Chapter 724: Reunion with Family
Chapter 724: Chapter 724: Reunion with Family
Mr. Zheng looked at his grandson, Guan Zhiyang, who resembled him somewhat and had a striking similarity, then at his granddaughter, Guan Zhiyue, whose eyes took after his wife, and his eyes reddened once again, "Zhiyang, Zhiyue, Grandpa is here to take you home."
Even though Guan Zhiyue and Guan Zhiyang had already met their Second Uncle, Guan Aizhong, upon hearing the old man’s words, they still found it a bit unreal.
They always thought their grandmother treated them worse than the Second Uncle’s children because they didn’t grow up by her side, never expecting that they were not blood-related to begin with.
Hearing the old man’s words, both were lost in their own thoughts and did not respond to him.
Mr. Zheng seeing his grandson and granddaughter remain silent, thought they were angry, "Zhiyue, Zhiyang, you’ve suffered, it’s Grandpa’s fault."
Guan Zhiyue snapped back to reality, seeing the old man’s face filled with guilt, and realized his misunderstanding, "Grandpa, don’t say that. Zhiyang and I heard from Second Uncle that you have been searching for my father all these years. It’s the workings of fate, not your fault."
The old man, hearing his granddaughter’s words, covered his face and choked, "Yes, fate has played its jokes. If only we had found you earlier."
Several leaders from the screw factory squeezed forward, "Zhiyue, Zhiyang."
Upon hearing someone enter the room, Mr. Zheng quickly wiped the tears from his face and looked at the newcomers.
After Guan Zhiyang greeted the factory leaders, "Grandpa, Second Uncle, these are the head of our screw factory and Secretary Zhang."
Zheng Huaizhong came forward to chat with them and briefly explained the situation.
The factory head asked, "Do their grandmother and Second Uncle know about this?"
Zheng Huaizhong nodded, "Yesterday I went to the railway bureau and met his Second Uncle, and have already told him about it."
The factory head nodded upon hearing this, "That’s good then."
He feared the Xiao family’s old lady might come causing trouble later, and he didn’t want to be embroiled in such a mess.
The fact that Guan Jingzhong took his mother’s surname was known in the factory, thinking it was because the Xiao family’s old man doted on his wife, not knowing he wasn’t the Xiao family’s biological child at all.
What he didn’t know was that Zhiyang’s Second Uncle, Xiao Weikang, was also not the Xiao family’s biological child.
After some communication, Guan Zhiyue was granted another half month off. Mr. Zheng was preparing to take them home to acknowledge their ancestors and return to their roots.
Just as they were leaving, Zhiyang’s Second Uncle, Xiao Weikang, arrived with his eldest son, Xiao Chengjun.
Though he didn’t say anything to stop them, between the lines he reminded them not to forget their grandmother, Guan Ru Hua, and to visit her often.
To put it plainly, Guan Ru Hua was wise; he understood that although he raised Guan Jingzhong, ultimately, the child was reared away, easy for others to find out upon investigation.
Moreover, back then, his brother-in-law and sister-in-law received quite a few benefits from others and had agreed those people would return to take the child. It was their family who fled from disaster, losing contact, causing the Zheng Family to be unable to find the child for so many years.
The reason for giving Guan Jingzhong his last name was out of fear he might share the Xiao surname and would fight over the Xiao family’s inheritance with his nephew.
Now, since the Zheng Family arrived, it was better to be sensible. Any further demands might risk old and new grudges being calculated together.
Anyway, it was life’s pressures, and indeed it was the Guan Family that breached trust, considering many in that village didn’t flee from disaster.
It was better to keep a good attitude, maybe even gain some advantage.
Xiao Weikang maintained a good attitude, "Zhiyue, Zhiyang, finding your blood relatives is a good thing. Second Uncle only just learned too, you can have a better life from now on, and I can rest at ease."
Guan Zhiyue and Guan Zhiyang didn’t hold much prejudice against this Second Uncle, since the two families rarely interacted.
Over the years, though Grandma and Second Uncle didn’t care for them, there was no mistreatment either. With nothing expected, there was no disappointment, their relationship was little different from that with strangers.
So, Second Uncle’s visit was merely a formality; whatever he said, the siblings wouldn’t mind.
Guan Zhiyue’s face was expressionless, "What Second Uncle said is true, and thank you for coming. Zhiyang and I will be fine, and we will visit Grandma when we have time."
With so many watching, customary words had to be said to prevent gossip—after all, they didn’t plan to rely on the Zheng Family, they still intended to return to the screw factory for their lives in the future.
