Reborn As The Minor Villain In A Romance Fantasy Novel

Chapter 223: Impending Death

Chapter 223: Impending Death

Supreme Man blinked... once... twice... his surroundings slowly shifting into awareness.

He was not in the room he had appeared in during the first vision.

This place was darker... much darker.

The darkness bled into itself, it looked endless like he stood inside the void between dying stars.

There was no ground... no sky... no air.

Nothing but a suffocating emptiness stretching infinitely in every direction, the kind that made even his powerful heart beat faster in instinctive dread.

He looked around, unsure if he was dreaming or hallucinating, and then without warning, color bled into the world.

It smeared across the dark like watercolor, forming shapes, outlines, and then full clarity. What appeared in front of him made all the breath in his lungs freeze still.

Lucius stood there.

This Lucius was holding a corpse... his corpse by the neck, dangling limp and broken.

The head of the corpse was twisted at an unnatural angle and his face was disfigured beyond recognition.

His chest had been caved in repeatedly, each strike leaving imprints so deep that bone and flesh had become indistinguishable.

Supreme Man’s throat tightened. His corpse looked like it had been beaten long after death, like Lucius had vented every drop of irritation, annoyance, and hatred onto the lifeless body until nothing recognizable remained.

Above the corpse, they floated just above the surface of the lava, its glow turning Lucius’s face into something nightmarishly expressionless.

There was no anger... No joy... No satisfaction... No nothing. It was quite scary to see

Supreme Man wanted to scream, to run, to deny it, but he could not move.

And then, reality shattered around him like cracked glass...

The dark world fell apart.

...

What replaced it was heat.

A suffocating and overwhelming heat that wrapped his entire body in agony. His eyes snapped open and he felt the crushing realization hit him like a hammer: he was underwater.

Or rather.. Under lava and... he was burning from all sides.

The molten pressure squeezed around him, bubbling violently as he drifted deeper. His nerves screamed at him and instincts yelling warnings he already knew too well.

’It’s not hot enough to burn through my bones though.’ He forced himself to breathe though the air was gone and turned his head just in time to see a silhouette rising above him through the lava’s thick glow.

Lucius.

He moved through the molten river like it was mere water and then Lucius’s foot lifted.

The kick that followed hit Supreme Man in the stomach, sending him flying upward like a cannonball launched from a submerged pressure chamber.

He tore through the lava and burst out of the surface in a geyser of molten rock.

Back above, the P40 drone hovered helplessly, unable to peer through the lava due to its density and mineral thickness.

The viewers had no choice but to wait.

Then the surface erupted.

Supreme Man shot upward toward the drone like a missile, his body tumbling violently as he slammed into the space barrier around the P40.

He bounced off it with a dull thud, spinning in the air as he failed to orient himself.

The drone zoomed in, catching every disoriented rotation and every strained twitch of his limbs as he struggled to regain control.

[@AoiDeadpan: Lmao nah nah FINISH HIM LUCIOUSSS 🔥🔥]

Supreme Man panted raggedly as he stabilized himself by forming a mana platform beneath his feet.

His body dripped molten residue, and his skin glowed red from the heat. His bones felt brittle but he forced himself upright.

’I’m going to die.’ The thought came with an eerie calm.

Yet, even now, some stubborn pride clung to him. He refused to fall alone. ’If I die... I’ll try to bring Lucius down with me... even if it’s impossible.’

Lucius rose from the lava behind him, drifting upward with terrifying ease.

He looked untouched.

He simply floated with a hand extended, fingers open as if measuring Supreme Man’s worth one last time.

’Is he going to use space to attack me... or wood?’ Supreme Man wondered desperately. ’No, I doubt wood. This mana... this purple mana... I’ll use it to the fullest.’

But Lucius did not swing.

Instead, something else began to shift.

The surface of the lava below them darkened into a deeper red. It churned violently, the bubbles growing more aggressive, the temperature rising beyond anything he had felt before.

Then the lava boiled.

It boiled like a furious ocean under a storm, and from that boiling inferno emerged whips... whips forged of molten rock, glowing white-hot at their cores, each one lashing toward him with a murderous shriek.

’Fuck!’ Supreme Man launched himself upward in a desperate leap, intending to exit the danger zone.

He slammed into an invisible wall.

Lucius’s space barrier.

It didn’t just stop him... it pushed him back down with brutal force, sending him falling straight into the path of the first whip.

He twisted desperately, creating a mana platform at his side and launching off it to dodge. The molten whip cut through the air where he had been moments earlier, the heat alone blistering his skin.

The whip slammed into the mountainside behind him and carved a deep molten groove across the stone.

[@LoreFiend: DID LUCUS GET A NEW ELEMENT WHAT IS THAT]

[@Datapocrypha: bro that’s literally space manipulation controlling the lava 💀🙏]

|__ [@MilkCart: then how tf did the lava start boiling???]

|__ [@Datapocrypha: idk 😭]

|__ [@Fullofshit: That’s why you’re a dumbass]

More whips burst forth, each snaking toward him like heat-seeking missiles.

