Chapter 1137: Shadows Leaning on Each Other
Chapter 1137: Chapter 1137: Shadows Leaning on Each Other
"Girl, is Yuan really unharmed?" Tang Jun was worried that Yuan Yu might not tell him, so he asked the girl.
The girl quickly glanced at the imploring Yuan Yu and said, "Brother Tang, Sister Yuan is fine."
She wasn’t lying; Sister Yuan was indeed fine, just slightly injured.
"That’s good," Tang Jun was relieved.
Yuan Yu gave the girl a thumbs-up.
In the evening, they had dinner at Fat Aunt’s house. Grandpa Miao and the girl were also eating there. Fat Aunt’s family consisted of four people, plus her daughter and son-in-law who were visiting with their child. It was a large table of people, with southern rice and spicy dishes, as well as northern dumplings. The mixed dinner was extremely sumptuous.
"Tang Jun, Yuan Yu, we owe this feast to you. Otherwise, we wouldn’t have splurged on rice," Fat Aunt said with a smile. Normally, they ate mostly flour-based foods; although they ate rice too, it wasn’t often.
"Fat Aunt, it’s us who are troubling you," Tang Jun said.
If they hadn’t come, they wouldn’t be disturbing their peaceful lives.
"How could it be? Your arrival has brought more liveliness to our village," Fat Aunt said.
Uncle Fatty agreed. Both husband and wife were plump, being the largest in the village, hence the names Uncle Fatty and Fat Aunt.
Grandpa Miao sipped a glass of wine, saying, "Tang Jun, it’s your presence that makes things lively."
"In the past, the village only had a few people coming and going, it was too quiet."
"Exactly."
Grandpa Miao and Uncle Fatty reminisced about the old times.
Tang Jun listened attentively. The old stories told by the older generation were fascinating to him.
Growing up in Qianjin Village, before middle school, he could count the number of times he’d been to the town on his fingers. As the family’s living conditions improved, he had seen more of the county, and later visited Jing City and Sea City, broadening his horizons even further.
After joining the military, Tang Jun met many people from different places. He enjoyed listening to stories about events he never experienced or heard of.
The spring evening breeze was cool but not cold.
Tang Jun and Yuan Yu sat under the big tree outside the yard. There was a large stone under the tree, presumably a great spot for cooling off in summer.
The full moon hung like a round plate, its light cascading under the tree, filtering through the leaves and falling on them. The moonlight stretched their shadows long. Yuan Yu quietly reached out and leaned towards Tang Jun’s shoulder. Their shadows looked like two cuddling lovers.
A pair of hands seemed tightly clasped together.
Yuan Yu, confident that Tang Jun couldn’t see, was playfully doing all the things couples would do. Tang Jun’s shadow sat still, while Yuan Yu, like a mischievous child, alternately leaned her shadow against him and wrapped her arm around his...
Yuan Yu was having a blast, but Tang Jun felt a little uneasy. Yuan Yu didn’t say a word, could she be upset?
In his mind, Tang Jun recalled chatting with He Ming and Cai Yufei, talking about how girls need coaxing and cajoling, sweet words.
But he didn’t seem to know how to coax anyone.
"Yuan Yu." Tang Jun started to speak.
"What’s up?" Yuan Yu replied absentmindedly, still having fun.
"What are you doing?" Tang Jun asked, knowing he sounded foolish.
Yuan Yu glanced at the shadows entwined on the ground, blinked, and said, "I’m admiring the moon’s beauty. It’s really round tonight."
She wasn’t lying; the moon was indeed very round.
Tang Jun lifted his head, trying hard to see the moon. Unfortunately, all he could see was darkness.
"Ahem."
Yuan Yu cleared her throat, realizing Tang Jun’s situation. She comforted him, "Don’t worry, once we’re back at the hospital, they’ll do a thorough scan and treatment. Your eyesight will definitely recover."
Tang Jun: "..."
As Grandpa Miao had said, it’s all down to luck when the internal bleeding in his brain clears up. Even pinpointing its location wouldn’t guarantee a solution.
"Don’t lose hope, I believe in you," Yuan Yu said encouragingly, noticing his dejected look and losing her playful spirit.
"Yes."
Tang Jun nodded, saying, "I won’t give up."
Whether it’s for himself or for her, he won’t give up easily.
"That’s the spirit," Yuan Yu praised, changing the subject, "By the way, has Sister Xiao Yue returned from Country F?"
"My sister went to Country F for two weeks, so she shouldn’t be back yet," Tang Jun replied. Before leaving, Tang Yue had said she’d stay there for at least half a month.
It’s been less than ten days.
"Sister Xiao Yue’s clothing designs are beautiful," Yuan Yu remarked, "I even went to see them on purpose; each piece is particularly stunning."
"Indeed, my sister is exceptionally talented in design."
Whenever Tang Jun mentioned Tang Yue, he beamed with pride, saying, "My sister was also the top scorer in Jiang Province."
"And you too," Yuan Yu added.
Tang Jun cleared his throat, "You wouldn’t believe how poor my grades were in elementary school."
"Just how bad could it be?" Yuan Yu asked curiously.
"Failing," Tang Jun said, leaving Yuan Yu incredulous. She knew Tang Jun was also a top scorer in Jiang Province, with excellent academic prowess.
How could such a brilliant academic have failed in elementary school?
Isn’t it common for someone to be exceptional and strong from an early age?
"You don’t believe it? Honestly, I can’t believe it myself," Tang Jun said sheepishly, nostalgically adding, "You wouldn’t know, but back then, I loved gaming consoles. In class, the teacher’s lessons felt like hieroglyphics; I understood nothing. Those formulas and words knew me, but I didn’t know them."
"How did you turn it around?" Yuan Yu was dying to know.
"My sister pushed me," Tang Jun answered, "You wouldn’t believe how she made me practice handwriting, run, recite texts, and memorize formulas all summer, transforming me from a failure to scoring in the eighties."
Though he said ’pushed,’ Tang Jun’s words carried immense gratitude towards Tang Yue.
If it weren’t for Tang Yue, he wouldn’t have attended school. Instead, he would have been playing games, possibly leaving school prematurely and wandering aimlessly.
"Sister Xiao Yue is amazing," Yuan Yu said sincerely, looking at Tang Jun. The more outstanding Tang Jun became, the harder for Yuan Yu to imagine that he once skipped classes to play games.
Skipping classes felt like deciphering hieroglyphics?
