Ye Bingkun stepped out the door and immediately saw his younger daughter hiding behind it, a twinge of heartache flashing through his eyes. "It’s all right," he said, "your brother is here."

The little girl, blinking her large eyes, wrapped her arms around Ye Bingkun’s arm and whispered, "Dad, when will it all end?"

Hearing this, Ye Bingkun, a grown man, suddenly felt his eyes welling up. It was all his fault for making the child suffer with them. "Wenxia," he choked out, "it’s all Dad’s fault. I won’t argue with your mom anymore."

He had been thinking that their children were growing up. Even if he disliked Zhang Baoxiang, for the sake of their three children and her contributions to the family, he had gradually let go of past grievances. He had wanted to live peacefully with her.

Patting his little daughter’s head, he said, "Go inside. I still have work to attend to at the office, so I won’t be home for lunch." With that, he pushed the bicycle parked outside the door and headed toward the entrance of the alley.

Meanwhile, after having breakfast near Huguo Temple, Yunyi visited Beijing Film Academy to meet with Gui Kairong before leaving. From him, she also learned that the movie premiere would be on the twenty-third of the twelfth lunar month in Beijing.

Seeing that the time was almost right, she headed to the roast duck restaurant. The takeaway service only started at ten, but she arrived half an hour early to queue up – fortunately, there weren’t many people in line today, probably because of the cold weather.

She directly ordered eleven ducks. After finding a secluded spot to put ten of them into her space, she set aside the remaining one. She then bought some pastries and made her way to the cemetery.

After chatting with her grandfather and adoptive parents about recent events and what she planned to do with the Chu Family’s house and the money they left her, she left the cemetery.

Upon reaching the mouth of the alley, she coincidentally saw Huo Jingrui, who had just parked his car.

Yunyi didn’t go home but instead joined Huo Jingrui in his car, ready to go for lunch.

However, no sooner had the car started moving than they were stopped by Cheng Lanlan, who had returned early. "Yunyi," Cheng Lanlan called out, "have you seen the person?"

Yunyi was perplexed. "Which person?"

Cheng Lanlan understood from her reaction. "Didn’t you go home?"

Yunyi pointed at Huo Jingrui. "I just ran into him here, and we were about to go for lunch."

Cheng Lanlan now understood. Had she not returned in time, that couple would have been waiting much longer. "Just after you left this morning," she explained, "a couple came looking for you, claiming to be your relatives.

"I made a special trip to find my mother-in-law before going to work, asking her to stay and keep them company at home."

Hearing this, Yunyi and Huo Jingrui exchanged glances, a silent understanding passing between them. "Then we should go back and check it out first," Yunyi said.

Huo Jingrui parked the car back in its spot, and the three of them returned home together.

As soon as they entered the yard, Auntie Wei saw Yunyi and said to Xia Dongxue beside her, "See, what did I tell you."

Xia Dongxue, upon seeing Yunyi, couldn’t control the mist forming in her eyes. Fearing Yunyi would notice, she quickly brushed her hair aside with her hand to cover it up, asking softly, "You’re back?"

Ye Bingyu, who was in the living room, also came out as soon as he heard the commotion.

Yunyi nodded at them. "What brings you here?"

Xia Dongxue stepped forward, reaching out to tentatively take Yunyi’s hand. "We knew you were back, so we came over."

Yunyi didn’t pull away. "It’s time for lunch. Why don’t we find a place to eat and talk?"
