed soon. The summer was almost over, and after it ended, they would all return to their respective homes.
Mengzhen, anxious not to forget, quickly said, "I’ve contacted a cleaning company. After we all leave, I’ll arrange for someone to do a thorough cleanup."
"You don’t need to go to such trouble," said Tianyu, who wasn’t particular about cleanliness. Yet, Mengzhen insisted, "It’s always good to be clean, and besides, you won’t have to lift a finger."
With two mooncakes each, the Fan siblings weren’t as hungry anymore, but they were still not satiated. Tianyu said to Tianhua, "Go wake the others up; it’s time for lunch, we should at least get a signal whether they’ll eat or not."
Tianhua rolled her eyes at him but said nothing else. It was up to her to handle the situation.
Arriving at the door, Tianhua grasped the doorknob. When she tried to open it, she found it was still locked. Annoyed, she knocked on the door, "Qiuhe, open up. It’s Tianhua, your sister. I’m back; open the door."
After knocking and calling for a while with no response from inside, Tianhua turned to Tianyu and asked, "Where’s the key for this room?"
Tianyu went to a small drawer by the TV and found a bunch of keys, "I’m not sure which one it is, but it should be one of these. Try them one by one."
While knocking and trying keys, Tianhua finally unlocked the door on the third attempt. However, there was Qiuhe lying on the bed, playing with her phone, and not even glancing their way when they entered.
Tianhua reproached her, "You were clearly inside; why didn’t you say anything?"
Qiuhe glanced at her and remained silent.
