Chapter 930 - 931: Childhood Friends’ Dinner Party

Huo Jingrui said nonchalantly, "I’m his future brother-in-law, he wouldn’t dare."

He laughed as he spoke. The two had known each other since they were young and used to live in the military family compound. They had fought many times, but their relationship grew stronger because of it.

The Lu and Huo families complemented each other naturally, so even the younger generation got along quite well. Later, they joined different military units, so they saw each other less frequently.

The two first stopped by the department store, bought a bunch of candies, and then headed to the gathering spot.

The place they chose for the gathering was a private kitchen.

If not led by someone, they probably wouldn’t have found the place, as it was located in a residential area, inside a second courtyard of a four-section compound.

The courtyard was tastefully decorated, but it was a pity it was winter. If it were summer, it would surely be another beautiful scene.

As soon as they entered the courtyard, someone shouted at them, "Fourth Brother Huo, over here."

Hearing the nickname, it was clear, without a doubt, it must be either a childhood buddy or a close comrade.

Huo Jingrui brought Yunyi forward, and the two men bumped arms naturally and smoothly, showing it was a habitual action.

After exchanging a few pleasantries, Huo Jingrui introduced Yunyi, "This is Xue Liangyu, the third son of Uncle Xue who lives behind our house. He works at the city’s Grain Bureau and is now at the main section level."

Then he promptly introduced Yunyi to Xue Liangyu, "This is my wife, Chuyunyi."

After greeting each other, Xue Liangyu remarked, "Fourth Brother Huo, your wife is truly beautiful. You’re quite lucky."

The three of them chatted as they entered the private room.

Huo Jingrui explained to Yunyi, "Some of the childhood friends who are here today couldn’t come to our wedding due to work, so we arranged this gathering."

Upon entering, the others started cheering and making noise.

Fearful that Yunyi might feel uncomfortable, Huo Jingrui promptly placed the prepared cigarettes and candies on the table, "These are wedding cigars and candies, everyone, let’s share the happiness."

The cigarettes were ones Huo Jingrui had procured from his dad, all specially supplied.

Nobody stood on ceremony, and Xue Liangyu immediately opened a pack of cigarettes and began distributing them to the men present, "Come on, come on, these are Fourth Brother Huo’s wedding cigars, everyone, have one and share the happiness."

No sooner had he said that, than a girl beside him turned to Huo Jingrui and said, "Fourth Brother Huo, aren’t you going to introduce us?"

Huo Jingrui pointed to the girl, "This is the youngest daughter of the Du family from the compound, Du Yanmei. To her left is her second brother, Du Yanjiang."

Yunyi nodded slightly at the siblings, "Hello."

Du Yanmei, lively, said, "Sister-in-law, Fourth Brother Huo has always been very popular in our compound, who would’ve thought you’d snag him...."

Before she could say more, Fang Zhengyi, sitting across, interrupted, "You couldn’t win his affections, so you’re trying to tease Fourth Brother Huo?"

Du Yanmei burst into laughter, "Don’t be surprised if, when sister-in-law goes back, she really gives him a good interrogation."

Her words amused everyone present.

Huo Jingrui ignored their joshing and continued introducing, "That’s Fang Zhengyi, who works at the Railway Bureau. Beside him is his wife, Fan Lixia, who is a primary school teacher."

Fan Lixia smiled and said to Yunyi, "Sister-in-law, I heard you participated in the college entrance exam this year?"

Yunyi nodded slightly, "Yes."

Fan Lixia smilingly said, "My sister participated too; her score was average. We aren’t sure whether she’ll be admitted."
