Chapter 1050 - 1154: Fleeing in Panic
They had almost finished shopping, and Huo Jingrui wasn’t comfortable leaving Yunyi here alone, especially since she was pregnant: "Yi’er, we need to take care of something first, then head back to the compound."
Yunyi nodded gently: "Okay, no rush."
Huo Jingrui took Yunyi to the police station closest to the Department Store. After showing his ID, he settled Yunyi in the reception area to rest before he left to handle his business.
Half an hour later, Huo Shirui came out of the station chief’s office: "Yi’er, we can go now."
There was a bus directly from the Department Store back to the compound. Huo Jingrui, carrying lots of bags in one hand, held Yunyi with the other as they walked out. He felt uncomfortable that his pregnant wife had to squeeze onto the bus with him.
He hoped for the market economy to come soon, so that when private purchase of cars was allowed, he could get a car for his wife immediately.
He and Yi’er had already discussed finding business opportunities to invest in after the new year, so when the accounts clearly had money coming in, buying Yi’er a car wouldn’t be a problem.
Once on the bus, Huo Jingrui used his height and strength to secure a seat for Yunyi.
As soon as Yunyi sat down, a frail-looking woman approached and said assertively, "Miss, I’m not feeling well, could you let me have your seat?"
Before Yunyi could respond, Huo Jingrui coldly looked over: "Are you trying to take a seat from a pregnant woman?"
The woman replied smartly, "Who knows if what you’re saying is true or false?"
Huo Jingrui retorted bluntly, "Then how do you know if you really aren’t feeling well or just pretending?"
The woman was not having it: "I ride this line often, the driver and conductor recognize me, they can vouch for me."
Yunyi laughed at this: "Are they doctors now, who can vouch for you? What do you take them for?"
Their argument was loud enough that the conductor looked at the troublesome woman: "Comrade, we’re not holding it against you, but you can’t just blatantly use us. We only know you always pull this act whenever you ride."
A regular passenger on this route chimed in too: "I’ve encountered it several times myself. Every time you say you’re not feeling well. I sometimes wonder, if you’re not well, why do you keep going out?"
The woman didn’t expect this bad luck today; she couldn’t snag the seat and was pointed out. Her face was very embarrassed.
As soon as the conductor announced the name of the next stop, she squeezed to the door. The moment the door opened, she rushed off the bus.
Watching her flee awkwardly, the conductor smirked disdainfully, "Let’s see if she dares pretend to be frail again."
In no time, everyone on the bus started laughing, each with something to say.
When Yunyi and Huo Jingrui reached their stop, they could see Huo Jiayuan waiting at the platform from a distance.
As soon as the bus stopped, Huo Jiayuan waved at them: "Fourth Brother, Fourth Sister-in-law, I’m here."
Huo Jingrui, supporting Yunyi, helped her off the bus, handing the bags he was carrying directly to Huo Jiayuan: "How did you know we were coming back now?"
"I’ve been waiting here for an hour already, you tell me how I knew?"
"Wow, it must have been hard for our Jiayuan."
"Sister-in-law, look how my face is frozen stiff. You have to make it up to me."
Huo Jingrui laughed in exasperation: "So you’re saying picking us up is just a side task for you?"
Huo Jiayuan wouldn’t be caught by her Fourth Brother so easily: "I clearly just missed Sister-in-law, that’s why I came to pick you up. Don’t stir up trouble."
The siblings bickered all the way back to the compound, with Yunyi smilingly watching them.
As they entered the compound, Huo Jiayuan lowered her voice: "Duan Zhuangyu called in the morning, shamelessly saying she wants to come back to the compound for New Year. What do you think she’s up to?"
Yunyi found it hard to fathom: "She’s out of the hospital?"
Huo Jiayuan nodded: "Duan Zhuangyu was in a bad mood, often throwing tantrums. Her mother couldn’t stand the pointing and gossip from other patients and their families. After consulting with the doctor, they processed her discharge."
"Has that matter been resolved?"
"Yes, my Third Brother, considering the child, helped settle her affairs. I’ll fill you in on the details when we get back."
