Chapter 2085: Chapter 2079: Admitting Defeat

"Deputy Director, what do you mean by that?" Gong Wuyou didn’t understand what Chu Molin wanted to express, but he also wanted to know what he meant to say.

"I don’t mean anything specific, you’ll understand in the future. For now, just focus on recovering. I chose you three from the moment I joined the academy. The other two have advanced; you can’t back down before even starting. Do you hear me?" Chu Molin thought of how well Lei Xiao and Fu Shuai had performed during training, which was why Qin Xue made the jerky especially for them this time.

"Yes, I’m sorry. If it weren’t for my ignorance, things wouldn’t be like this now." Gong Wuyou couldn’t help but apologize.

"You just wanted to do better. After learning from this lesson, you won’t make the same mistake again. Although it doesn’t sound pleasant, you need to know that impulsiveness isn’t always the key to doing better. You need to consider all the conditions and physical factors. I shouldn’t have let you report so quickly in the first place; you could have had more time to rest." Chu Molin felt the fault lay with him.

If he hadn’t been in such a hurry, he wouldn’t have rushed them to the research institute. But even if he wasn’t anxious, others would have been, so in the end, it was hard to pinpoint whose fault it was.

"I should have listened to you when you told me not to go. I shouldn’t have secretly trained on my own. I won’t do it again in the future." Gong Wuyou felt uncomfortable himself but knew he shouldn’t cause trouble for others.

So, many times, we cannot live only for ourselves. We must also consider those around us.

"Alright, let’s not dwell on whose fault it is. We all made mistakes, and we need to correct them and do better in the future. Take the medicine and go back to rest. You don’t need to worry about work at the institute; I’ll help you apply for leave and take care of everything." Chu Molin patted his shoulder.

"Okay, thank you, Chu Molin." At this moment, Gong Wuyou didn’t want to use the distant title of Deputy Director.

"It’s nothing, it’s what I should do. Remember to get good bed rest when you go back, don’t push yourself anymore, alright?" Chu Molin gave another reminder, his words loaded with advice.

"Yes, I’m off then." Gong Wuyou nodded, took the medicine, and left.

"Truly a handful, but fortunately you’re here. Otherwise, if mom found out, she’d be very upset." Chu Molin looked up at the sky and said silently.

After locking the door, Chu Molin returned to the room, gazed at his sleeping wife, gently stroked the dark circles under her eyes, sighed, and then sat at the table to pick up a book.

"Chu Molin, don’t go." Qin Xue shouted suddenly.

"Xue’er, what’s wrong?" Chu Molin was startled by the shout and turned to see Qin Xue’s terrified expression.

"Chu Molin, don’t go, don’t." Qin Xue was still asleep, but she kept calling Chu Molin’s name.

"I’m not leaving, did you have a nightmare?" Chu Molin held Qin Xue’s hand with one hand and used the other to wipe the sweat from her forehead.

Thinking for a moment, Chu Molin lay beside her on the bed, gently patting his wife’s back to comfort her.

In her sleep, Qin Xue sensed the familiar presence, moved closer towards it, and only when she felt assured did her tightly furrowed brow gradually relax, her breathing becoming long and even.

Feeling his wife’s calm after no longer moving, Chu Molin wanted to get up but chose to stay lying quietly, closing his eyes to rest. Yet in his heart, he pondered whether his wife had encountered something troubling, causing her to be so restless even in her sleep.
