Chapter 1013: Sour Grapes
Chapter 1013: Chapter 1013: Sour Grapes
After arranging things at the shop, Xinyan rode her motorcycle back to the courtyard.
Just as the bike came to a stop at the gate, someone whispered, "She’s really restless, a young lady riding a motorcycle."
The person next to her tugged at the speaker’s sleeve, saying, "Keep your voice down, don’t let people hear."
But the woman didn’t hold back, and said rudely, "What are you afraid of? Look, how can any family indulge their young lady like this? Who knows where she got that motorcycle from?"
These words were overheard by Old Mrs. Tong, who was returning from a neighbor’s house. She directly retorted, "If you’re envious, just say it outright. Don’t say sour grapes when you can’t have them. Did Xinyan do anything to you?"
The woman didn’t expect her bad luck: "Aunt Tong, I’m talking about that little girl, it has nothing to do with you."
Old Mrs. Tong sternly said, "You’re of such an age, how can you say such things? We all live in the same alley. In a few years, your children will grow up too. How would you feel if others talked about them like that?"
The woman mumbled uncomfortably, "My kids will never be spoiled like her. Do you know how expensive that motorcycle she rides is?
It’s probably shocking to say it out loud. And besides, a girl riding a motorcycle, she doesn’t look good, who knows what she does behind the scenes."
Old Mrs. Tong was really angry now. She stepped forward and grabbed the woman’s wrist, intending to take her to her house: "I must ask your Qiu Family what Xinyan did to offend you, for you to slander her like this."
By this time, Xinyan, who had parked her motorcycle, came out. She had heard the entire conversation earlier between the two: "I also want to know why Aunt Qiu is saying this about me?"
Without waiting for the woman to react, Xinyan grabbed her arm and dragged her towards the Qiu Family’s place.
The Qiu Family lived at the other end of the alley. Xinyan was strong, and no matter how the woman struggled, it was useless.
Usually, if someone spoke sourly, Xinyan would act like she didn’t hear it, since it wasn’t worth her attention. Besides, most of the families in the alley were nice, and interactions were harmonious.
But today was different. The words were harsh, and she couldn’t hide behind Old Mrs. Tong, letting an elderly person stand up for her.
Of course, she also wanted to use this opportunity to warn those who talked too much.
When Xinyan dragged the woman into the Qiu Family’s yard, the Qiu Family members were startled, and finally, Mr. Qiu came out of the house, frowning and asked, "What’s going on here?"
The woman, seeing her family come out, seemed to gain confidence and wanted to break free from Xinyan’s grip: "Let go of me already."
But Xinyan’s grip was so strong, her struggle was in vain.
The woman felt a bit embarrassed and looked toward her father-in-law and husband: "Dad, Qiu Hai, ask this girl to let go of me."
Mr. Qiu asked again, "What exactly happened?"
Xinyan coldly looked at the woman still trying to shake her off: "Do you want to say it, or should I?"
The woman, full of resentment, said, "I was just gossiping for a bit. We all live in the same alley, is it necessary to make such a scene?"
Xinyan coldly replied, "A few days ago, I saw you hugging a stranger."
At these words, the woman, as if going mad, tried to lift her other hand to tear at Xinyan: "You little bitch, do you want to ruin me?"
Xinyan laughed coldly, "Isn’t it just gossip? Why do you care so much?"
One sentence left the woman speechless.
But the Qiu Family members, not knowing what was going on, all frowned.
Mr. Qiu, with a stern face, asked, "Han family’s girl, speak nicely, what are you trying to do?"
Now Old Mrs. Tong couldn’t hold back any longer and explained the whole situation: "This isn’t Xinyan’s fault. If it weren’t for your daughter-in-law gossiping and trying to ruin her reputation, this wouldn’t have happened."
Mr. Qiu, with a sharp look, turned to his daughter-in-law: "Is this true?"
The Qiu family’s daughter-in-law muttered, "I wasn’t wrong."
Although she spoke in a low voice, everyone in the yard heard it.
