Chapter 1057 - 1161: Ye Wenyue’s Little Schemes

Xia Dongxue and Yunyi simultaneously looked towards the door, only to see Ye Wenyue walking in with a bag of pastries.

Xia Dongxue put down the dish she was holding: "Not busy today?"

Ye Wenyue smiled and placed the pastries on the table, greeting everyone in the room: "The troupe gave us a day off, and we’ll start performances for the troops tomorrow. So I came back to visit."

Xia Dongxue glanced outside the door: "Baoping didn’t come back with you?"

Ye Wenyue took off her coat, rolled up her sleeves, and prepared to help out.

Xia Dongxue stopped her, saying: "Everything’s almost ready, you don’t need to get involved."

Ye Wenyue ignored her and picked up a washed potato, starting to peel it: "We’ve been having one meeting after another these days, and I heard news that they’re going to the countryside for inspections again."

Xia Dongxue wanted to ask about their wedding date, but considering Wenyue had returned to the third household, she feared Zhang Baoxiang might overthink if she talked too much, so she kept quiet: "Since you’re here, you can stay for dinner."

Ye Wenyue hadn’t planned to eat at the third household. Ever since she reunited with them, her biological mom hadn’t given her a friendly face, not to mention how Zhang Wenjuan had returned to Beijing and was in a tough situation.

In Zhang Baoxiang’s eyes, she couldn’t compare to Zhang Wenjuan, the niece who had grown up by her side. She didn’t want to go back and listen to her nagging.

However, since Xia Dongxue didn’t ask, Ye Wenyue brought it up: "Baoping said after the New Year, we’ll have the engagement settled first, and we’ll get married once we have our own place."

After some chatting, she continued: "When the time comes, I’d like you and Uncle to be there."

She finally revealed the purpose of her visit. Baoping’s mom already had some opinions about her, and she feared her mom might not handle things well, causing trouble.

Besides, she grew up in the main household, and she wanted them to be involved in her life decisions, partly for personal reasons.

Xia Dongxue agreed without issue but considered the temperament of the sisters-in-law: "Have you discussed this with your parents?"

Ye Wenyue gently shook her head: "Not yet, I’ll tell them when I see them."

Yunyi thought of something and looked at Ye Wenhao: "Second Brother, when will Sister Wenhui arrive in Beijing?"

Ye Wenhao was clearing out ashes: "She’ll arrive early tomorrow morning, Second Uncle will pick them up. The temperature’s dropping these days, so you don’t need to go."

Xia Dongxue was preparing to cook: "You all go out, don’t stay here in the smoke and heat."

She was worried Yunyi might feel unwell from the smell, but didn’t want to openly point out Yunyi’s pregnancy: "Go to the living room and chat."

Ye Wenhao instantly understood his mom’s intentions; after all, you usually wait to announce a pregnancy until it’s stable: "Let’s go, let’s move."

Ye Wenyue had her own concerns and naturally wanted to bond more with Xia Dongxue, as her future wedding’s success mostly depended on the main household.

She knew it wasn’t ideal, but there was more than one son in Baoping’s family. She had to be cautious about her standing among the sisters-in-law.

Yunyi was naturally appreciative: "Let’s go, I brought good tea back, let’s brew a pot and have a taste."

When leaving the kitchen, she didn’t forget to ask: "Mom, is Dad coming back for lunch?"

Xia Dongxue turned around and waved: "Today, the financial chief’s daughter at his work is getting married, he went to offer congratulations."

Ye Wenhao chimed in: "I called Dad earlier, he said he might come back for lunch."

Upon hearing this, Xia Dongxue decided to add a dish to ensure there was enough food.

Yunyi had no objections to Ye Wenyue staying to help in the kitchen, given their eighteen-year bond.

Though Xia Dongxue came from the cultural troupe, she was adept at household chores, including cooking. Soon, the dishes were ready, but Ye Bingyu couldn’t come.

At the dining table, Xia Dongxue treated everyone equally, using public chopsticks to serve everyone, including Ye Wenhao.

After clearing the dishes, she was preparing to brew another pot of tea and sit down for a chat when suddenly, a child’s piercing cries and a woman’s yelling were heard from outside.

Xia Dongxue looked at her second son: "Wenhao, go see what’s happening out there."
