’And if he is... it’s most definitely working.’ Vanessa thought as she narrowed her eyes at the floating group ahead of them.
Lucius’s ridiculous theatrics, his loud noble laugh, his sudden shift into some dramatic fake persona... it all irritated her far more than she cared to admit, especially because it was working.
Her squad was getting riled up, and even she felt her blood rushing a little. She gritted her teeth and called out.
"Luna, let’s move faster!"
Luna had just crushed through another bird, the prehistoric thing bursting into scattered feathers and a falling corpse.
She took a deep breath and centered herself, feeling the new flood of energy spread across her limbs.
She drew upon Kinetica, that pulse in her chest thundering outward.
’Momentum Shift.’ she thought, and the instant the skill activated, the world bent around her.
All of them... Vanessa, Grimm, Matthias, Raven, Felix, Erika, and everyone else shot forward at extreme speed, the wind smearing across their faces as the distance between them and the obnoxious Supreme Guild began shrinking.

"Wait... what are we going to do about the cores?!" Grimm shouted over the wind, looking horrified.
The realization hit them like a slap. They had spent so much effort chasing Lucius’s fake noble guild that they had forgotten the literal loot they had come here for.
Up ahead, Becka urgently leaned toward Lucius. "My lord... they’re gaining on us. The gap is shrinking quickly. What should we do?"
Lucius let out an exaggerated sigh as Ayela raised a silver cup of juice to his mouth and fed him gracefully.
She even dabbed his lips with a folded napkin. He looked down at the troops below him as if this entire chase was a boring parade.
"There’s a current up ahead. We’ll let them get into it while we pull to the sides," he said calmly. "For now, use spells to delay them. Don’t worry... I’m powering everything as usual."
"Yes, my lord!!" the entire Supreme Guild chorused dramatically.
Three Awakeners peeled off instantly... Becka, Ayela, and another woman turning to face Vanessa’s squad as they hovered backward.
"Blind those commoners!!" Lucius commanded, his tone dripping with aristocratic disdain. The entire Supreme Guild erupted in synchronized noble laughter.
Ayela’s face twitched. ’We’re acting so cringe... how does Lucius even do this with a straight face? Does he secretly enjoy this? He must, right...?’
Despite the embarrassment, there was a strange thrill to it she would never admit aloud.
The Awakener in the center spread her palms outward. Purple fumes billowed from her skin, swirling thick into the sky like ink blooming in water.
Ayela instantly used her wind magic to disperse the fumes, spreading them outward into a massive poisonous cloud.
"She’s poisoning the air! Close your noses!!" Vanessa shouted. Everyone, including the Saintess covered their noses at once.
The purple poison flooded the atmosphere fast but then their eyes all snapped to Becka, who extended her tongue playfully at them.
’She wouldn’t dare...’ Vanessa thought with disbelief.
But Becka absolutely dared.
This toxic fog was violently reactive to fire. Once lit, it spread like burning oil. Becka snapped her fingers, and a sharp crackling sound tore through the sky. A wall of flame burst across the heavens like a burning curtain being pulled open.

Vanessa reacted instantly, spreading her blood outward to shield them... but a second later she realized it wasn’t needed. A smooth, invisible dome enveloped them.
Space curled around their bodies and flicked them out of the burning smog like tossed coins.
In the next moment, they were thrown into violent turbulence midair. The winds here were twisted... one motion pulling left, another pressure dragging right, and Kinetica fighting to keep them on trajectory.
The colliding forces made their bodies jolt sharply.
"Fuck!!" one of the Saintess’s members shouted. "Didn’t they cross here?!"
Everyone turned their eyes toward the edge of the next mountain and sure enough, the Supreme Guild was gliding effortlessly along the mountainside, avoiding every stream of chaotic wind.
They were laughing in perfect unison, their voices sounding loud and obnoxious. Lucius used space to amplify the sound so it reached Vanessa’s squad as if they were close.
Lucius lifted his chin and let out a smug, exaggerated laugh. "Commoners will always be dumb as ever!"