Supreme Man spun mid-air, using rapid-fire mana platforms as stepping stones, dodging by fragments of seconds.

His body twisted and contorted, purple mana coating his skin as a last-layer defense.

He shot toward Lucius with a final desperate burst of strength but Lucius simply looked at him.

Their eyes locked at twenty meters.

He looked unimpressed.

Right then, a molten whip erupted beneath Supreme Man and struck his right arm with terrifying force.

His mana shattered instantly and the pain that followed was beyond anything he had imagined. He smashed into the mountain wall with a bone-rattling crunch. His vision flashed white.

He looked down.

His arm... All the muscle... All the skin... was gone.

Only white bone remained, gleaming under the lava’s glow.

Supreme Man’s scream tore through the entire mountainside as the pain overwhelmed him.

[@ViviNox: HE LITERALLY WHIPPED THE SKIN OFF 💀💀💀]

[@GloomPuppy: LMAOOOOO WHAT IS THIS MONSTER]

[@BunniCrisis: nahhh Lucius is actually TERRIFYING]

[@JetBlackRain: bro got FILLETED ALIVE]

[@SunnySkull: goodbye arm 😭😭]

...

Lucius pressed his palms together slowly, his fingers aligning with deliberate calm that contrasted entirely with the chaos around him.

The moment his hands met, the lava beneath them roared as if awakened, expanding outward in a violent plume.

A towering eruption surged toward Supreme Man, molten waves stretching across the air like a hellish tsunami.

If a single whip of lava had been enough to strip the flesh from his arm, then this eruption would do far worse.

It was meant to erase him.

Supreme Man, who had been wailing uncontrollably from the agony of his exposed bone and burning nerves, forced himself into movement.

He pushed off a mana platform with his foot, then another, and another...rapidly scaling sideways along invisible footholds he created with shaky bursts of purple mana.

But the lava followed.

It didn’t just follow... it spread. It consumed the space he was running into, turning every direction into a dead end.

He looked at the ocean of molten death approaching him and clenched what remained of his jaw.

’The only way to escape...’ he thought, realizing how cornered he was, ’is to go down into the lava.’

A reckless decision... no, suicidal. But any direction except downward was guaranteed death. So Supreme Man redirected his leap, angled his body downward, and plunged into the boiling abyss.

Immediately the heat devoured him. This time it was far hotter, far more intense, licking at bone and melting nerves, but he forced purple mana to coat what was left of his body. It wasn’t perfect, but it delayed death by fractions of seconds.

He attempted to calm himself enough to think. ’He doesn’t have a lava affinity, so he can’t manipulat—’

His thought didn’t finish.

The lava behind him suddenly surged forward like a spear. Supreme Man’s instincts screamed and he kicked his legs, launching himself out of the path of the molten spike.

It stabbed exactly where his back had been a moment before, pulverizing rock as if nothing existed.

His eyes widened in terror.

Lucius was controlling the lava thoroughly...

Within seconds, Supreme Man realized something even worse, he was completely trapped inside the molten sea.

Lava spikes materialized around him from every direction, bursting through his failing mana barrier like wet paper.

One struck his other arm, instantly burning away every layer of flesh until only bone remained. Another spike caught his thigh, melting everything but skeletal remains. Another shredded his stomach. Another tore through his crotch.

He had been dismembered while still alive.

He was lifted upward shortly after, helpless like a limp puppet.

Lucius’s silhouette drifted through the boiling glow and when he reached him, he extended one hand and wrapped his fingers around Supreme Man’s throat.

Supreme Man could not speak.

He couldn’t even gasp.

His remaining eye that was melting looked into Lucius’s face.

Lucius was expressionless.

In that moment, Supreme Man realized something chilling.

The vision he had earlier... the one showing Lucius murdering him in the void had been merciful compared to this.

This was far worse.

It made him wonder, through the fading haze of consciousness:

’Does this mean the visions can be changed...? That the things I saw weren’t real? That the one with my sister... could have been altered too...?’

Lucius’s grip tightened slightly, enough to make the remaining vertebrae crackle. It was clear Supreme Man wouldn’t last more than a few seconds.

Then, unexpectedly, Ayela shot down through the air with a burst of wind from her legs.

She hovered next to Lucius.

"Lucius... uhm..." she started, trying not to look at the mangled corpse-like figure he was holding. "You have a call."

She lifted his phone toward his ear.

Lucius didn’t let go of Supreme Man, but his eyes shifted in mild annoyance.

Someone was speaking rapidly from the other side of the line... or rather shouting because the voice was loud enough that even Ayela flinched.

Lucius exhaled slowly.

His jaw clenched for half a second.

"...Fine," he muttered with visible irritation.

He released Supreme Man’s throat. The melted, skeletal remains slipped from his hand and he grabbed what was left of the man’s torso instead.

Then, without ceremony, Lucius threw Supreme Man’s body upward with a single swing of his arm.

The corpse-like remains soared into the air, vanishing above the drifting smoke.

And the drone captured every second of it.
