Chapter 1322: Chapter 788: Is Ye Xuan Proposing?
Chapter 1322: Chapter 788: Is Ye Xuan Proposing?
“What are you two whispering about, hidden away over there?” Luo Lian squeezed in between Luo Ye and Feng Tianzhi, eyes full of mischief.
“I need Captain Feng’s help with something.” Luo Ye didn’t keep it from Luo Lian, explaining her current situation but attributing the cause to improper practice of the Ye Family’s Heart Method.
The set date and her last hurdle coincidentally fell on the same day, but she wasn’t sure when it would exactly occur. As Luo Feng’s younger sister and Ying Nuo’s best friend, she had no reason not to participate.
So, the only solution was to find someone trustworthy and capable to cover for her, and that’s precisely why she said Feng Tianzhi was the perfect candidate.
However, if she was only with Feng Tianzhi that day, it could lead to misunderstandings. Adding Luo Lian into the mix might be a good choice.
“Luoluo, is there any issue?” Luo Lian looked at Luo Ye worriedly, up and down, “I mean, will it affect your future… in any way?”
“Don’t worry, I already called Great Grandpa for advice, it won’t be a problem…” she said, glancing at the time, “Great Grandpa should be arriving soon.”
Feng Tianzhi’s eyes flickered, and a wry smile tugged at his lips.
“What’s up with you?” Luo Lian noticed his slightly odd expression and was puzzled.
“Nothing, just amazed at how fit the Grand Old Master is. I had the honor of meeting him a while ago, and he looked even younger than my grandpa.”
Knowing he wasn’t being entirely honest, Luo Lian pursed her lips and turned her gaze to Luo Ye, “Luoluo, you’re not feeling unwell, are you?”
“What do you think? Looking at my expression, do I seem unwell?” Luo Ye was caught between a laugh and a cry, regretting she ever mentioned it.
“I was just worried about you.” Luo Lian nudged closer to Luo Ye, pointing at Ying Nuo sitting cosily with Luo Feng, happiness radiating from her, “Look at your sister-in-law, she’s over the moon.”
“You better hurry up, or else when they all get married, you’ll end up all alone.” Feng Tianzhi chimed in.
“Ha, you’re older than me, why should I be in a rush?” Luo Lian gave Feng Tianzhi a once-over, “How about we make a deal—if in ten years we’re both still single, we can settle for each other?”
Feng Tianzhi gestured as if welcoming her, “Sure, as long as you’re not afraid, come at me.”
“I wasn’t talking about now.” Luo Lian rolled her eyes, “If we’re really going to settle, it should be after I’m thirty.”
Feng Tianzhi raised an eyebrow, “Why would I settle with you then?”
Luo Lian glared at him disapprovingly, “You’re more than two years older than me, I don’t mind you being older, and you still dare to look down on me?”
“What’s a couple of years? For men, past thirty, or even forty, finding a twenty-year-old youthful beauty is as common as anything.
But for girls, well, it’s another story—people might say you’re keeping a boy toy. So, ten years later, your choices will indeed be less than mine.
So, take my advice, don’t plan for ten years down the line. If you find someone suitable, grab hold early to avoid future regret.”
Luo Lian’s expression cooled, “I was just joking. Don’t worry, in ten years, even if I’m still single, I won’t settle with you.”
“Are you mad?” Feng Tianzhi asked with a laugh, “Honestly, with the way you’re acting, you could make me think you have a crush on me.”
“Can you be any more shameless?” Luo Lian shot him a sideways glance, “I thought you knew what kind of image you had in my mind.” With that, she stood up and walked towards Luo Feng and Ying Nuo’s spot.
Luo Ye looked at Feng Tianzhi speechlessly, “Was that necessary?”
Feng Tianzhi’s expression turned serious, “Of course, snuff out any small spark before it becomes a flame.”
“I think you’re getting a bit conceited. Lianlian used to really dislike you, and though her impression of you has improved, it doesn’t mean she likes you.
Today was just a back-and-forth conversation that led to her saying that. You’re being unnecessarily harsh on her, aren’t you?”
“Is today the first day you’ve known me?” Feng Tianzhi lazily leaned back, “When have I ever been surrounded by girls?
If I can’t have them, I can’t give anyone hope. Better to be overly cautious than let one slip through. Little Ye’er, if Ye Xuan treated girls the same way, would you have had to endure so much trouble?”
“Talking bad about someone behind their back is not good.”
Luo Ye and Feng Tianzhi were sitting with their backs to the doorway, so when a familiar voice rang out, they both turned their heads, but with completely different expressions.
Luo Ye’s eyes sparkled with joy.
Feng Tianzhi’s eyes were filled with disappointment.
“I guessed that your Grand Old Master wouldn’t miss such a chance.” Feng Tianzhi shook his head, “Oh well, I should leave. Little Ye’er, your help is here now, sticking around would just be awkward. Let’s catch up… some time later.”
