Chapter 928: Chapter 928: Then I’ll Be Waiting
He Jinxuan dropped Xinyan off at the dormitory building and handed her some items. "Yanyan, I’m driving to Jiangsu and Zhejiang tomorrow. Is there anything you want me to bring back for you?"
Xinyan, hearing he was heading to Jiangsu and Zhejiang, smiled and said, "Nothing specific comes to mind. If it’s convenient, see if there’s any fruit not available here and bring some back."
He Jinxuan’s eyes were full of affection. "That’s all you want?"
Before she could say more, He Jinxuan chuckled, "If time allows, I’ll see if I can bring back some silk goods for you. Jinhua’s ham is quite famous too."
Xinyan looked up and gave He Jinxuan a playful smile. "I’ll be waiting then. Drive safely."
Then she leaned in and said, "When you return to the cottage, there’s some chili sauce I made before in the kitchen cabinet. Take a few jars to eat on the road."
He Jinxuan’s smile deepened. "Alright, my Yanyan is still the best to me."
Indeed, he wasn’t used to the food in Jiangsu and Zhejiang, but with Yanyan’s chili sauce, the journey would be delicious.
Watching Xinyan enter the dormitory building, he reluctantly turned and left.
He walked a bit and then instinctively looked to the left.
He saw Xue Hongjuan hurriedly turning to leave and squinted, whispering to himself, "Xue Family."
He kept this in mind and quickly walked out.
After Xinyan went upstairs, she found the door half open and peeked inside.
She was immediately caught by Cui Haili, who was looking out. "Ah, Xinyan, come in."
They hadn’t seen each other all vacation, and the longing was mutual.
The two laughed and greeted each other warmly.
They were chatting when they heard someone else come in.
Xinyan was about to turn around when she heard Su Yuelan saying, "Oh, I’m exhausted. You two came so early."
Cui Haili laughed and replied, "I came from far away, so I returned yesterday."
Su Yuelan dropped her things on the floor. "Xinyan is the lucky one, living right here."
Suddenly, she thought of something. "What did you all do during the break?"
Cui Haili tidied up her cabinet. "What else? Stayed home with the kids. I originally thought I wouldn’t need a bunk this semester and would stay at the rented place, but my husband took a job back home, and it’s unlikely he’ll come over soon, so the kids stayed in the hometown. I figured it might be better to stay at the school."
She was worried about living alone as a woman without a man around. Her rental was just a room in a crowded courtyard with various tenants.
Xinyan agreed with her. "Staying at the school saves you from running around."
Xinyan knew the place Cui Haili rented was a bit away from school, and being a big courtyard, it was not ideal for a woman to stay alone long-term.
Su Yuelan rested a bit and recovered. "Are you still renting your place? Won’t you be paying rent for nothing if you’re not staying?"
Cui Haili was indeed worried about this. "I’m worried too. My husband said his job would take at least four to five months to complete, so I doubt he’ll come over this semester.
But if I stop renting, what about my pots, pans, cabinets, and bed?"
Cui Haili was truly a good person, always helping others. Xinyan wanted to return the favor. "Sister Cui, if you’re sure about ending the rental, I can help you find a place to store your things."
Cui Haili clearly didn’t expect Xinyan to offer that and felt a bit embarrassed. "Wouldn’t it be inconvenient? I don’t want to trouble you."
Xinyan didn’t stop tidying up. "It’s no trouble at all. Once you’re decided, I’ll find someone to help you move your things, and they’ll store them properly for you."
Cui Haili repeatedly confirmed it wouldn’t be a bother before expressing a lot of gratitude. "I’ll go talk to the landlord about canceling the lease this afternoon."
Just as they settled the matter, Jiang Peiqin came in carrying lots of bags. "Xinyan, come help me with this."
Xinyan moved forward as Jiang Peiqin spoke. "Why did you bring so many things?"
Jiang Peiqin glanced at Xin Yan. "You have the nerve to ask. Who said they wanted to visit my home but never did? My grandpa insisted on me bringing all this stuff."
