Chapter 2814: Chapter 2814: Check The Soul Curse On Professor Shen’s Body

Back in the administrative office, Professor Shen informed his assistant that he was retiring to his private quarters. The assistant nodded, stepping aside as Professor Shen walked down the secluded corridor toward his office.

Yu Qi and Long Hui, who had been shadowing him all along, followed closely behind his footsteps. They trailed him to a heavily fortified, private office situated deep near the main laboratory sector.

Once inside, Professor Shen carefully engaged the electronic door locks. Believing he was finally alone, he unlocked a hidden security box beneath his massive mahogany desk and retrieved a specialised satellite phone. He quickly dialled a series of encrypted numbers, pacing back and forth across the plush carpet as he waited anxiously for the connection to go through. His face was unnaturally pale, slicked with a fine layer of cold sweat.

“Damn it… Pick up, Master Liang.” Professor Shen muttered under his breath, anxiously biting his thumbnail. “Where the hell are you?”

Before the line could complete its connection, Professor Shen’s sharp ears caught a faint rustle in the room.

“Who is there?!” Professor Shen froze in place, spinning around sharply to face the entrance.

He stared at the heavy door, but it remained firmly sealed. Instead, a subtle spatial distortion rippled through the air right in the centre of his office. In the very next second, two striking figures materialised out of thin air. A tall, imposing man wearing a black panther mask radiated a terrifying pressure, while a young woman wearing a white rabbit mask observed him with an icy, calm intensity.

“You would not be reaching Master Liang today, Professor Shen.” Yu Qi said, her smooth voice carrying an undeniable, suffocating edge of authority.

Professor Shen gasped, stumbling backwards until his spine slammed into the edge of his desk. His eyes widened in absolute horror as he stared at the masked pair. Panicking, he reached behind his back, feeling for the hidden emergency alarm button under his table, pressing it frantically multiple times.

“Professor Shen, save your energy. That button would not be calling anyone to your rescue.” Yu Qi said casually, watching his desperate movements.

Professor Shen’s heart sank into his stomach. Knowing that these mysterious intruders were fully aware of his hidden emergency trigger terrified him even further. He opened his mouth to scream at the top of his lungs for security, but before a single sound could escape his throat, Long Hui casually flicked his wrist.

An invisible, impenetrable barrier of spiritual energy instantly expanded and isolated the entire room. Any sound made within the space was completely absorbed, preventing even a fraction of noise from leaking out into the corridor.

“Don’t bother.” Long Hui said coldly, his immense aura pressing down on the room like a heavy mountain. “No one outside can hear a single word you utter.”

Professor Shen felt an overwhelming, crushing weight settle upon his chest, making it nearly impossible to draw in air. As an ordinary mortal who had only peripherally researched cultivation phenomena, the raw, oppressive force emanating from Long Hui caused his knees to buckle violently. He collapsed weakly into his executive chair, clutching his chest in agony.

He instantly realised who they were. These two were the formidable opponents who had been actively thwarting Master Liang’s plans!

“Brother Hui, check his body for a soul curse first. I don’t want our only solid lead dying on us before we get answers.” Yu Qi whispered softly to Long Hui.

Long Hui nodded solemnly and stepped toward the desk.

Seeing the imposing man stride closer, Professor Shen’s eyes filled with pure terror.

“No! Stay back! Don’t come near me!” Professor Shen pleaded, shrinking into his seat.

Yu Qi watched the spectacle with cold indifference. This man was responsible for running horrific human experiments without a shred of remorse. Countless innocent victims must have begged him for mercy in this very facility, yet he had heartlessly ignored their cries to pursue his dark research. He had likely never imagined that the tables would turn so drastically on him one day.

Long Hui reached out and placed his palm directly onto Professor Shen’s forehead. Professor Shen tried desperately to thrash and pull away, but his body was completely immobilised by Long Hui’s spiritual pressure. Long Hui channelled a refined strand of spiritual energy into Professor Shen’s meridian network, carefully probing for dark seals. Sure enough, he discovered two active soul curses planted within his body. One resided in his sea of consciousness, and another bound directly to his tongue.

With precise control, Long Hui cast a temporary isolation lock around both soul curses. Should Professor Shen speak of restricted secrets that Master Liang had forbidden, the curses would be suppressed from detonating. Though Long Hui could have easily dispelled the curses entirely, he deliberately left them intact under his lock for now.

Releasing his grip, Long Hui withdrew his hand and glanced down at his palm. Yu Qi let out a soft chuckle, pulled out a damp, scented wet wipe, and gently wiped Long Hui’s fingers clean.

“Good?” Yu Qi asked with a slight smile.

“Mhm,” Long Hui nodded.

“Who… who on earth are you people?” Professor Shen stammered out, his previously arrogant demeanour completely shattered into pieces. “How did you bypass security?! What did you do to our central asset in the sealed chamber?!”

Yu Qi stepped forward, resting one hand lightly on her hip as she looked down at the trembling scientist with a cool, calculating gaze.

“We are the ones asking the questions here.” Yu Qi stated smoothly. “Let’s start with Project Origin. What exactly were you doing to that ancient tree? And what is hidden behind that second steel door?”
