Chapter 1321: Nothing Better to Do
Chapter 1321: Chapter 1321: Nothing Better to Do
Wen Yun wasn’t sure how busy Meng Yanzhi usually was, but she often heard from Grandpa Meng that Meng Yanzhi went on business trips every now and then.
Especially since she hadn’t seen him for half a year before.
Even though she didn’t have much vacation, her schedule often rotated shifts, so she was relatively more at ease than the busy Meng Yanzhi.
"I have time."
Yanzhi responded quickly, as he had dealt with most of the things at the company, and he expected to be home for a long period next.
Wen Yun raised an eyebrow but didn’t say much more. Before they even got home, she said, "Um, can you drop me off here?"
"Hm?"
Yanzhi questioned with his eyes.
Wen Yun cleared her throat and said, "I didn’t buy groceries this morning, so I might as well buy some now to cook at home."
Ten minutes later, Yanzhi followed Wen Yun into the supermarket, watching her pick and choose expertly among the fruits and vegetables, opening up a new perspective on her entirely for Yanzhi.
The only thing he could cook was egg noodles.
Till they left the supermarket, Wen Yun was a bit strained carrying two large bags. Watching Yanzhi casually walk over to the car with his hands in his pockets, she almost wanted to ask him to help carry the bags.
But, looking at Yanzhi in his suit and tie, Wen Yun didn’t have the heart to say anything, and just struggled to load everything onto the car herself.
"Phew."
Finally managing to load everything into the car, Wen Yun felt almost out of breath, a light sheen of sweat forming on her forehead.
"Is it that hot?"
Yanzhi had just preheated the car and couldn’t help commenting as he saw Wen Yun pant and sit down.
Wen Yun drank over half a bottle of water to catch her breath. Hearing Yanzhi’s words, she glanced at him but said nothing.
Yanzhi had been spoiled since childhood, and even though over time he had matured and grown more reserved, the thought of helping a girl carry something never crossed his mind, and he never thought of it anymore.
Back at home, Wen Yun was planning to make a lotus root and pork rib soup. She loved soup and couldn’t eat without a soup dish in her meals. She busied herself in the kitchen, and by the time she finished cleaning, prepping, and cooking, it was exactly six in the evening.
"DINNER TIME!"
Wen Yun brought three dishes and soup to the table. Just the aroma was enough to make her stomach growl.
She set the table with bowls and chopsticks, and when Yanzhi came over, she hurriedly served the rice.
"Where’s Aunt Wu?"
Yanzhi looked at the three dishes and the soup on the table, which looked pretty good: lotus root and pork rib soup, stir-fried chili pork, stir-fried spicy tofu, and sautéed bok choy. The colors, aromas, and flavors were all spot on.
"Aunt Wu had something to deal with at home and couldn’t come today." Wen Yun blinked and said, "If you don’t like it, you can eat out."
The dishes she made were very much home-style.
Yanzhi said nothing, picking up a bowl and starting to eat as a sign of his choice.
Such home-cooked meals weren’t new to Yanzhi.
At his grandpa’s place, he had it a few times, all made by Mo Xiaolin. While it might not look as good as a fancy restaurant’s dishes, the memorable taste lingered.
"How is it?"
Wen Yun looked at Yanzhi with anticipation.
"Not bad."
Yanzhi finished two whole bowls of rice. Maybe the dishes weren’t the best he’d ever had, but they had a homely flavor.

"Aunt Wu, have you resolved your family matters?"
One day, Yanzhi called out to Aunt Wu.
Aunt Wu nodded blankly, "Yes, it’s all sorted out."
"Here’s this month’s salary. Spend quality time with your family." Yanzhi handed over the money.
Aunt Wu thought Yanzhi was going to dismiss her and quickly said, "Mr. Meng, is there something I’m not doing well? If there’s anything I need to improve, I can change."
Aunt Wu really needed this job, not to mention the high pay, and the tasks weren’t complicated either. Before Wen Yun stayed here, Aunt Wu just kept the place clean. Once Wen Yun moved in, it included preparing three meals a day and keeping things tidy.
Even though the villa was big, the Meng Family offered a high salary, and she really needed this job.
"Aunt Wu, don’t worry." Yanzhi reassured after Aunt Wu finished speaking, "I just want you to spend time with your family."
"I have already resolved the family matters, so it won’t interfere with work," Aunt Wu thought he was worried she hadn’t dealt with the home situation properly.
Yanzhi added, "I heard your daughter-in-law just had a baby. As a grandma, you should take care. Don’t worry, you’ll still receive your full salary every month."
Aunt Wu: "..."
Every month, not doing anything but still receiving a high salary, she felt uneasy.
Finally, Yanzhi said, "From now on, just clean the house daily. No need to cook."
"Okay."
Aunt Wu pondered for a long time, and as she left, she finally pieced together the puzzle. Maybe Mr. Meng wanted to eat the food his wife cooked, so he asked her not to cook?
The more Aunt Wu thought about it, the more possible it seemed. But Mr. Meng didn’t seem like the kind of person to do something like that.
Thinking about it made Aunt Wu’s head hurt, so she decided not to think further. As long as Mr. Meng wasn’t dismissing her, that was all that mattered. Whatever Mr. Meng wanted was his concern, right?
Besides, they were legitimately married. Maybe the young couple just wanted something different?
...
In the villa, Yanzhi had no idea what was going on in Aunt Wu’s mind. He called Wen Yun, who was at work, "Aunt Wu has some family issues. She can only clean the house and doesn’t have time to cook."
"Oh, then I’ll cook myself." Wen Yun, just finished a busy shift and resting at the nurse’s station, was startled by Yanzhi’s call.
"Okay."
Yanzhi hung up the phone with a ’snap’.
Looking at the disconnected call, Wen Yun was at a loss, mumbling to herself: is he so free with nothing to do?
Today, she’ll have to cook for herself!
Thinking about having to cook after a long, tiring day made Wen Yun wish she didn’t have to eat, or maybe she could survive like in those novels, by fasting?
No, no, since getting used to living in the Huayuan Small Building, she had become spoiled!
In the past, no matter how tired she was, she would cook for herself because it was cheaper.
After work, Wen Yun considered what to buy for cooking. She didn’t know if Yanzhi would come back, but there was still some beef remaining from yesterday, so she could make a simple blood tofu soup.
Alright then.
With a light step, Wen Yun just stepped out of the hospital when someone blocked her path.
"Wen Yun, so you are here."
Hu Shuwei excitedly approached. After learning from his sister that Wen Yun worked at this hospital, Hu Shuwei had been planning to visit her. Finally, with no overtime at the company for once, he immediately came over to find her.
"Long time no see." Hu Shuwei looked at Wen Yun. Compared to her school days, she hadn’t changed much—no, she seemed even more beautiful than before.
