Reincarnated as an Energy with a System

Chapter 2023: Upgrade System: Tutorial

Chapter 2023: Upgrade System: Tutorial

<Beginning tutorial.>

Naysha’s eyes narrowed behind the visor.

<The Upgrade System provides three primary functions.>

A new series of messages appeared across Naysha’s vision.

<First: Repair. Damaged machinery may be analyzed and restored, provided the required materials and permitted repair capacity are available.>

<Second: Schematics. Machinery scanned by the System may be analyzed and recorded as a usable schematic.>

<Third: Upgrade. Recorded machinery may be improved beyond its current design, provided sufficient upgrade capacity and the required materials are available.>

Naysha remained silent while reading. She turned to Ning as if to ask something, but before she could, the System interrupted again.

<Tutorial Quest Unlocked>

<Quest: Fix the Charging Stand.>

Naysha looked toward Ning. "Charging stand?"

Ning reached into his robes again. "Here you go."

He pulled out the stand Crownus had created. Or rather, he pulled out two pieces of it.

Naysha’s expression immediately soured.

"Why is it broken?"

"It came like this," Ning said as he handed both pieces over.

Naysha examined them and quickly realized the problem was not as simple as snapping them back together. The stand had separated along an internal connection, and there were no obvious markings showing how the two pieces were supposed to align.

"How the hell am I supposed to fix this?"

"You’ve got a System for that now."

The helmet responded almost immediately.

<Quest: Fix the Charging Stand. Scan the damaged charging stand, review its schematic, repair the damaged connection, and recharge the System Helmet.>

<Reward: Tutorial completion. Basic Upgrade System functions unlocked.>

Naysha narrowed her eyes. "How do I scan this thing? Is there an option?"

<Would you like to scan?>

"Yes," she said instantly.

The helmet acted immediately as a layered image appeared over the broken stand while the System began analyzing both pieces. The scan took no more than ten seconds, and when it was completed, a three-dimensional image of the charging stand appeared on her screen, showing what it should look like when fully assembled.

She tried controlling the schematic with her fingers, but before she could even do it, the image was already spinning.

"What?" she said in surprise. "Is it reacting to my thoughts?"

She couldn’t believe it. She thought for it to rotate a bit more before realizing that was indeed the case.

After she was done with it, she focused back on the task at hand and saw the hidden connector buried inside the lower section.

"Oh."

Ning looked at her. "Found it?"

"The upper piece slots in at an angle, then rotates."

She examined the real components more carefully.

There was a narrow locking channel hidden beneath one of the outer plates, almost impossible to notice without already knowing it was there.

Naysha selected it.

The System highlighted the damaged area and provided a short list of steps.

The repair itself was almost embarrassingly simple once she knew what she was looking at. Naysha muttered something under her breath and followed the instructions.

She aligned the two sections, angled the upper piece into the hidden channel, and rotated it until the locking mechanism clicked into place.

The stand powered on immediately.

A small indicator light appeared near the base.

<Please place the helmet on the stand to start charging.>

She removed the helmet and placed it onto the stand. The moment it settled into position, the base lit up red.

Naysha leaned closer.

"Does that mean it’s charging?"

Over the next few minutes, the red light gradually shifted through several colors while the stand hummed softly. Naysha watched the entire process, partly because she was curious and partly because she still did not fully trust anything Ning had handed her.

After barely five minutes, the light turned green.

Naysha picked the helmet up immediately.

"Five minutes?"

Ning shrugged. "It’s a pretty fast charger."

"That’s not just fast. That’s ridiculous. Is the battery tiny or what?"

She checked the charge indicator again after putting the helmet back on.

<Current charge: 100%. Estimated operational duration under standard use: 61 days.>

"WHAT? 2 months?" she said, unable to believe her eyes.

<No personal machine has been registered. Would you like to copy data from a previously existing helmet?>

Naysha’s expression changed immediately.

She looked toward the broken helmet still in Ning’s hands.

"It can copy that?"

Ning raised it toward her. "There’s one way to find out."

Naysha hesitated only briefly before saying, "Yes."

The visor changed again. A faint outline appeared around the ruined helmet, along with a small marker directing her attention toward it.

Ning held the damaged helmet out.

"Here."

Naysha took it from him and slowly turned it in her hands while following the instructions appearing across her vision. The System guided her through several angles, asking her to expose different parts of the helmet until the scan had enough information to reconstruct everything that mattered.

Naysha let out a quiet breath as she realized all of her missing data and credentials had been copied into the new helmet.

It was quite incredible.

Then another message appeared.

<Would you like to alter the physical appearance of your System Helmet to match the recorded model?>

She blinked.

"What?"

Ning looked at her. "Something wrong?"

"It says I can change how this helmet looks."

"Ah, that makes sense."

Ning imagined this was Crownus’ way of making sure that the helmet was usable regardless of what sort of technological advancements had been made. One could still use the helmet without standing out.

The helmet she had been wearing was functional, but its shape looked unfamiliar compared to the standard military equipment used on Truimal. If she walked into a checkpoint wearing it as it was, she would attract questions almost immediately.

Her old helmet, on the other hand, had been registered to her for years.

"Change it," she said.

<Confirming appearance modification. This function may not be used again for one year. Proceed?>

Naysha took a deep breath.

"Yes."
