Chapter 1220: Hidden Mysteries
Chapter 1220: Chapter 1220: Hidden Mysteries
After they walked a hundred meters in, a fork appeared in the cave.
Xinyan looked at Mr. Gu: "Grandpa, which way should we go?"
Mr. Gu looked at the leather map in his hands for a while; the markings had already faded: "Let’s go left. We’ll have to rely on luck from here on."
They hadn’t gone far before the path ended, but it was obvious they could feel a flowing breeze.
The two lightly tapped on the stone walls on both sides but found nothing unusual. Xinyan always felt there should be a surprise hidden here; after all, although the breeze was faint, they could feel it.
However, after groping around for almost an hour, they still couldn’t find any mechanism to activate: "Grandpa, let’s try the other passage. There might be a surprise waiting for us."
Mr. Gu no longer insisted: "Alright."
The two retraced their steps back but didn’t immediately take the right passage. Instead, they went out to make two more torches from local materials before continuing their exploration.
The right passage was noticeably longer, and as they reached the end, the space opened up.
Xinyan immediately spotted the hidden mechanism in the stone wall. After all, her vision was exceptionally good now: "Grandpa, come quickly."
Hearing his granddaughter’s words, Mr. Gu hurried over: "What did you find?"
Xinyan pointed to a section of the rock wall: "Do you see how the color here is slightly different from the surrounding area?"
Mr. Gu looked at it for a long time but couldn’t see anything: "Grandpa really can’t see it."
Xinyan grew increasingly excited: "Grandpa, it’s like an eye exam; there’s a hidden secret here."
Seeing her focus intently on the spot, Mr. Gu took a flashlight from his bag: "Maybe it will be clearer with the flashlight."
But Xinyan couldn’t spare any attention as she continued to stare at the rock wall. After a long while, she finally took a deep breath and said excitedly: "Grandpa, it’s done."
Mr. Gu was puzzled: "What’s done?"
Xinyan’s face was filled with joy: "Grandpa, hurry up and search around to see if there’s a mechanism."
Although the area was spacious, the rock walls were complex, so they had to split up. Half an hour later, Mr. Gu shouted beside a standing boulder: "Yanyan, come quickly."
Xinyan hurried over: "Grandpa, what did you find?"
Mr. Gu pointed to the side of the stone: "Look behind it."
Xinyan leaned over to look and discovered that there was indeed something special behind the boulder; it had been carefully treated. Even with her keen senses, she didn’t notice the anomaly at first glance.
Thankfully, they found the oddity on the rock wall upon entry. She pressed the sequence of numbers she saw before, and a groove appeared where the numbers had been displayed.
After a careful inspection, she reached into her pocket to conceal it and took out the jade pendants given by Grandpa and Liang Dahai from the space. She tried the two pieces separately, but there was no reaction. Xinyan directly clasped the two jade pendants together and pushed them in again.
At this moment, a two-square-meter entrance slowly opened on the inside floor of the boulder.
The two exchanged glances, their hearts pounding with curiosity. What exactly was the treasure that so many had coveted?
The wait was excruciating, but for safety’s sake, they didn’t rush in.
Half an hour later, Mr. Gu scouted ahead.
Xinyan initially wanted to enter first, but Mr. Gu disagreed. After all, the place hadn’t been opened for a long time, and there were too many unknown dangers.
Only after entering and finding no danger did he call out from inside: "Come in."
However, upon entering, they found nothing like they imagined. Instead, it was another passageway.
The two of them walked straight ahead for about two hundred meters before they saw boxes neatly arranged there.
Xinyan immediately recognized that these boxes were similar to the ones she found behind Sanyuan Mechanical Factory, indirectly confirming that those items were indeed the Gu family’s ancestral treasures.
The number of boxes here wasn’t many, but there were indeed more than those behind the Mechanical Factory.
Taking prepared gloves out from her bag: "Grandpa, put on the gloves, better safe than sorry."
Mr. Gu didn’t take them, instead pointing to a nearby stone: "I’ll rest over there for a bit. Be careful."
Perhaps due to excitement, he felt slightly dizzy. He wanted to calm down before examining the items. After all, the Gu family had paid so much over the generations for these.
Xinyan, worried about her grandfather’s health, reached out to check his pulse. Confirming that his condition was only due to fatigue and nervousness, she felt relieved: "Then rest for a while first. I’ll go take a look."
She handed him the water bottle from her backpack: "Drink some water."
After settling her grandfather, she turned to walk towards the boxes.