“Thank you, Captain Feng.” Luo Ye’s eyes were filled with sincerity.
“Feng Tianzhi, thank you.” Ye Xuan and Luo Ye’s expressions were identical, “I’ve noted your kindness.”
“Alright, stop with the formality.” Feng Tianzhi waved his hand, “I only relented because the situation didn’t allow otherwise. Once I return, I will continue pursuing Little Ye’er. Ye Xuan, you better stay on your toes; any slip-up could mean losing Little Ye’er forever.”
“Feng Family boy, you truly are remarkable.” Having greeted Old Master Luo and others, Grand Old Master Ye walked over with a brisk step, giving Feng Tianzhi a firm pat on the shoulder, “Though I don’t quite like your grandfather, I genuinely like you. Rest assured, your family’s troubles will soon be over.”
The meaning was clear—this time, the Ye Family would lend their support to the Feng Family, and this favor would indeed be significant!
“Thank you, Great Grandpa…” Feng Tianzhi shifted his tone, “I am grateful for your willingness to help, but my aunt indeed made mistakes, and she deserves any punishment she receives.”
This essentially meant rejecting the Ye Family’s assistance.
After a brief pause, Grand Old Master Ye started laughing: “Young man, worried that you’ll owe the Ye Family a favor and hence can’t pursue Ye’er? Haha…”
Feng Tianzhi, unembarrassed and calm, nodded in acknowledgment, “That’s one aspect. Another is that the Feng Family takes pride in itself.”
Grand Old Master Ye’s expression became solemn, “Feng Jingwu should be satisfied with having a grandson like you.”
“With such praise from Great Grandpa, I am also satisfied.” Feng Tianzhi bowed to the elderly man before turning his gaze to others, “Grandpa Luo, Aunt Wen, Uncle Shangguan… I will refrain from interfering in this matter as an outsider. However, I will certainly attend when Luo Feng and Ying Nuo get married.”
The expressions of Old Master Luo and Wen Xin toward him were somewhat complicated. Fairly speaking, this young man had shown nothing less than genuine care for their Ye’er.
At times, they believed he could be more unrestrained than Ye Xuan, at least that’s what they thought.
“I’ll see you out.” Luo Lian stepped forward voluntarily.
“I’m not targeting you specifically; it’s just, I’m not sure if I can… get over it.” Feng Tianzhi finally spoke as he reached the doorway.
“I understand.” Luo Lian smiled bitterly, “How can I be sure I can accept a relationship either? It’s just… to set Luoluo’s mind at ease.”
Feng Tianzhi glanced at her, “Your happiness… is it faked?”
“Not entirely, but there’s intentionality to it, that’s true. They’ve been too worried about me.” Luo Lian sighed heavily, “From now on, I can’t be causing them trouble anymore.”
“Suppressing oneself isn’t the way to solve problems. If you ever feel trapped, call me. We’ll be… friends, that’s certainly possible.” Feng Tianzhi affectionately patted her head, “You are Little Ye’er’s closest friend and sister, so even if you can’t be with her, helping ease her burdens is good!”
“Thank you, Brother Feng.” Luo Lian’s expression grew more sincere, mixed with a hint of apology, “You and Ye Xuan are both outstanding. Meeting you both and being liked by you is Luoluo’s fortune yet also her misfortune. I believe she’s troubled in her heart too.”
“Hearing you say that, I feel like I still have a shot.” Feng Tianzhi laughed after scrutinizing her, “Feeling any regret for hating me in the past, or speaking ill of me?”
“I’m sorry!” Luo Lian looked at him seriously, “I genuinely feel sorry; I always encouraged Luoluo to keep her distance from you, thinking you were trouble.
Now I see, that was my misconception. Saying this isn’t suggesting you’re more suitable than Ye Xuan, but it’s that most of Luoluo’s friends misunderstood you and it’s unfair to you.”
“Fate is determined by heaven, but one must strive actively. Anyway, I don’t feel dejected, so don’t put on that face. Go back, and I hope next time we meet, you’ll maintain this attitude towards me.”
…
Ye Xuan sat in the corner with Luo Ye, staring at her intently, as if he could never get enough.
Luo Ye coughed awkwardly and asked, “Is your work all arranged?”
“Ye’er, let’s get married too,” Ye Xuan suddenly proposed.
“Is this a marriage proposal?” Luo Ye looked at him incredulously, “Please, even if my standards aren’t high, you can’t be this casual, right?”
As soon as she spoke, Luo Ye regretted it. This response was essentially a tacit agreement to the proposal, wasn’t it? No, she couldn’t give in this easily to this troublesome man…
Before she could think of a way to retract her words, Mr. Ye Handsome had already stood and silently walked out.
Everyone in the hall looked at Luo Ye curiously, their eyes full of inquiry.
Luo Ye shrugged and shook her head, indicating she was equally clueless.