’We need to get out of here.’ Luna thought as she looked around, her head spinning from the insane turbulence.
Everyone had been suspended mid-air by the violent wind currents, their bodies jerking slightly in place like puppets on invisible strings.
She didn’t have her suit, so she couldn’t calculate the speed or direction of the currents... but that didn’t matter now.
’I don’t need calculations anymore... isn’t this what it means to have magic? To go beyond physics?’
Awakened defied everything she had studied... energy, mass, acceleration, they broke every rule.
Airplanes needed centuries of engineering to defy gravity, but a single Wind Affinity Awakener could casually float through the sky as if nature bent to their whims.
And now she was like them or rather, something even rarer.
’So in theory...’ Luna inhaled deeply and let mana explode outward from her body in a rippling shockwave. The wind around them screeched as it abruptly lost all force and the world went silent.
The others jerked as gravity returned to normal and they regained control of their floating spells.
’So this is Zero Momentum’s full power...’ she realized as she observed the shimmering dome around them... it was ten meters wide.
A sphere where all momentum simply stopped. Outside it, however, the chaotic wind still roared and twisted violently.
Luna swallowed, she could feel the barrier draining her rapidly. ’I can’t hold this for long... seconds, maybe.’
But seconds would be enough.
"Momentum Shift!" she shouted, and a burst of kinetic force surged outward, launching every Awakener straight sideways... blasting them out of the turbulent zone.
The moment they escaped, Luna dispelled the Zero-Shift barrier. Her body immediately dropped like a stone. "Ugh—"
Vanessa swooped in and caught her mid-fall. "Hey... hey! Luna, you okay?"
"Y-yes... just... too much mana..." Luna panted, sweat rolling down her forehead as they continued falling.
Her chest felt tight, but her eyes were bright with exhilaration. "I’ll... recover... just... need rest..."
"Then rest," Vanessa said, though her voice was very soft.
She adjusted her hold carefully, then raised her free hand. Blood erupted from her palm, splitting into several streams that curved behind each Awakener... taking the shape of massive wings. "Everyone, we’re flying out of here!"
The wings flexed, and all the Awakeners shot forward along the mountainside. Vanessa handed Luna to Trisha carefully, ensuring she was stable.

"Up ahead!" Vanessa screamed as the lava began erupting from below. Spouts of molten rock shot upward like geysers, each one roaring with enough force to pulverize stone.
The mountains were tall... how much pressure was below for the lava to shoot this high?
"WHOOO!!" Grimm shouted, barely dodging two geysers. "THIS SHIT IS CRAZY!"
Raven wasn’t as panicked. He pulled his wings inward and dove directly through a rising column of lava.
The molten rock splashed harmlessly around him, bouncing off a thin coating of superheated flame covering his body.
’My flame barrier’s holding... good.’ Raven thought as he spread his wings again and rejoined formation.
Vanessa rose higher, trying to keep eyes on the Supreme Guild far ahead. Her blood condensed in her hands... forming a bow.
She drew an arrow as her eyes narrowed.
"Check..."
She fired. The arrow sliced through the air, spinning, accelerating... and exploded right in the center of the Supreme Guild formation.
"Mate."

The shockwave from the attack burst outward, washing over Luna. The instant it touched her, her eyes snapped open as if she had never been exhausted in the first place.
"I’m fine." Luna said, rolling from Trisha’s arms and stabilizing herself mid-air. "I can absorb shockwaves for mana...?"
It was quite a discovery...
But as the smoke cleared...
Lucius and the Supreme Guild were completely unharmed.
Worse...
More of them appeared.
Clones... identical copies of every Supreme Guild member appeared in the air around them, forming a vast circle.
Each one held themselves with aristocratic arrogance. And all of them began laughing in perfect synchronization.
Even Lucius.
"Try to hit us if you wish," All the Lucius’s said, tilting his head mockingly. "But your commoner hands will never touch even a single hair on our heads."
They all laughed again.
