Chapter 1967: Something Planned
Chapter 1967: Something Planned
Both Void and Tarian were unable to believe what they were hearing.
"You... you aren’t of this world?"
"No," Ning answered. "I came here some time ago hunting Tritus. I don’t really want to go into detail on that, so you can just know that I came here to help this world."
"How can we believe that?" Void asked.
"Well, I killed Tritus, didn’t I?" Ning asked.
Void frowned a little.
"So the Numbers were aliens as well?" Tarian asked.
"No, they were most definitely people of this world. Tritus was simply exploiting those who wanted power and using them," Ning answered. "Most of them probably didn’t understand what he really was. Some knew more than others, but Tritus had no problem using people as long as they helped him reach whatever goal he had."
The prince went quiet for a moment. "And all the Numbers are dead as well?"
"They are all taken care of," Ning said.
Void spoke again. "You left right in the middle of the summit. Did you go to kill him?"
Ning nodded.
"You knew where he was?" Void asked.
"Sort of. He hid himself well, so I had to wait until he revealed himself. Which he did in the middle of the summit."
"What happened?" Tarian asked.
Ning answered truthfully. That was partially why he had come here anyway.
"There is a boy south of Bronveria who awakened a power today so strong that he could extinguish all life on this world," Ning said, looking toward the two people.
Void gulped slightly. "What power?"
"In simple words, he can convert the liquid in his body into energy. Pure energy, and that much energy in one place causes explosions. You might have heard news of earthquakes in that region today. That was partially the reason."
The prince frowned a little. He hadn’t heard anything like that, but it made sense.
Tarian immediately leaned forward. "And Tritus was using his power to destroy this world?"
"No, Tritus had another plan. He wanted this world to be filled with terror, so he used the boy’s power to generate the energy required to open a wormhole that led elsewhere."
Neither man spoke for several seconds.
Void was the first to react. "Another world?"
Ning nodded. "A completely different planet."
"Why? What’s on that planet?" Void asked.
"Demons," Ning answered. "Imagine Imps and Infernals, but a world full of them, each one looking for conquest. Each one with powers you could not imagine. I cannot say they would win against all the heroes, but I can say that they would relish the terror that would spread throughout this world. Tritus most of all would enjoy that."
That answer brought another silence. Tarian looked disturbed.
"And you closed it?"
Ning nodded.
"What happened to the demons?" Void asked.
"They went home."
Void looked at him. "Willingly?"
"Most of them."
Tarian rubbed his forehead.
The summit had already involved assassins, Tritus’ Numbers, and Ning openly threatening an international representative, yet somehow the situation had expanded into demons arriving through another world before the day was even over.
"Why didn’t you tell anyone this earlier?" he asked.
"Because there was nothing anyone at the summit could have done about it," Ning said. "Tritus was dead, the portal was closed, and the immediate problem was already finished. Telling a room full of politicians that another world had nearly invaded would have created panic without solving anything."
Tarian did not look happy with the reasoning, but he could not immediately argue against it.
Void remained more focused on Ning.
"How strong are you if you can stop this otherworldly... thing?" he asked.
Ning chuckled. "Your world does not have the capacity to gauge my power."
Tarian remained quiet for a moment before another question came to mind.
"If you’re not of this world, then what was all of that about your family being killed?" he asked. "You said Leamor murdered your wife and son, but if you aren’t really the person everyone thinks you are, how does any of that make sense?"
Ning leaned back slightly before answering. "I took over someone else’s life when I came here. His name was Valen Jassens, and everything I said about his family really happened. Alya was his wife, and the child Leamor killed was his son."
Tarian frowned as he tried to understand what Ning meant, while Void remained silent beside him and listened carefully.
"So what are you going to do about Leamor?" Tarian asked.
"Kill him, of course," Ning said without hesitation, though his tone remained casual. "Eventually."
The prince stared at him for a few seconds, clearly unhappy with how easily Ning said it. Void shifted the conversation toward the other matter Ning had mentioned.
"What about the boy in Bronveria?"
"Jun’Tal," Ning said. "For now, I want to help him learn how to control his power. Afterward, well... that is actually where the two of you come in," Ning said.
Both men looked toward him with greater interest.
"I have something planned, but I’m not completely sure how well it will work out yet. I’ll probably stay around this world for a few more years, so there’s no immediate rush, but when I eventually leave, I’m going to need people here who can help with what comes after."
Tarian exchanged a glance with Void. Neither of them knew exactly what Ning had in mind, but the way he spoke made it clear that this was not something he had brought them together to discuss casually.
"What exactly are you planning?" Tarian asked.
Ning smiled slightly. "I’ll explain it properly once I’ve thought things through. Give me a couple of days."
Void sighed at the deliberately incomplete answer, although he did not look particularly surprised by it. Tarian seemed equally curious, but after everything they had learned about Ning, both of them understood that whatever he intended would probably be far outside anything they had expected when the night began.
Still, neither refused.
"If you need my help when the time comes, then fine," Tarian said.
Void gave a small nod as well. "Same here."
Ning looked between the two of them and smiled.
For now, that was all he needed.
