Chapter 2802: Shenxie Research Centre
Chapter 2802: Chapter 2802: Shenxie Research Centre
“You can pay right here at the counter.” The receptionist stated.
Yu Qi initially reached into her bag for her credit card. However, after giving it a quick second thought, she realised that a card transaction would leave a digital paper trail, potentially exposing her visit to the Shenxie Research Centre later on. She quickly changed her mind and pulled out cash instead to settle the bill.
The receptionist took the money, processed the registration, and handed over four colour-coded wristbands to Yu Qi.
“Please make sure everyone wears these bracelets at all times during your stay inside the Shenxie Research Centre. Try not to lose them, but if someone accidentally drops one, please inform your tour guide immediately. Also, one more important reminder. Please keep a close eye on your children throughout the visit. We certainly would not want them wandering off into any restricted research zones.” The receptionist cautioned warmly.
“Thank you very much. I will definitely keep a close eye on them.” Yu Qi replied with a grateful smile.
She took the four wristbands and discreetly ran a quick medical and spatial scan over them. Finding nothing suspicious or embedded within the material, she handed one over to Long Hui, secured the next two onto Xiaohua and Xiaoliu’s wrists, and finally fastened the last remaining bracelet around her own.
They were required to wait in the main lobby for their assigned guide to arrive and escort them inside.
Yu Qi glanced around the spacious lobby, taking in the surroundings. Several other visitors were already waiting for the tour to begin, mostly two families with young children and a group of university-aged youth who were likely students. As Yu Qi and Long Hui stood quietly near the side, they could not help but overhear a sharp argument breaking out among the student group.
“How long do we actually need to wait?” One of the girls asked in an irritated tone, crossing her arms.
“Suyi… let’s just wait a few more minutes.” One of the boys urged softly.
“If you don’t want to wait, you are free to leave. No one is holding you back.” Another girl chimed in with a sneer.
The first girl, Suyi, immediately turned and glared at her.
“I know why you want me to leave, so you can be alone with my boyfriend!” The first girl accused.
The second girl snorted in disdain. “Only someone like you would treasure a man like that. Even if you offered him to me for free, I would never accept him.”
“You!…” Suyi opened her mouth to snap back, but a taller young man, who appeared to be the leader of their group, sharply cut her off before the scene could escalate any further.
“That’s enough! Do you really have to start a fight over something like this in public?” The man scolded sternly.
Both girls immediately went silent, though they continued to glare daggers at each other.
“We are here on a mission.” The leader reminded them in a low, firm voice. “We need to gather accurate information on the ongoing experiments here and write a full report. Once we complete it, we get the prize.”
“Humph… The prize is probably just cash anyway. Do you really think someone like me cares about a little pocket money?” Suyi muttered, rolling her eyes disdainfully.
“Say one more word, and I will personally ask you to leave the group.” The leader warned coldly.
That immediately shut her up, and she bit her lip without uttering another word.
Right at that moment, their tour guide finally arrived. He was a man appearing to be in his early thirties, possessing an easygoing demeanour and a warm, approachable smile as he walked toward the gathered group.
“Welcome to the Shenxie Research Centre! I am Deng Chen, and I will be your official guide for today.” The guide announced cheerfully. He paused to look at everyone before continuing, “Alright, before we begin our tour, I need to lay down a few ground rules that everyone must strictly follow. First, always follow my instructions. When I say it is time to move on, please move along with the group. Second, do not wander off on your own. Rest assured, we will give you ample time to view each area properly. Third, feel free to ask me any questions during the walk. If I am permitted to answer them, I will do so right away. If it involves restricted details, you can scan the feedback barcode at the end of the tour and submit your questions directly to our team. Fourth, photography and video recording are allowed, but please do not ask our researchers or laboratory staff to pose for photos with you.”
“Hmm… those are all the essential rules for today.” Deng Chen added, his warm smile taking on a subtle, firm edge. “Failure to follow them will result in you being escorted off the premises immediately, and you will be permanently blacklisted from visiting again. Does everyone understand?”
“Yes.” The crowd chorused in unison.
“Wonderful! Then let’s begin our tour of the Shenxie Research Centre.” Deng Chen declared pleasantly.
Yu Qi and the others fell into step behind him. Deng Chen walked up to a secure door, tapped his keycard against the electronic reader, and the heavy doors slid open.
He led them down a wide corridor and introduced the first observation room. It was a state-of-the-art experimental lab enclosed by a massive floor-to-ceiling glass panel, allowing the visitors to observe everything happening inside. Several researchers in white coats were bustling about, meticulously conducting tests and discussing the live data displayed on their monitors.
Yu Qi narrowed her eyes as she focused on the specific subject of their experiment.
