Rebirth of the Treacherous Official’s Madam

Chapter 158: Brilliant Show

When waking up again, it was noon of the next day. Yu Lingxin felt her body loosening up quite a bit, also no longer burning. Just, her waist was still somewhat sore. However, as soon as she got up, Ganlu, Shuangye, Bai Guo and the others just quickly entered to serve, and even before she could say that she wanted to go to Yuli Hall, they just voluntarily said, “Madam has already said to let young madam properly rest. The medicine Little Imperial Physician Chi prescribed needs to be taken for ten days first. In these ten days, need to think less, move less, and stress less in order to regulate your cold uterus and weak blood. The accounts on Yuli Hall’s side, there’s the second miss helping the madam look over. The household affairs at home, you don’t need to worry over for now.”

“Ying’er went to look over the accounts?” Yu Lingxin blanked. She naturally knew that Ming Huayue and Xun Che have always hoped for Xun Ying to be able learn more about the household affairs, coming in contact with the mundane world a bit more. She herself also gave pointers to Xun Ying for a long period of time regarding the management of the household affairs, but Xun Ying ultimately didn’t like it that much. Could it be that this so called anemia of hers was a major illness? That’s why, even Xun Ying all voluntarily helped out in taking care of the household duties?

But after carefully asking, Bai Guo repeatedly consoled again, “Young madam has thought too much. It’s mainly because this prescription of Imperial Physician Chi’s is the Chu family’s secret recipe. Once used, it will need to be for ten days. During this process, one must stress less, else this bitter medicine will be taken in vain. Just peacefully rest with ease. In the afternoon, madam will come over to check on you.”

Although Bai Guo’s words sounded both logical and sincere, Yu Lingxin still kept feeling that something seemingly was off. However, her waist was indeed still faintly aching, also occasionally having faint spells of dizziness. It was better to following Imperial Physician Chi’s instructions and peacefully recuperate.

Very soon, another few days passed. At first, Yu Lingxin even felt that resting for a while was also not bad. After all, she has been somewhat overly stressed and worried previously. But, by the sixth day, Yu Lingxin was just somewhat suspicious and irritable. On one hand, her period still hasn’t come. Generally speaking, if it’s the cold uterus and weak blood causing her period to be unstable, then after enriching the blood, it will get better. However, in nearly over a month, it still hasn’t come. Moreover, her sore waist and light dizziness didn’t reduce either.

On the other hand, being idle all day like this also made her somewhat concerned over the matters inside and outside the home. In the eleventh month, the weather in the capital was becoming colder and colder. For the Chen province that was in the northern regions, the water droplets have probably already turned into ice.

But, every time Yu Lingxin asked the people by her side a little more, aside from Bai Guo and the others urging her to rest, Ming Huayue and Xun Ying would also come over, asking her about her body, letting her not worry, and for better or worst, wait until after finishing these ten days of medicine, then let Imperial Physician Chi have a look again.

Yu Lingxin was helpless, but seeing Ming Huayue being extremely persistent, she also couldn’t bear to turn down her mother-in-law’s kind intentions. Thus, she could only force herself to calm down, waiting a few more days for Little Imperial Physician Chi to come over again for another visit.

Furthermore, what was somewhat unexpected and also made her somewhat surprised was that Ming Jinrou just happened to also come to the Wen’an Marquis Manor together with Little Imperial Physician Chi. In the past ten days of recuperating, even if Yu Lingxin had a quiet and steady temperament, she was still somewhat bored. Seeing Ming Jinrou, she immediately smiled like a flower.

And between Ming Jinrou’s eyes and brows, there was also a smile, “I know that cousin-in-law miss me, but still let the imperial physician have a look first.”

Yu Lingxin extended her hand for Little Imperial Physician Chi to take her pulse, and at the same time, she couldn’t help but glance at Ming Jinrou, as well as Ming Huayue and Xun Ying who were accompanying by the side. Everyone’s face seemingly all had faint nervousness. At this time, Little Imperial Physician Chi let her switch hands to examine again, and after repeatedly muttering to himself, he finally nodded his head, “Congratulations young madam, it’s indeed a pregnancy pulse.”

