Chapter 1322: Chapter 1322: Act Fast, Keep It Quiet For Now
Xinyan calmly looked over everything one by one and found that the problem lay with the various kinds of meatballs that had already been prepared.
Still a bit uneasy, she rechecked the other semi-finished dishes, and only after confirming there was no issue with those did she finally breathe a sigh of relief.
She turned to look at He Jinxuan and whispered in his ear, "All these dozen kinds of meatballs have been dosed with a laxative, and it’s a strong one."
He Jinxuan’s face turned very ugly. "You’re sure the other dishes haven’t been affected, right?"
Xinyan nodded. "The other dishes are fine."
He Jinxuan glanced at Zhang Tianliang, the newly hired head of the kitchen, who was standing not far behind him. "Take all these meatballs out and seal them up, then make a new batch to replace them."
Manager Zhang was still a bit dazed. "Boss, these dishes were all freshly made just yesterday....."
But as soon as he said that, he reacted as well and looked over at those dozen basins packed full of all kinds of meatballs. "You want all these meatballs sealed up?"
He Jinxuan nodded. "Yes. Move fast, and don’t spread this around for now."
Manager Zhang could be a kitchen supervisor, so he naturally wasn’t stupid. He quickly called over a few helpers. "Take these meatballs to the back storeroom and put them on the shelves."
Still uneasy, he reminded them, "No sneaking bites."
The helpers didn’t ask why after hearing the order. They followed Manager Zhang’s instructions and carried everything to the small storeroom. Only one of them was a bit rebellious—tell him not to sneak a bite and he偏偏 wouldn’t listen.
He reached into the basin closest to him, grabbed a few meatballs, and tossed them into his mouth, still muttering, "Hmph, I’m eating them anyway."
Xinyan carefully checked the whole kitchen, then walked through each of the storerooms where ingredients were kept. Only after confirming there was no problem did she leave the back kitchen.
After they left, Manager Zhang’s brows were furrowed tight enough to pinch a mosquito to death. He had no idea which black-hearted bastard picked this critical moment to stir up trouble. Just preparing the dishes for lunch was busy enough; now he still had to spare people to redo the meatballs.
But the boss had spoken—what could he do? Luckily the boss’s wife had spotted the clues in advance; otherwise he wouldn’t be able to shoulder the consequences either.
He sighed inwardly, then pointed at a few people over there. "Come on, come on, you guys. Hand over what you’re doing to someone else. You come here, I’ve got a different job for you."
The kitchen had already been busy, and now everyone was even more run off their feet.
Because of He Jinxuan’s instructions, no one in the kitchen dared to let a word of what happened leak out.
Lian Haifeng, who was in charge of purchasing, was afraid someone would see through him, so he didn’t dare show his face all morning and just kept waiting for some commotion outside.
But he waited and waited, and nothing spread. He was starting to get restless.
He got up, left the office, and headed toward the back kitchen, only to be stopped by Manager Zhang, who was in charge of the kitchen. "Lian, the kitchen’s swamped right now. Don’t go in there and make it worse."
Lian Haifeng was a bit displeased, but he was also afraid of arousing suspicion. "I was just thinking that since it’s opening day and there are a lot of customers, I’d see if I could help out."
Manager Zhang had long been briefed by the boss. "This is a restricted area. Idle people are not allowed in. If something goes wrong, everyone involved will be held accountable."
Lian Haifeng hadn’t expected this new supervisor to give him no face at all, but he didn’t say anything more. "Fine, since there’s a new rule, I won’t go in."
Watching the man walk away, Manager Zhang felt a faint sense of doubt, but before he could think it through, he heard an assistant cook shouting from the kitchen, "We’re short on shrimp, send some more over."
He hurriedly took out the keys and called someone to go fetch it with him.
In the front hall, Xinyan and He Jinxuan had been greeting guests nonstop. After all, it was the restaurant’s opening day; they’d invited not only many relatives and friends, but also business partners from their respective companies.
The two of them spent the entire noon making small talk with people.
Her eldest uncle, Han Jingheng, and her uncle-in-law, Sun Baowei, happened to have a work banquet today, so they booked it here.
As for her father-in-law, Han Jingchen, he had long told his good partner, Yue Yiming, about his young lady and son-in-law opening a restaurant. With Yue Yiming’s love of gossip, the news had already spread far and wide.
Today, for every customer coming to Fuyuan Restaurant to show support who was an acquaintance, He Jinxuan told the servers to give each table two complimentary dishes and a fruit platter. Since all the vegetables, fruits, poultry, eggs, fish, and meat came from Chongyang Mountain Villa, there was no need to say anything about the quality; the reviews were overwhelmingly positive, which in turn gave them a big wave of word-of-mouth publicity.
With three days of opening discounts, Fuyuan Restaurant’s name was instantly made.
