Chapter 649: Seeds of Doubt
Chapter 649: Chapter 649: Seeds of Doubt
Yunyi was living comfortably, but Lian Shuzhen, who came to stir up trouble that day, was having a hard time.
Ever since that day when Yunyi used a little trick, Lian Shuzhen’s health began to decline, getting worse a week later.
Initially, she didn’t pay much attention to it, but a week later, her body emitted a strange odor, making her afraid to leave the house, and that day Deputy County Mayor Gao, who went to pick her up, also started to feel unwell.
It wasn’t until Lian Shuzhen felt her condition worsening that she panicked, hurriedly asked for leave from the village officials, and went into town to find her aunt, Bai Yutong: "Auntie, I’m not feeling well, can you take me to the hospital?"
Upon smelling the odor on her niece, Bai Yutong frowned involuntarily. The reason was simple; her own husband had recently been experiencing similar symptoms and had the same smell, which made her mind race with possibilities and put her on guard.
Her gaze at her niece was also not too friendly: "Shuzhen, when did you start feeling unwell?"
Lian Shuzhen didn’t notice her aunt’s strange behavior and thought for a moment: "A few days ago, I just felt lethargic, and I didn’t think much of it. But lately, my body always has an odor, and even the floral water I brought to the countryside can’t mask it.
The people sharing a room with me kept making insinuations, so I took leave to come over and plan to visit the hospital."
Although Bai Yutong was suspicious, she still took Lian Shuzhen to the county hospital. However, at the hospital, two doctors in a row couldn’t pinpoint the cause, only suggesting that it might be due to poor hygiene and advising her to pay more attention to personal cleanliness.
These words almost drove Lian Shuzhen to rage. At her age, if such a rumor spread, how could she face anyone in the future?
She angrily shouted at the doctor: "If you can’t diagnose it, just admit it. How dare you spout nonsense here, what a quack!"
After saying that, without caring about her aunt still in the consultation room, she turned and left.
Bai Yutong was about to apologize to the doctor when she heard the doctor say, "Dare to do but not admit, probably just lack of life discipline, contracted from someone else."
Hearing this, Bai Yutong’s face turned pale: "Doctor, what do you mean by that?"
The doctor, upset by the unwarranted insult, responded unpleasantly: "Just as it sounds, so young and up to no good."
Bai Yutong didn’t even care to retort, stumbling out of the room, her mind in chaos.
If things were as she imagined, what should she do?
It wasn’t until Lian Shuzhen was outside the hospital that she remembered her aunt was still in the consultation room. She waited outside for a while before seeing her aunt approaching: "Auntie, we have to tell Uncle about this. How can they let someone like that be a doctor? Isn’t it harmful?"
Bai Yutong gave her niece a complicated look: "Let’s talk when we get home."
Lian Shuzhen remembered her reason for taking leave: "Auntie, what about my illness?"
Bai Yutong, now frazzled and annoyed, had no patience: "The county hospital has this standard. If you think the doctor is wrong, then go to the city hospital for a check-up."
Lian Shuzhen didn’t pick up on her aunt’s perfunctory and impatient tone: "I knew Auntie would be the best to me, but I only took a day’s leave. If I go to the city hospital, I might not make it back today."
Bai Yutong squinted slightly: "City hospital, I’m afraid I won’t have time to accompany you, but I can help you get a few more days off from the village."
Lian Shuzhen looked at Bai Yutong with wide eyes: "Auntie, you’re not going with me?"
Bai Yutong nodded: "Your eldest cousin is arranging a marriage, I can’t leave."
Lian Shuzhen was filled with disappointment: "Going alone, how can that work?"
