Chapter 1454: Chapter 851: Welcoming the Crowd (Part 2)

"A loving mother spoils the child!" Zhuangzhuang shouted out, mimicking the phrase.

"Whack!" Li Zexia slapped him on the head, "Little kids shouldn’t be talking like that!"

"Wow!..."

"Can’t do anything right yourself, but you can hit kids?"

With all the chaos in the house, Mrs. Li felt overwhelmed and tried to gently usher her husband out, "Dear, I think Kunzi will be back soon. Why don’t you go out and check?"

"Brother, sister-in-law, has Kunzi returned yet?" Just as Mr. Li was about to leave, Li Xiaogu came in, her face red from the cold.

"Xiaogu, quickly get on the kang to warm up." Li Zexia said while craning her neck to look outside, "Where’s the girl?"

"Kunzi hasn’t come back yet." Mr. Li glanced at the time, "It’s just a few minutes after his shift, he’s probably on the way."

Mrs. Li’s lips twitched slightly; knowing this, what’s the point of worrying just now? Still, having something to make one’s old man nervous is rare. With that thought, Mrs. Li’s smile widened unconsciously.

"Look how happy the sister-in-law is." Li Xiaogu misunderstood, thinking Mrs. Li was excited about meeting the future daughter-in-law.

"Yes, yes." Mrs. Li agreed readily.

"Xiaogu, where’s the girl?" Li Zexia asked again.

"You silly girl, how could the young lady arrive early?" Mrs. Li slapped her daughter, "Your brother isn’t back yet; how could the young lady come?"

"Xiaxia, I’m not blaming you, but you’re a mother now, and yet you’re muddle-headed every day. Aren’t you afraid of being laughed at by others?" Li Xiaogu rolled her eyes at her niece and cut to the chase, "The girl and her mother, along with my elder sister-in-law, will ride over later. I’ve brought some roasted chestnuts beforehand to deliver to you." Li Xiaogu handed the small bag to Mrs. Li, "Find a plate to display them; it’ll look nicer."

While speaking, she glanced around the house. The kang, walls, and tables seemed fine, but when she saw the pile of sunflower seed shells on the ground, she frowned, "Xiaxia, quickly find a broom to sweep this up. I know this is your doing without even asking."

"What’s the big deal." Li Zexia turned her butt to fetch the broom, bending ever so slightly, lazily sweeping the shells into the dustpan.

"Look at how you’re doing the chores!" Li Xiaogu slapped her on the waist irritably, "Can’t you bend down a little? You’re not the one going on a date; why are you dressed like that?"

Li Zexia chuckled, "I’m giving face to my brother."

"You want to outshine the girl; you think I don’t know your little schemes?" Li Xiaogu smirked at her, "Xiaxia, I’m not trying to discourage you, but you’re no match for that girl; she’s absolutely gorgeous."

"How old is she, and how old am I?" Li Kunxia said defiantly, pointing to a photo on the wall, "I was also once young and beautiful."

"When you were her age, you weren’t as pretty as her." Li Xiaogu commented, gesturing, "That little face of hers, fresh enough to pinch out water. Can you?"

"She pinches out acne." Mrs. Li pointed to a photo on the wall, "Look, that was taken when she was twenty-four, with a face full of acne scars."

"Mom, aren’t I your child?" Li Zexia huffed as she twisted around to leave, "I’ll go home for a bit and be back later."

"Great, she’s off to put on makeup again." Li Xiaogu slapped her forehead in frustration, "I know her temperament, why did I just mess with her?"

"Let her go, she can’t help much around here anyway." Mrs. Li said, gently moving Zhuangzhuang to the edge of the kang, "He listens better than my little grandson does." As she spoke, she handed a few chestnuts to the little boy, "Eat quickly while your mom’s not here, or she’ll take them away."

"Alright." The little boy nodded solemnly like a grown-up, "She loves to compete with me for food. Every time we come to Grandma’s, she asks me what I want to eat; it’s always her idea."

Li Xiaogu chuckled, patting his head, "This little one is so clever, why don’t you tell her to her face?"

"If she hears it, she’ll hit me at home, I won’t say anything."

"This kid is not foolish at all." Li Xiaogu hugged the little boy’s cheeks, rubbing them gently, "Come, Auntie will peel them for you; these chestnuts are sandy and sweet, really delicious."

"When I grow up, I’ll peel chestnuts for Auntie, Grandma, Grandpa, and Uncle too." The little boy mumbled while chewing, expressing his promise.

"This child, so sweet-mouthed." Li Xiaogu’s smile lines deepened on her face, she nudged Nanny Li who was busy tidying up the kang, "Sister-in-law, who does this child take after?

His mom’s not as sweet, and his dad’s a man of few words. Who does he take after, with such a honeyed tongue."