“Thank heavens!” Ming Huayue, Ming Jinrou, and Xun Ying all became elated, and at the same time relaxing a breath, also bloomed with smiles. On the contrary, when Yu Lingxin heard Little Imperial Physician Chi’s words, she was still somewhat dumbstruck, practically blanking for a moment before asking, “You’re saying that I——I’m pregnant………”

“Silly child!” Ming Huayue smiled, “Last time, when Little Chi came, he just felt that this was the case, but it was too early to tell for sure, and you’re also anemic, so it was better to first recuperate a little, then tell you after confirming.” After saying this, she hurriedly let someone give Little Imperial Physician Chi a red envelope, “Really thank you for the trouble! Please step out for a cup of tea and then prescribe the fetus preserving medicine for our family’s child.”

Little Imperial Physician Chi responded and got up, directly following Ming Huayue to the outer room to write the prescription. Ming Jinrou and Xun Ying immediately came over, “Congratulations sister-in-law!”

Yu Lingxin subconsciously lowered her head to look at her currently still slim waist, and for a moment, all sorts of feelings overlapped inside, seemingly having endless joy, while also having endless melancholy. Yu Lingxin responded with a smile, yet her tears also fell.

Ming Jinrou quickly used the handkerchief to wipe Yu Lingxin’s tears, “Second cousin-in-law, don’t cry, this is a good thing, a very good thing. Second cousin certainly will leap with joy!”

Yu Lingxin nodded her head, also wiping her own tears herself, “Yes, Shenzhi will be happy.” She pressed her lips together, and then turned towards Xun Ying, “Ying’er, tell me the truth, is the fetus’s condition not good, is that why you all kept me in the dark for the past few days?”

Xun Ying’s gaze was crystal clear as always, shaking her head, “Of course not. Little Imperial Physician Chi really just said that the time was too short last time, so he was only seventy percent sure, and fearing that there’s some change later, letting you be happy for nothing, it might end up stressing you more. He indeed said that your mind is too heavy, unable to sleep peacefully, working too much, thinking too much, overly startled and overly worried. But, your body is actually still okay, just your heart and blood have strained too much, so need to rest.”

“I feel Little Imperial Physician Chi’s words are reasonable.” Ming Jinrou followed-up, “Second cousin-in-law, you’re too tense. At the poetry gathering, as soon as you lose sight of Ying’er, you’re just like as if having lost your soul. Although second cousin went to the Chen province, there’s still me, my father, and my brother at home, and also our family’s dumb goose, so what are you afraid of second cousin-in-law! In the future, just be cheerful and happy, alright?”

Yu Lingxin couldn’t help but laugh, reaching out to poke her forehead, “How can you just be this filterless, talking about your family’s wangye like this behind his back?”

Ming Jinrou shrugged, “I also call him this to his face. He didn’t seem unhappy about it either.” She paused for a moment, her gaze slightly flickering, “Oh right, do you want to hear about what happened at Jingfu Temple that day? It was really brilliant!”

Yu Lingxin naturally was curious. Even Xun Ying also nodded as well. Ming Jinrou first laughed to herself as she recalled the event before finally recounting one by one.

To put it simply, it was just the sequel to that chaotic imperial selection for Wu Wang and Wei Wang.

Originally, Wu Wang and Wei Wang respectively got appointed one main consort and six liangyuans each. But, after three families’ young ladies used extreme means, either becoming crippled, ill, or crazy, to withdraw from the ranks, Wu Wang Manor was left with five liangyuans, while Wei Wang Manor had four remaining.

This amount seemingly sounded to be a little less, but for every official young lady that still needed to enter to serve, the competition was actually still very high. And for Qi Pei and Wen Ruoqiong, these two main consorts, they similarly faced a very complicated setup.

Thus, Jingfu Temple’s plum forest poetry gathering this time, just as expected, became the location for these girls’ schemes and calculations. Looking at it from the surface, Qi Pei at the time heard the servant girl report, saying that their manor’s beautiful and clever Liangyuan Tan seemingly came to Jingfu Temple, wanting to go seduce the newly-wedded Wu Wang. As such, Qi Pei angrily went over to look for her with Xun Xiang.

However, when they really broke through the side hall’s doors, everyone present were all dumbstruck, because something had indeed occurred in the side hall. Just, the woman wasn’t Liangyuan Tan, and the man unexpectedly wasn’t Wu Wang either, but Wei Wang!

