Chapter 872: Chapter 872: Actually, There’s Something I Need to Tell You
Because of Gu Wanqing’s pregnancy, the trip to East Province had to be cut short.
After they returned, Han Jingchen immediately informed the Han Family to come over for dinner on the weekend.
He didn’t leak the news of Gu Wanqing’s pregnancy in advance, intending to surprise everyone.
Originally, Gu Wanqing planned to wait three months before announcing it. First, she felt a bit awkward; second, she was afraid of hurting her daughter.
But Han Jingchen disagreed. He thought they shouldn’t keep it from Xinyan to avoid misunderstandings.
However, Han Jingchen didn’t tell Gu Wanqing his plan. He thought he should personally tell his daughter.
The next day, Xinyan had just gotten up when she heard a knock on the door.
She felt a bit puzzled about who would be knocking so early and called out towards the door, "Who is it?"
Han Jingchen’s magnetic voice came from outside the door, "Yanyan, it’s me, Dad."
Hearing it was her dad, Xinyan quickly put her toothbrush cup on the windowsill and ran to open the door, "Dad, you’re back?"
Glancing at the watch on her wrist, she added, "Why did you come so early?"
Han Jingchen raised the thermos he was holding, "Aunt Chen made some lean pork congee early this morning. I brought you some."
As he walked into the yard, he continued, "The temperature is just right now. Hurry and get ready to eat. It saves you from making breakfast."
Xinyan looked skeptically at Han Jingchen, who was walking ahead, "Dad, did you come over so early just to bring me lean pork congee?"
Han Jingchen pretended not to understand his daughter’s question, "And there’s also the vegetable buns Aunt Chen made. Didn’t you say they were delicious before? I took a little detour to bring you some."
Xinyan raised her hand to rub her forehead, "Dad, how far was this detour?
And so early, did Aunt Chen get up in the middle of the night to make the congee?"
Seeing that his daughter wasn’t moved by the early breakfast delivery and was instead suspicious, Han Jingchen felt a bit embarrassed, "Our Xinyan is clever. Well, there’s indeed something Dad wants to tell you."
Xinyan was a bit confused by her dad’s guilty look, "What is it?"
Han Jingchen pointed to the thermos on the stone table and the bag of vegetable buns, "Eat first."
Xinyan had just finished washing up and brought out a bowl and chopsticks from the kitchen, "Dad, you probably haven’t had breakfast either, right?"
With that, she placed a set of bowls and chopsticks in front of him, "Let’s eat together."
Han Jingchen didn’t stand on ceremony with his daughter. He opened the thermos, took the spoon Xinyan handed him, and scooped out two bowls of lean pork congee, "Try it, the temperature is just right."
Xinyan looked up at Han Jingchen, "What time did Aunt Chen start making the congee?"
Han Jingchen handed a vegetable bun to his daughter, "Aunt Chen is getting older. She wakes up around four in the morning every day. Because I was coming here, I told her in advance last night."
Xinyan took a sip of the congee, "So, what’s this about?"
Han Jingchen was worried that what he was about to say might affect his daughter, "Eat first, I’ll tell you after."
Seeing that he wasn’t speaking, Xinyan didn’t press further, "When did you and Mom return?"
Han Jingchen took a vegetable bun for himself, "We got back yesterday afternoon."
Xinyan looked over, "How was it? Was it fruitful?"
Han Jingchen replied seriously, "I did find out some things, but not much that’s useful."
Xinyan understood. After all, it’s been so many years, it wouldn’t be easy to discover new information.
