"Let’s go, I’ll drop you and the kids off at your parents’ place on my way."

After settling in the driver’s seat, Kang Li looked back at the rear seats.

Min Rui, Ming Han, and Ming Wei nodded, and the little ones—Bun, Tangyuan, and Guoguo—who were sitting on their laps, nodded their tiny heads too.

Kang Li turned her gaze back and reminded Lin Dan, "Hold the kids tight."

Lin Dan responded softly, "Mm."

Through the half-open window, Kang Li waved goodbye to Captain Kang, Cai Xiufen, Big Brother Kang, and the others, started the car, and soon enough, with her hands on the wheel, drove slowly out the gate.

Once she safely delivered Lin Dan and her kids to the entrance of the family compound where the Lin family lived, Kang Li fetched Lin Dan’s travel bag from the trunk, just as someone called out to this niece-in-law.

"I did call my parents before heading out."

Hearing her parents’ voices, Lin Dan’s face broke out into a big smile.

Kang Li knew Father Lin and Mother Lin, so when they came over, she smiled and greeted them, handed Lin Dan’s travel bag to Father Lin, didn’t chat much, and simply said goodbye before getting back in the driver’s seat.

"Auntie, drive safe!"

Handing her son to his mom, Lin Dan walked over to the car, smiling and waving.

Kang Li nodded. She said, "It’s cold outside, hurry home with your parents, don’t let the kids catch a chill." And with that, under Lin Dan’s gaze, she drove off.

The holidays flew by quickly. Kang Li’s mother and the others stayed at the Jiang family old house with Jiang Boya and Jiang Hongfa for less than a week before it was time for the new semester to begin. Soon after, Min Rui, Ming Han, Ming Wei, and the three little ones—Bun, Tangyuan, and Guoguo—all returned to their schools (and kindergarten) to start their new academic journeys.

Days passed, and in the blink of an eye, there were less than two months until Min Rui’s college entrance exam.

To make sure Min Rui could get a good score in the exams, Kang Li took the lead and the whole family, adults and kids alike, stayed quiet every day, making sure not to make too much noise or disturb Min Rui’s studies and rest.

They also made sure Min Rui’s meals gave him enough nutrition, so he wouldn’t lack anything and run out of energy.

That day, after finishing evening classes, Min Rui was being driven home by Kang Li. After hesitating for a long while, he softly called out, "Mom."

"Hmm?"

Kang Li was driving and, upon hearing Min Rui’s voice, glanced at her eldest son: "If you have something to say, go ahead. Mom’s listening."

"Actually, the family doesn’t need to treat me any differently, and there’s still a lot of time before the exam. If everyone has to hold back because of me—can’t speak loudly, can’t laugh—I really feel bad about it."

Min Rui pressed his lips together, paused for a moment, then continued, "I’ve already finished most of my review. When I get home, reading a bit or not reading at all is fine."