Qi Pei’s awkwardness at the time practically didn’t need to be mentioned. Wei Wang was indeed a bit frivolous and lustful. Towards this, Wu Wang, this older brother, also wasn’t particularly satisfied, but they were very close as brothers, and Wei Wang’s partners were also all willing, so Li Consort and Wu Wang didn’t really restrict Wei Wang that much.

Yet, in the end, Qi Pei, this new older sister-in-law, went to catch him with a bunch of people, even inside Jingfu Temple. Wei Wang’s face at the time immediately turned dark, but it wasn’t good for him to say anything to Qi Pei. However, the even more awkward part was what followed. Right when Qi Pei thought that she’d made a mistake and was just about to retreat out, the servant girl by Qi Pei’s side screamed out, nearly fainting, because that woman wasn’t Liangyuan Tan, but rather Liangyuan Sun, Sun-shi, the one that had her entry date pushed back due to having a fever on the day of Wu Wang’s wedding!

This time, Wei Wang was also dumbstruck, and Qi Pei also broke down. Accidentally catching one’s younger brother-in-law’s romantic affairs was one thing, while accidentally catching one’s younger brother-in-law being involved with one’s own husband’s concubine that still haven’t entered the manor was a completely different matter.

Most importantly, this was Jingfu Temple. When Qi Pei and them angrily stormed over, it’s not like no one saw.

Liangyuan Sun’s fate was still later talk. If this matter gets out, Wei Wang’s reputation will just be ruined!

But, when Qi Pei realized this bit, Qin Wang and Ming Jinrou who had followed over to check already very kindheartedly let someone go inform Wu Wang to come over to clean up the mess.

As for what kind of people might get drawn over during the process, they naturally had no control over it.

Very soon, Wu Wang just came over, and by his side, sure enough, followed Tan-shi. Qi Pei at this time was already in a panic, not knowing how to deal with the situation. As for Sun-shi, she’d already gotten knocked out by a slap from Wei Wang, so didn’t cry hysterically on the spot either.

The three princes looked to one another for a moment. In the end, amidst the numbness towards the already nonexistent dignity of the imperial family, they called over the attendants, having all the prince manor’s womenfolk, including Qi Pei, all escorted down the mountain, directly entering the palace immediately after to face the emperor and apologize for the offense.

Xun Ying widened her eyes, completely at a loss, “This………..”

Yu Lingxin however was extremely entertained, exclaiming at the brilliance, “Sun-shi in the past was very familiar with Tan-shi in the boudoir? This move of Tan-shi’s really is too brilliant!”

Ming Jinrou coldly sneered, “Sun-shi in the past was very close with Tan-shi. Their two families were originally just indirectly related. Although the blood relationship wasn’t close, but the two of them acted like actual sisters. Sun-shi, because of having a fever, needed to delay her entry into the manor, but she was also scared of falling behind the others, so Tan-shi just came up with an idea for her, telling her to show her face in front of Wu Wang ahead of time. Sun-shi had only met Wu Wang and Wei Wang once during the imperial selection, and these two brothers also looked alike. Wei Wang probably also thought that this was one of his liangyuans that was waiting to marry in wanting to make the first move. Who knew that they would just hit it off like this!”

She paused for a moment, and then continued with a smile, “In any case, now that Qi Pei has exposed this matter, even if wanting to cover up, it’ll be difficult. On Wenhua Academy’s side, they were practically angered to death. A perfectly fine plum forest poetry gathering, with all kinds of great scholars and renowned masters invited over, ended up encountering something like this. In the future, when mentioning it, probably no one will remember the poetry works, instead recalling a certain prince’s romantic affairs. His Majesty was also terribly angered!”

Xun Ying couldn’t help but sigh, “Actually, why go through all this trouble? With that many wives and concubines, there naturally will be more conflict.”

Yu Lingxin laughed, “Every person’s thoughts are different. Probably, for some men, if just having one, then they will feel that they are not valiant and awe-inspiring enough.” After saying this, she also turned towards Ming Jinrou again, having a bit more seriousness in her eyes, her voice also becoming lighter, “Speaking of which, recently, the disputes in regards to establishing a crown prince, have they increase again?”

T/N: Little Imperial Physician Chi, his full name was mentioned once before as Chi Lanzhou in chapter 91, but even I didn’t remember until skimming back through the old chapters again recently. In chapter 84, it mentioned that he’s the Head Imperial Physician Chi’s second son, so occasionally his father is referred to as Old Imperial Physician Chi, while he get’s called little Chi.
