However, it wasn’t long before the tranquility of the room was shattered by the sound of the front door.

Yunyi knew it must be Wei Hongjun and his wife returning. "That must be Auntie Wei’s eldest son and his wife," she murmured.

With that, she withdrew from Huo Jingrui’s embrace and headed straight for the door.

Upon opening the door, she saw the two of them parking their car in the courtyard. "Brother Wei, Sister-in-law, you’re back?"

Hearing her voice, Wei Hongjun looked up. "Yunyi?"

Yunyi smiled and walked out. "It’s me."

Before Wei Hongjun could say anything else, Cheng Lanlan, having parked the car, spoke up first, "Yunyi, why are you back?"

Perhaps realizing her words sounded abrupt, she quickly added, "Don’t get me wrong, I didn’t mean anything else by it."

Yunyi laughed. "It’s okay, I understand."

Cheng Lanlan pulled Yunyi over. "Have you had dinner yet?"

Yunyi nodded. "I have. I ate at Auntie Wei’s place. How is your aunt doing?"

Hearing the question, Cheng Lanlan understood that her mother-in-law must have told Yunyi. "Sigh," she said, "she’s getting on in years. How could she withstand such a fall? She fractured her lumbar spine. She’s really suffering."

While they were talking, Cheng Lanlan looked up and noticed Huo Jingrui emerging from the house. "Who is this?"

Yunyi introduced with a smile, "This is my fiance, Huo Jingrui."

Then she introduced Huo Jingrui, "This is Brother Hongjun and Sister-in-law Lanlan from Auntie Wei’s family."

After exchanging a few pleasantries, Huo Jingrui, noting that it was getting late, said, "Yi’er, it’s getting late. I’ll be heading off now. I won’t come over in the morning but will come to get you at noon. I’ll take you out for something delicious."

Yunyi nodded and escorted him to the front gate.

Huo Jingrui didn’t let her walk him out further. "Don’t come out. I can go by myself. You should rest early."

Yunyi didn’t insist. She watched him walk away until he was out of sight, then turned back into the courtyard.

Thinking of preparing gifts for the Huo Family, she said goodnight to Wei Hongjun and his wife, then returned to her room early with the items her future mother-in-law had given her.

Once inside, she locked the door, drew the curtains, turned off the light, and entered her space.
