Chapter 2026: Chapter 2020: Running Into an Acquaintance

"Yu Chen, let’s play together. We’ll wait for Dad to get back before we go out. Mom is a woman; she has to carry the groceries and look after you. It’s too hard for her, she can’t take you." Yu Ze looked at his younger brother, wondering why he was so eager to go out.

"Alright then, I’ll wait for Dad to come back before going out." Yu Chen responded reluctantly after his brother spoke.

"Don’t be upset. When Dad comes back, we’ll eat, and then we can all go out to play, okay?" Qin Xue crouched down to look at her youngest son, feeling a sense of guilt towards the children.

She was busy with her business and work, leaving them to be cared for by Xue Ling. She, as their mom, seldom spent time with them. It seemed she needed to change this situation.

Qin Xue patted her youngest son’s head, making a decision in her heart to be there for her children as they grew up.

"Okay, Mom, you go ahead. I want to eat cake." Yu Chen looked steadily at Qin Xue, nodding in agreement.

"Okay, Mom will buy ingredients to make you steamed cake." Qin Xue thought about buying some red dates or something; making steamed cake was a nice idea.

"Okay, thank you, Mom." The children’s eyes twinkled with smiles as they heard this.

"Mm, no need to thank me. Be good at home. Mom is going out, don’t go out the door, and don’t go with strangers, understand? Cohen, watch over your younger brothers, and if anything happens, call Xue Ling, okay?" Qin Xue instructed her eldest son.

"Got it, Mom, be careful, and stay safe." Cohen nodded. Having experienced being abducted by human traffickers, he would definitely not let them or his younger brothers be taken. He was determined to protect them.

"Mm, such good boys." Qin Xue patted the heads of her three sons one by one and left.

Qin Xue thought about the things she needed to buy, heading purposefully to the market without wasting any time.

"Qin Xue, it’s you, what a coincidence." Liu Fen never expected to run into Qin Xue during a trip to the market; such a fateful meeting was quite special.

"Madam, are you here to buy groceries too?" Qin Xue heard someone call her and turned around to see Liu Fen. In truth, Qin Xue didn’t want to get too close to The Qins, thinking of some things she didn’t want to disturb the current peace.

"Yes, I didn’t expect to see you here either." Liu Fen looked at Qin Xue gently, increasingly seeing the resemblance.

"I didn’t expect it either." Qin Xue replied lightly, not desiring such a coincidence.

"Qin Xue, since it’s just the two of us today, could I ask you a question?" Liu Fen decided to voice her inquiry.

"What question?" Qin Xue realized she couldn’t refuse even if she wanted to.

"Is your father named Nangong Shulan?" Liu Fen had been contemplating this question recently.

"Yes." Qin Xue looked at Liu Fen, thinking that even if she denied it, Liu Fen could still find out by investigating.

"It really is. How has she been all these years?" Liu Fen asked Qin Xue, now sure of her thoughts.

"Very well. My dad loves her dearly. She’s living a very happy life." Talking about her parents softened Qin Xue’s expression, and the sparkle in her eyes told Liu Fen she wasn’t lying. It seemed her brother-in-law had truly missed out all these years.

"That’s good to hear. You look very much like your mother." Liu Fen admired Qin Xue’s beautiful features, recognizing the beauty there.

"Thank you for the compliment, madam. You are also very beautiful and elegant, something many people lack. You are truly a beauty yourself." Qin Xue wasn’t wrong either, as Liu Fen had a classic literary beauty. She wondered what Liu Fen did for a living, considering such a scholarly aura only comes from being immersed in books all day. Could she be a teacher?

"Haha, you’re just teasing me. I’m not much of a beauty, just old and can’t compare to you young people." Liu Fen touched her face, realizing that while time hadn’t marked her face much, there were still crow’s feet at the corners of her eyes. She was getting old.
