Chapter 1058: Chapter 1058: Live-in Son-in-Law
"Could it really be her?"
The man muttered to himself, then felt someone watching him from inside the black awning boat. He quickly shifted his gaze and merged into the hurried crowd.
Wu Xinming followed the man’s departing figure with his eyes but didn’t find anything suspicious, so he looked away.
Tang Yue’s appearance naturally made her the center of attention in a crowd, attracting many admiring glances.
Even though Tang Yue tried to keep a low profile, her demeanor alone was enough to draw people’s eyes.
They made their way to the Zhao family home.
"Grandpa, Grandma."
Xiao Song ran inside excitedly, his enthusiastic voice leaving no doubt about how much he loved visiting his grandparents.
"Xiao Song is back."
Seeing Luo Xiaosong, Mr. Zhao guessed that his daughter had brought Tang Yue along. Mrs. Zhao wiped her damp hands on her apron. Just as she walked into the courtyard, she saw Zhao Xiangyang entering with Tang Yue.
Mr. and Mrs. Zhao warmly welcomed Tang Yue inside.
"Our home is too modest," Mrs. Zhao said, wiping the chair repeatedly until it gleamed, but she still felt it wasn’t clean enough.
"Aunt Zhao, your home is lovely, I really like it." Tang Yue sat down on a nearby chair, her face expectant, "I’ve long heard about how wonderfully fragrant Aunt Zhao’s homemade tea is. Could I have the honor of tasting some today?"
"That’s not difficult at all." Mrs. Zhao, seeing the smile on Tang Yue’s face, thought how this young lady was not only beautiful but had a nice personality too. She had been very warm when they visited Jing City.
Mrs. Zhao briskly went to make tea, while Mr. Zhao, feeling a bit nervous, headed to the kitchen to prepare the meal.
While offering fruits to Tang Yue, Zhao Xiangyang said with a smile, "My parents are used to staying at home, and they really like you being here, although they aren’t very talkative. I hope you don’t mind."
"Not at all, Uncle and Aunt Zhao are great." Tang Yue accepted the banana Zhao Xiangyang handed her, looked around the room, and found no luxurious furniture. Everything seemed very homely, yet it gave a warm and welcoming feeling, making Tang Yue feel very comfortable. She asked, "Did you grow up here? It seems like growing up here would make one very happy?"
"Yeah, though we weren’t well-off, we were very happy. When I was young and ignorant, I often quarreled with my parents, especially my brother, who bossed me around." Zhao Xiangyang pouted, "You wouldn’t know, but my brother was really strict with me. Back then, I really disliked him, but looking back, those times were truly happy."
Zhao Xiangyang’s eyes shifted from annoyance to nostalgia, especially when talking about Zhao Xiangqian’s antics, making Tang Yue laugh. She asked, "Your brother was quite mischievous too, huh?"
"Exactly, my Xiao Song takes after his uncle, always being a little rascal." Zhao Xiangyang sighed at the mention of his mischievous son Luo Xiaosong.
"Boys are all the same," Tang Yue agreed, "My Zaozao isn’t mischievous, but my Chenchen is like a boy, no, she’s even more mischievous than a boy!"
When boys are naughty, scolding them usually resolves it. But Chenchen?
When Chenchen is mischievous or makes mistakes, she acts cute, and her big round eyes make it impossible to punish her.
Before long, Mrs. Zhao brought the brewed tea, steam rising with a fragrant aroma.
"It smells wonderful, thank you, Aunt Zhao." Tang Yue inhaled the tea’s fragrance, clearly delighted.
"It’s just homemade, nothing special. If you like it, we have more at home, and you can take some back to Jing City." Mrs. Zhao smiled. Every year, they would make their own tea at home, which was the least valuable thing, just requiring a bit of effort.
"I humbly thank you, Aunt Zhao." Tang Yue didn’t have many hobbies, but tea drinking was one of them. Sun Rou’s parents would send her a lot of their homemade tea leaves every year, but there could never be too much tea.
Dinner, prepared by Uncle Zhao and Aunt Zhao, was simple yet very hearty.
In the village of Su City, sitting together for a meal felt quite novel.
Under the bright lights, listening to Uncle and Aunt Zhao’s stories about the past and Su City, even with the age gap, Tang Yue found the day filled with joy.
That night, at the warm invitation of Uncle and Aunt Zhao, Tang Yue stayed with the Zhao family. They had a phone installed, and she called Sun Qing in Jing City to share a few laughs. It was past eight or nine o’clock when Tang Yue reassured her family of her safety and chatted with her two children.
In an unfamiliar place, Tang Yue thought she might not be able to sleep, but surprisingly, she fell asleep quickly. Maybe it was the cold weather, or the cozy, sun-scented quilt, or perhaps the beautiful water town itself, as Tang Yue had a very pleasant dream that night.
In her dream, she and Meng Siyu took the two children on a journey through the water town. The children’s joyous laughter echoed throughout her dream, and Tang Yue smiled even in her sleep.
Dayu Town, Zhaojia Village.
"Xinming, what were you doing, why did you come back so late?" Zhao Chunjing frowned as she saw Wu Xinming return late, "I thought you said you’d come back early, why so late?"
"Jingjing, wasn’t it because of some business that I got delayed?" Wu Xinming had followed Tang Yue all the way to Zhao Xiangqian’s house and now returned home under the cover of night. Handing over what he had bought, he said, "I brought this wine for Dad; I’m sure he’ll love it."
"What business?" Zhao Chunjing asked.
Wu Xinming carried the wine inside and shouted, "Dad, look what good stuff I brought back for you."
"Wine."
The village head, Zhao Lin, could smell the wine from afar.
"Xinming, your teacher’s salary isn’t high, so don’t buy such good wine next time." Although Zhao Lin said this, he couldn’t bear to put down the bottle.
Zhao Lin had no other hobbies, just enjoying a drink.
"Dad, even though my salary isn’t high, I can still afford to buy a bottle of wine for you." Wu Xinming said with a smile, his respectful and filial demeanor satisfying Zhao Lin about his son-in-law. Though poor, being a teacher was a good, learned profession, and Wu Xinming was also quite handsome.
As Zhao Lin had only one daughter, and Wu Xinming was willing to live with them, Zhao Lin had favored Wu Xinming among many suitors.
Zhao Chunjing forgot all about questioning Wu Xinming earlier and went into the kitchen to help her mother cook.
The next day, Zhao Xiangyang took Tang Yue around the quaint village, making Tang Yue feel as if she had traveled through time.
Zhao Xiangyang, like a capable guide, showed her the beauty of the water town.
Wu Xin followed closely behind the two.
In the shadows, in a long narrow alley, Wu Xinming looked at Tang Yue with a face full of surprise, having only intended to try his luck, he hadn’t expected to actually encounter her.
