Reborn Lady

Chapter 132

Chapter 132

Meanwhile, Wei Luo led Xiao Heng out of the other courtyard and spotted the four girls in the distance, preparing to set off.

“Mother!” Xiao Heng recognized his mother’s figure and pointed her out to his father.

Wei Luo asked, “Would you like to watch your mother ride a horse?”

Xiao Heng nodded enthusiastically.

Wei Luo selected a grassy area that provided a convenient view.

The four horses had already taken off, and the wind billowed the riders’ skirts as they raced across the grassland. The two figures in light yellow and lotus green quickly surged ahead of the others.

In the distance on the grassland, King Yan returned with his entourage of horses. Upon observing the competition, he made a hand gesture to halt his horse and watched with a smile.

Feng Teng asked, “Who is leading the race?”

He was quite a distance away, and the riders’ faces shook with the galloping horses, making it difficult to see clearly.

Feng Su hushed him, saying, “Quiet.”

King Yan chuckled and explained, “The one on the black horse is my daughter, and the one on the white horse is my third daughter-in-law. Take a guess who will win.” In King Yan’s eyes, having skilled female family members who were good at riding horses was an advantage, and he was pleased to see them succeed.

Feng Teng took a closer look and remarked, “The third girl’s horse seems faster.”

King Yan turned to Feng Su and the other three commanders, inquiring, “What do you all think?”

Feng Su responded, “Indeed, the third girl’s horse is faster, but she struggled to keep pace, making her slightly inferior.”

Gao Zhen nodded, concurring, “Brother Feng is right.”

Yang Jingzhong added, “Certainly, in this race, the two of them are evenly matched.” With a three-mile distance to cover, Wei Ying surged ahead and passed the position of the young eunuch. However, just as she was preparing to turn around, she heard a sound from behind. Wei Ying glanced back and saw Yin Hui, who had reined in her horse directly beside the young eunuch without slowing down and, without going a single step further, she promptly turned around and headed back in the opposite direction to start the return race.

“Amazing!” Feng Teng cheered enthusiastically. “The third lady executed that turnaround beautifully!”

King Yan stroked his beard, his gaze focused on his daughter.

Wei Ying acknowledged her opponent, adjusted her position, and flicked her horsewhip, quickly chasing after Yin Hui.

Ji Xianxian and Wei Shan had already given up the race and were leisurely running and playing. Seeing that everyone was returning, they came to a halt and watched the competition as spectators.

“Third sister-in-law, you’re quite the equestrian; I underestimated you,” Wei Ying admitted, panting, when she fell half a horse’s length behind Yin Hui.

Yin Hui glanced at her and asked with a smile, “Sister, is that an admission of defeat?”

Wei Ying responded with a whip and swiftly closed the gap between them.

During the race, Yin Hui noticed Wei Luo and Xiao Heng watching from a distance. The sun’s rays cast a soft glow upon the father and son, rendering their faces indistinct.

Yin Hui suddenly felt a surge of determination. She wanted Xiao Heng to witness his mother’s skills and for Wei Luo to realize that despite lacking royal blood, she was no less capable than the princes.

With only a few feet to go before the finish line, Yin Hui abruptly released the reins, lifted her feet from the stirrups, and leaped off the horse’s back like a graceful swallow, landing firmly on the horse’s back.

To onlookers, the transition occurred in the blink of an eye. The wind swept her green sleeves and skirt into the air, and beneath the vast blue sky, she stood on a white horse, arms outstretched, resembling a green luan soaring gracefully through the sky.

Xiao Heng’s eyes widened, captivated by the spectacle.

Wei Luo frowned. It wasn’t until Feixue crossed the finish line and she sat down that his racing heart returned to normal.

“Mother!” Xiao Heng excitedly ran towards his mother, eager to ride a horse too.

Yin Hui exchanged a greeting with Wei Ying, who had been willing to take the challenge, and then guided her horse over to the father and son.

When getting off the horse, Yin Hui’s legs trembled slightly because of the stimulation.

At that moment, she clearly saw her son’s smiling face and also noticed the coldness in Wei Luo’s eyes. Confused, Yin Hui wondered if Wei Luo was unhappy about her showing off.

“Don’t ever do that again,” Wei Luo scolded in a hushed voice as he stopped Yin Hui.

Yin Hui responded with an “Oh,” lowered her gaze, and gently placed her hand on Xiao Heng’s head, giving it a light pat.

Wei Luo couldn’t discern genuine contrition in Yin Hui’s response. So he turned to their son and continued, “You’re not afraid of falling, but what if Xiao Heng lost his mother?”

Yin Hui’s hand came to a halt.

So, Wei Luo wasn’t upset because of the showing off; it was the potential danger of the action that worried him. Perhaps he was concerned about Yin Hui getting hurt.

Yin Hui looked up, meeting the familiar cold gaze, now intensified by anger.

Yin Hui tried to smile. “I’ve practiced this many times; you don’t need to worry.”

Wei Luo asked, “Have you practiced it in the past three years?”

The only time Yin Hui had ridden a horse was when she was with Wei Luo, but she had given up halfway because she ran into her cousin and others.

It was a bit risky indeed. However, she cherished the fleeting moment when she successfully stood on the horse’s back. It felt as though the shadows and unhappiness from both her lifetimes were swept away by the wind.

“I understand,” Yin Hui chuckled in a brighter mood and gently shook his sleeve. “Don’t be angry; I’m sorry.”

Wei Luo brushed her hand away, his expression unchanging.

“Ride a horse!” Xiao Heng began to urge.

Yin Hui was comfortable taking the risk by herself, but she didn’t dare to have the little one join her. She smiled and placed Xiao Heng into Wei Luo’s arms, saying, “Ask your father to ride with you. Father is the best. Father will never take risks with anything.”

Wei Luo’s gaze immediately turned stern once more.

Yin Hui stepped in to assist them in leading the horse. Feixue was quite gentle and didn’t mind having others ride on it, and Wei Luo was no stranger to riding it.

The most crucial part was soothing his son. Wei Luo mounted the horse first, and then signaled for Yin Hui to lift Xiao Heng up to him. With one hand holding the reins and the other securely wrapped around Xiao Heng, Wei Luo guided the horse at a gentle pace.

Xiao Heng pointed ahead and exclaimed, “Father, go faster!”

Wei Luo continued to move steadily on the horse, ensuring their ride was safe and secure.
