Chapter 771: Chapter 771: A Promise Cannot Be Retracted

Xinyan smiled and nodded at the elderly man who opened the door: "I heard from others that this house is for sale, so I wanted to come and take a look."

The elderly man also nodded at Xinyan: "Miss, I’m not selling this house in parts."

Xinyan nodded: "I heard."

The elderly man’s brows furrowed: "Miss, you didn’t understand, I’m not breaking up this house for sale. If you want to buy, you have to buy the whole compound, including the east and west courtyard together."

Xinyan nodded again: "I know that."

The elderly man couldn’t help but furrow his brows even tighter: "Buying this house is not a small sum."

After saying this, he kept staring at Xinyan’s expression.

Xinyan laughed directly: "Mr. Ling, may I ask your age and how to address you?"

The elderly man may have seen the confidence on Xinyan’s face: "I don’t dare claim such longevity, sixty-two. If you don’t mind, you can call me Grandpa Ling."

Xinyan said openly: "Grandpa Ling, I am indeed interested in buying a courtyard. Do you mind if I go in and take a look at the house?

Mr. Ling stepped aside and said in a mild tone: "Come in."

Xinyan raised her foot and walked in.

Upon entering the courtyard and seeing its layout, she decisively determined in her heart that she would have to buy this house.

The elderly man led her on a walk around the place.

Along the way, he only answered one or two questions when Xinyan asked.

When the two returned to the main courtyard, Mr. Ling led Xinyan into the living room and saw an elegant elderly woman sitting on the sofa.

Xinyan smiled gently: "Hello."

Mr. Ling took a few steps forward, supporting the elderly woman who stood up, and said warmly: "You can sit; this young lady is here to see the house."

Then he turned and looked at Xinyan: "This is my wife."

Upon hearing this address, it was clear that this family’s background was not simple.

Mr. Ling helped his wife sit back down and explained to Xinyan: "My wife is in poor health. She sustained a severe leg injury and cannot stand for long periods."

He then pointed to a chair nearby: "Please sit."

Having settled his wife, Mr. Ling then poured a cup of tea for Xinyan and pushed it in front of her: "You’ve seen the house. What do you think, Miss?"

Seeing that this young lady hadn’t left after the house tour, Mr. Ling had an idea of her interest.

He just didn’t know whether the price he was about to quote would scare her away.

Xinyan, feeling somewhat thirsty, picked up the tea cup, took a sip to moisten her throat, and then spoke: "Mr. Ling, is there any room for negotiation on the price of the house?"

The elderly man did not expect such a direct question and after a brief consideration, replied: "The price is indeed not low, but I believe you understand that it is worth every penny."

This courtyard, with its main building having five bays, and each of the east and west wings having three more, not to mention the layout of the east and west courtyards which, besides two fewer rooms in the main building, are the same as the main courtyard, it is exactly as Mr. Ling described, seemingly high in price but worth every cent.

Just as Xinyan was making her calculations in her head, Mr. Ling spoke: "If you really like this house, I could give you the furniture inside as well, all out of goodwill."

Upon hearing Mr. Ling’s words, Xinyan’s eyes instantly lit up: "Really?"

Mr. Ling felt the armrest of the chair under his hand with reluctance in his eyes, but they couldn’t take these things with them: "A promise is a promise."

Thinking about the market value of this furniture in the future, Xinyan was overjoyed, it was like a free gift.

Though not all the furniture in the rooms was intact, it was evident that this must have been returned later. Although she didn’t know much about the wood material, she had seen many such programs on TV in her previous life.

Seeing that Xinyan didn’t speak, Mr. Ling did not rush her.

He got up, went to a nearby cabinet, took a small blanket, and placed it on the old lady’s legs.

Inwardly, Xinyan felt a deep respect; Mr. Ling was indeed considerate.

When Mr. Ling sat back down at the table, Xinyan spoke up: "I’ll take this house. When can we handle the formalities?"

The elderly man was evidently surprised that Xinyan made her decision so quickly; "Are you sure?"

Xinyan nodded emphatically: "Yes, I’m sure."

What she didn’t say was that she had fallen in love with this house at first sight.

Upon hearing Xinyan’s words, the elderly man gave a sigh of relief, but then was filled with reluctance: "When this house was built, it was made with the best materials, you won’t regret it."

After exchanging glances with his wife sitting beside him, he looked at Xinyan: "We can handle the formalities anytime, it depends on your convenience."

Xinyan stood up, suppressing her excitement, and glanced at her watch: "Mr. Ling, I’m afraid I can’t do it today. I’ll prepare the money tomorrow and come over the day after tomorrow at the latest to settle the payment and formalities, is that all right with you?"

The elderly man knew that five thousand dollars wasn’t a sum easily taken out casually, especially not by a young lady, and he naturally understood.
