Reborn As Noble

Chapter 1266: Silent Shots in the Night ( 1266 )

Chapter 1266: Silent Shots in the Night ( 1266 )

"Phone? Radio?"

Fayna tilted her head in confusion, while the other girls exchanged puzzled glances.

"Yeah. The things we used back in my old world. They’re devices that allow instant communication over long distances. You can speak to someone on the other side of the world in real time, send messages instantly, and coordinate without delays. It would be incredibly useful for our missions, especially in a world like this where information travels slowly."

"Wow..." Fayna’s eyes widened with wonder. "If we had something like that, we would have a huge advantage over our enemies. We could communicate instantly with our agents, coordinate attacks, and gather intelligence without delay."

"Mm..." Vane nodded, a hint of frustration in his voice. "For seven years, ever since we were summoned to this world, I’ve been suggesting we create a magic tool that works like a phone or radio. I even laid out the blueprint for it, but Julius and the others mocked me, laughing at my idea. They said it was impossible, that it would take too much time, and that no one in this world would know how to make it work."

He exhaled and shook his head, his gaze fixed on the map.

"Julius told me to focus on training, leveling up, and growing stronger instead. He said that was the only way to survive and succeed in this world. Because of that, I never got any funding from the king to develop the idea. They dismissed it as a waste of time and resources."

"Even if the first attempt failed, we had seven years to at least develop something, even if it wasn’t for the whole world, but at least for short-distance communication that could help us in missions."

Vane glanced at all the girls, his expression serious.

"When I made the first prototype, it wasn’t perfect. The distance was limited, only about a hundred paces apart, but it still worked. We could communicate clearly within that range. It was a proof of concept, a small step, but a step forward."

He sighed, a hint of regret in his voice.

"If I had received funding and used those seven years to develop it further, we might have had something that could cover at least a few miles by now. Even if the device was larger than a palm, and the magic frequency wasn’t fully understood, it would have been better than nothing."

He shook his head, turning back to the map.

"Sigh... if only they had listened to me back then."

Vane straightened up, refocusing on the task at hand.

"Anyway, we’ll plan our route properly once we meet Gorak and gather more information from him. But for now, we have three choices. Maybe by the time we arrive, Gorak will already have information on which road we should take."

"Yes, Sir Vane," the girls replied in unison, their voices filled with determination.

Meanwhile.

At the same night.

Some area within Mathrias Region.

The golden knight stood at a distance, observing a large base hidden deep within a thick forest. Using thermal vision and mana-enhanced sensors, he scanned the area, identifying enemy positions and potential traps.

"Sniper team?"

A soft crackle came from the communication device before a crisp voice responded.

"Ready, Your Highness."

"Good. Make sure all enemies on the towers are eliminated. Fire at my signal."

"As you command, Your Highness."

"Mm... Don’t let any of our units get close to the Hanarak Assassin Base before I give the order." Javier’s voice was firm and authoritative. "My knight will be the first to move and trigger any dark magic traps. I don’t want to risk any Armand personnel for this mission. Are we clear?"

"Yes, Your Highness."

Javier zoomed in on the base from the sky-eye view, watching the live feed from the mana satellite and surveillance drones displayed on the huge screen in the Armand Command Center. He was wearing the control headset, motion controllers strapped to his wrists, and mana-enhanced glasses, all synced to the golden knight on the battlefield.

"Leave no enemy alive." Javier’s face turned serious, his voice cold and unwavering. "These dirty assassins kill for money. They have no honor, no loyalty, and no mercy. We will show them none in return."

He looked back at the screen, watching the live feed from the head cams of the Armand sniper teams.

"Activate thermal detection. Sniper team one, two enemies on the first tower. Take them out."

A soft silent shot rang out as the first Armand sniper team fired. A mana bullet streaked through the night air, piercing both enemies in a single, precise shot. Their bodies crumpled silently.

"Sniper Team Two, take down the three enemies on the second tower. Team Three, eliminate the enemy patrol on the main gate and along the battlement."

More silent shots followed, each one finding its mark with deadly accuracy. The patrol on the gate collapsed before they could raise an alarm, and the guards along the battlement fell without a sound.

Javier’s eyes narrowed as he watched the feeds.

He tapped his mana talkie.

"Attack Helicopter Squadron, move in and give them hell."

"Right away, Your Highness."

Two attack mana helicopters flew toward the base with a low whirring sound, releasing several mana missiles that struck the main gate, exploding it into rubble and causing panic among the enemy. The helicopters then unleashed a barrage of attacks from mana gatling guns, sweeping across the entire enemy force on the ground floor and first floor, shredding anyone in sight as they moved.

"Second team, make sure no one tries to escape toward the forest."

"Affirmative, Your Highness." The second helicopter squadron flew around the perimeter, scanning with thermal vision and firing automated mana rifles at anyone attempting to flee. The forest became a killing zone, with escape routes cut off by precise, relentless fire.

The golden knight snapped his fingers, and hundreds of mithril puppet knights materialized around him, equipped with mana rifles. They moved forward in a disciplined formation, while several attack battle drones hovered above, firing gatling mana guns with automated targeting systems that locked onto enemy positions and fired relentlessly.

Inside the base.

Hanarak sat in the underground meeting room, his brow furrowed in confusion as distant sounds echoed from above. Explosions, screams, and an unfamiliar whirring noise filtered through the thick ceiling.

He turned to one of his units.

"Check upstairs. Find out what’s happening."

"Yes, Leader."

The unit opened the door and headed up the stairs. The moment he pushed open the floor door, a barrage of gunfire and explosions overwhelmed his senses. His body was riddled with mana bullets before he could even scream, collapsing back down the stairs.

Hanarak’s eyes widened as he heard the chaos intensify, the screams growing louder, and the strange whirring sound drawing closer.

"W... what is that?"

He reached for his dark aura dual blades, his escort and other units unsheathing their weapons, their faces tense with alarm.

Don’t tell me Armand sent Alf and his team already?

No... there’s no way they could have gotten past the forest. We laid dark magic traps, mimicry traps that devour anyone who passes by, and all the traps that could kill even the most skilled assassins. We are different from those weakling regular assassins.

So... what the hell is happening up there?
