Chapter 1947: The Final Preparation

Chapter 1947: The Final Preparation

There was also the fact that Number 4 had entered the royal guard two months earlier, which meant the attack had been prepared long before Ning arrived. And if the same organization was now speaking about the following day as though everything had been building toward it, then the summit might have been part of their plan from the beginning.

The prince took a deep breath. "I hope whatever they are preparing is not something that puts the delegations or the city in danger, because there are too many people gathered here for us to respond carelessly if something happens."

Ning nodded.

"You should prepare as though something will happen anyway, because hoping they do nothing won’t help once it starts, while extra guards and tighter security won’t hurt even if tomorrow turns out to be completely normal."

The prince accepted the advice, even if Ning could tell he was not pleased with how little information he had been given.

"I’ll have the security council adjust the arrangements tonight and make certain every important location is reinforced before the summit begins," the prince said.

"That’s probably the best thing you can do," Ning said. "What about the venue itself? I don’t believe the summit takes place inside the palace, does it?"

"No, there’s a large conference hall prepared for this sort of thing near the sea. That is where it will be held," he said. "Don’t worry about the security inside the venue itself. It’s very easy to defend. And more than that, it has one of the strongest suppressors available in all of Veronoth."

Ning raised an eyebrow. "About that, I suggest you dismantle the device before people arrive tomorrow," Ning told the man.

Tarian’s eyes narrowed. "What do you mean? Why should I ever do that?"

"Because these Numbers can use their powers even inside a suppression field. If they were to gain access to this device, they could easily activate it, causing every single hero inside the venue to become useless while they alone will hold all the power."

The prince couldn’t believe his ears.

"They can use their powers while being suppressed?" he asked. "How is that possible?"

"I do not know precisely myself, but I’ve had to fight them while they acted inside a suppression field," Ning said. "Based on my understanding, it has something to do with the suppression field’s frequency not affecting them because Tritus has done something to their power."

The prince sat with the information, taking it all in.

"I... I’ll think about it," he said.

He didn’t accept Ning’s advice outright, so Ning couldn’t do much. He had done all he could do at this point.

Tarian collected the folder and stood.

He looked as though he wanted to ask again who had contacted Ning, but eventually decided against it, perhaps understanding from Ning’s earlier answer that he would not receive the name.

"I will be leaving now. I will fill you in if I find more information."

The prince left.

Ning closed the door and was finally left alone. There was not much left for him to think about now. He just had to wait for tomorrow and hope for the best.

Morning came quickly.

Someone from the Conjoran delegation arrived outside his room and informed him that President Morstell wanted everyone gathered for breakfast before they began the day’s schedule, so he followed the attendant through the palace and entered one of the private dining rooms that had been assigned to their delegation.

Most of the group was already there.

President Morstell sat near the head of the long table with Foreign Minister Kors beside her, several members of her security detail stood farther back near the walls, while Lightspeed, Stonewall, Farhand, Sharron, and a handful of researchers and government officials had already begun eating from the large collection of food prepared by the palace staff.

Ning took an empty seat near the others.

President Morstell waited until most of the delegation had settled before placing her cup down.

"Our presentation will take place shortly after noon, which puts us later than most of the other major delegations. I want nothing to leak before that."

Ning continued eating while listening.

"Who goes before us?" Lightspeed asked.

President Morstell named several countries whose presentations would take place throughout the morning, explaining that most of them would focus on economic agreements, military cooperation, new laws, scientific developments, and matters that were important politically but unlikely to attract the same level of attention as Conjora’s technology.

Ning stopped eating when one particular country came to mind.

"What about Faedria?"

President Morstell looked toward him.

"They have one of the earlier positions this morning, and from what we were told, the three candidates for their throne will all be present because much of their presentation is expected to concern Faedria’s future leadership and its relationship with the other nations."

Ning nodded slowly.

She turned toward him.

"I need the cases ready before we leave. I do not want anything delayed because we are still waiting for the cargo."

Ning finished what remained on his plate.

"Consider it done."

The president gave him a long look but said nothing more.

"Good. Then go get dressed. We will be leaving in half an hour."

Ning left the dining room and walked back toward his room while the palace around him grew increasingly active, with servants moving quickly between halls, royal guards taking their positions near every entrance, foreign officials leaving their assigned wings, and vehicles gathering in the courtyards to transport the delegations toward the summit grounds.

The promised day had begun.

Within half an hour, the summit would officially be underway, and the busiest day for him yet would be upon him.

Tritus, the Numbers, and Leamor.

He would have to deal with all of them today.

And he was ready for it.

Ning dressed in his black and gold hero costume instead of a regular suit and tie, as that would be what this world required of him today.
