Chapter 1168: You’ve Been Hiding It From Me
Chapter 1168: Chapter 1168: You’ve Been Hiding It From Me
Xinyan noticed the change in her grandmother’s expression. "Grandma, what’s wrong?"
Old Madam Gu’s hand was trembling so much she hadn’t even hung up the phone properly. She anxiously pointed outside, but couldn’t get a word out.
This gave Xinyan quite a scare. She hurriedly shouted toward where her grandfather and the others were standing: "Grandpa, come here, quick."
Mr. Gu was just talking with He Jinxuan. When he looked up and saw that something was wrong with his wife, he asked, "Shuqing, what’s going on with you?"
He took a few steps to reach his old wife’s side, helped her sit down first, then saw the call had already ended. "Who was on the phone just now?"
Old Madam Gu stared into Mr. Gu’s eyes. "You’ve been keeping this from me all along?"
Mr. Gu instantly understood what she meant and hurried to explain: "No, it’s not like that, it just isn’t confirmed yet. I wanted to wait until we had definite news to tell you. I didn’t want you to be disappointed again."
Old Madam Gu’s tears suddenly fell in streams. "But you clearly know how much I want news of our second son."
Mr. Gu sighed and rubbed his wife’s back to help her calm her breathing. "It’s my fault. I shouldn’t have kept it from you."
Now Xinyan also understood—there was news about her second uncle.
Seeing her grandmother’s expression ease a little, she couldn’t hold back and asked, almost blurting out, "Grandpa, there’s news about Second Uncle?"
Mr. Gu gave a slight nod. "We haven’t actually found him yet. That’s why I didn’t say anything—I was afraid that if the news turned out to be wrong, your grandma wouldn’t be able to take it."
Xinyan naturally understood how painstakingly her grandfather was trying to protect them. If you hand someone hope only to end it in disappointment, sometimes it’s better they never knew in the first place.
Old Madam Gu said excitedly, "They said the person bringing the photo is already on the way. He should arrive in the next few days."
Mr. Gu didn’t dare say anything discouraging now. "You know your own health. You absolutely mustn’t get worked up."
Old Madam Gu knew this very clearly in her heart, but she still couldn’t suppress her inner excitement. "I know, I know, I’ll take good care of my health and wait for our Yize to come home."
Xinyan figured her grandmother probably wouldn’t be able to calm down for a while. "Grandma, why don’t we postpone tonight’s dinner?"
Old Madam Gu shook her head. "That won’t do. Once we knew the date you were coming back, we already informed them about the dinner. How could we reschedule it because of me?
Besides, Aunt Li and the others finalized the ingredients this morning. They started preparing first thing. Don’t worry, after I settle down for a bit I’ll be fine. Having news is a good thing—I should be happy."
Xinyan felt a pang of hurt for her grandmother. She squatted in front of her. "Grandma, if you want to cry then just cry. You’ll feel better if you let it out."
Old Madam Gu reached out and pulled Xinyan into a hug. "Back when misfortune kept hitting our family one after another, your grandma already cried all her tears dry. That’s when I realized tears are the most useless thing."
She patted Xinyan on both shoulders. "Don’t worry, your grandma’s fine. I just need a little time to calm down."
Xinyan was still worried, so she helped her grandmother back to the bedroom. Only after she saw her fall asleep did she come out.
He Jinxuan knew Xinyan had something she wanted to say to Mr. Gu, so he took the little brother-in-law from the old man’s arms. "I’ll take Junjun out for a walk."
Xinyan gave the thoughtful He Jinxuan a small smile. "Don’t go too far."
The little guy Junjun hadn’t wanted to stay home in the first place. As soon as he heard he was going out, his little hand kept pointing outside, just short of saying "let’s go."
Unfortunately he couldn’t talk yet, so he could only go "ah, ah" toward the door.
Xinyan helped him put on his hat and pinched his chubby cheek. "You little heartless thing, all you ever think about is running wild outside."
Watching the two of them walk out, Xinyan finally asked, "Grandpa, is the information reliable?"
Mr. Gu let out a sigh. "We’ll only know for sure when we find him.
The person who brought the news only said that someone in Sichuan had seen your second uncle, and that they found an old photo from back then in another household. But as for where he actually is, they don’t know either."
Xinyan understood. It was still like looking for a needle in a haystack—only now the haystack had been narrowed down. But after all these years, whether her second uncle was still in Sichuan was a complete unknown.
Mr. Gu exhaled slowly. "It just so happens we were going to make a trip there anyway."
Only then did Xinyan remember that they had indeed discussed going to the Gu Family’s treasure site. "That place is in Sichuan?"
Mr. Gu gave a slight nod. "I only heard my grandfather and father mention it a few times. You can’t put all your eggs in one basket, after all."
