Chapter 857: Chapter 857: Can’t You Let Me Finish What I’m Saying?
Mrs. Qi laughed, but she still agreed, saying, “Alright, I’ll make it for us someday.”
Director Song: “Do we have Sichuan pepper, star anise, bay leaves…those seasonings at home?”
Mrs. Qi nodded, “Yes, but not much left. I’ll go buy more soon. With another month or so to New Year, the little we have won’t be enough.”
“Li Bao and Yanqing are probably going back to their hometown for the New Year.”
Upon hearing Director Song say this, both Mrs. Qi and Song Xuan were stunned. Song Xuan asked, “Do Aunt and Uncle really have to go back to their hometown?”
Although he had heard Aunt, Uncle Guoan, and Brother Yang mention returning to their hometown for the New Year on the way home after the college entrance exam, if they really went back before New Year, he wouldn’t be able to see Aunt and Ruirui for quite some time!
Thinking of this, Song Xuan couldn’t help but feel a bit down.
“Your aunt hasn’t been back for two years. Now that your uncle is on vacation at home, they need to go back to their hometown once and have a good reunion New Year with the family.”
Though Director Song said this, he felt a bit low too, adding, “Celebrating New Year is just about having fun, and if there aren’t many people at home, even New Year’s Eve dinner loses its flavor.”
“Why are you saying this?”
Thinking of their deceased son and daughter-in-law, Mrs. Qi felt her eyes well up, wiping the corners of her eyes, “If Xuan Xuan’s parents were still around, our New Year’s Eve dinner would surely be lively too.”
“Alright, alright, I’ll stop talking, lest I bring out your sad memories again.”
Director Song forced a smile and pointed at the stew in the basin, “Eat up, or it’ll lose its flavor once it cools.”
Elsewhere, Kang Li returned home to find that the stew in her bowl had been eaten by Luo Yanqing. Looking at the empty bowl, Kang Li’s eyes widened, while Cai Xiufen laughed, “Yanqing helped you finish it…”
Kang Li asked Luo Yanqing crossly, “Why did you eat from my bowl?”
“Can’t you let me finish my sentence?”
Cai Xiufen said irritably, “Yanqing saw your stew had gone cold and worried you’d get a stomachache after eating, so he helped you eat it and said he’d serve you some fresh from the pot once you came in.”
Kang Li looked at Luo Yanqing, “Is that what Mom said?”
“Yes, I’ll serve you right now.”
Luo Yanqing nodded, stepping out toward the living room door. Kang Li shouted after him, “Aren’t you taking a bowl? Or are you going to serve it into your hands?”
“I’ll get you another bowl.”
His voice drifted back as his figure disappeared beyond the living room door.
“You, what should I say about you? Always picking on Yanqing!”
Cai Xiufen shook her head in mild exasperation, while Min Rui and the others had already returned to their rooms to do homework after dinner.
Kang Li retorted, “How am I picking on him, Mom? Don’t wrong your daughter.”
Pausing briefly, seeing Luo Yanqing enter with a bowl, she couldn’t help but say, “You guys eat really fast, don’t you? I just stepped out for a moment, and you’d already put down your chopsticks.”
“We’re not birds pecking at food, how slow do you want us to eat?”
Rolling her eyes at her beloved daughter, Cai Xiufen prepared to clean up the table, but Luo Yanqing had just placed Kang Li’s rice bowl down and started tidying, saying, “Mom, take a break, I’ll brush up in the kitchen.”
Before Cai Xiufen could respond, Luo Yanqing’s figure was already gone from the living room again.
“Mom, why are you looking at me like that?”
Seeing her mom wiping the table while staring at her, Kang Li felt puzzled and casually asked.
