Chapter 2096: The Hero of Celestial Winds and Songs, Arafunn Delfaina

"Everyone! The barrier is gone, but it might reappear—run as fast as you can! Outside the mountain, several airships are still waiting to take in refugees! Go! Now!" he shouted. "I have created a Wind Path to carry you to safety."
A beautiful melody filled the air. The people looked up to see a single elf floating in the sky, playing his flute and bending the winds from the outside world into their own. The divine barrier shattered and exploded instantly. Gasps of disbelief rose as surging winds swept through the area, resembling endless green butterflies that each transformed into a storm. The monster and every creature behind it were shredded into pieces and utterly vaporized. And that was only Act One.
"A-Ah!"
"Yes!"
"T-Thank you so much!"
"T-That’s...!"
"That’s Hero Arafunn! I recognize him!"
"Yes, it’s him! The Hero of Celestial Winds and Songs, Arafunn Delfaina! The younger brother of the Elven King is here!!!"
"We’re saved!"
"Run, quickly!"
The people leaped from the airport into the mountain’s open air below. Winds guided them gently through the skies toward safety, all of them stunned by the overwhelming power of the Hero of Celestial Winds and Songs.
As the civilians fled, Arafunn turned to face another horde of monsters pouring from a path outside the city—one that led to the most dangerous dungeon besides the Dragon Tomb itself.
The Underground Tower Dungeon!
A dungeon that had taken him and the other heroes years to conquer: one hundred floors, each a vast pocket world teeming with thousands of monsters and guarded by a single, powerful boss.
"WHERE ARE THE HUMANS?!"
"OVER THERE, BRO!"
"HEHEHE, HUMANS!"
Hundreds of monsters formed a giant horde, and among them stood several bosses that had emerged from their dungeons. Each floor boss was monstrously strong, enough to instill despair in the unprepared.
"Hmph. To think I would meet these bastards here..." Arafunn sighed. "I really do have terrible luck, don’t I? I was hoping to return with great fanfare, meet my dear niece, and enjoy a peaceful day. Now it’s all ruined..."
Arafunn recognized the monsters at once. They were the bosses from Floors 1, 2, and 3 of the Underground Tower Dungeon—the very same ones he and his party had defeated years ago. Now they were twisted beyond recognition, bloated with Lolth’s miasma and curse, their forms grotesquely mutated and far more powerful than before.
The Floor 1 Boss, Abyssal Devourer King: a colossal worm-like horror covered in throbbing purple crystals and hundreds of gnashing mouths.
The Floor 2 Boss, Twin-Headed Crystal Tyrant: a hulking golem fused with living crystal and shadow, wielding two massive, jagged swords.
The Floor 3 Boss, Venom Sovereign Arachnid: a nightmarish spider-scorpion hybrid whose legs ended in venom-dripping blades. Lolth’s influence made it eerily reminiscent of her ancient spider divinity.
"Disgusting," Arafunn muttered. He floated gracefully in the air, his green hair dancing in the self-generated winds. "To think something as beautiful as evolution could be corrupted into this."
The three boss monsters, seeing the destruction he had wrought, locked their eyes on him. Faint memories stirred of dying at his hands and those of his small hero party long ago.
"KILL THE ELF!" the monsters roared in distorted unison.
Hundreds of lesser aberrations charged alongside the three floor bosses in a tidal wave of teeth, claws, and miasma.
Arafunn raised his crystalline flute to his lips once more. His abilities had not remained stagnant during the years he had been away. Even though this fight was mostly for the young ones to grow, he had evolved his sonata into new forms and awakened a faint, glowing divine power within himself.
"{Melody of Tempest}: {Act II – Whispering Gale Blades}"
A soft, almost gentle melody flowed from the instrument. At first it sounded like a lullaby, but the winds answered with violence. Countless emerald-green wind blades shaped like glowing butterflies manifested around him, spinning faster and faster until they became invisible razors.
SHIIIIING—!
The entire front line of charging monsters was sliced into countless pieces mid-sprint. Purple blood and crystal shards exploded outward in a gruesome mist. Even the Devourer King screeched as deep gashes tore across its colossal body.
But the Floor 3 Boss, the Venom Sovereign Arachnid, was faster. It skittered across the walls of ruined buildings with unnatural speed and launched barbed webs infused with curse energy.
"Tch." Arafunn spun mid-air and played a rapid trill. A barrier of swirling winds formed around him, shredding the webs into harmless threads. Yet the Arachnid was already behind him, its bladed legs thrusting forward like spears.
CLANG!
A wall of hardened wind stopped the attack, but the force still pushed Arafunn back several meters.
"You’ve grown stronger... or rather, she has made you stronger," he whispered. His golden eyes narrowed. "Fine. Let’s raise the tempo."
He took a deep breath and began playing a much faster, more aggressive melody. The notes were sharp and commanding as he channeled the incredible new power within him. For a moment, the entire world seemed to become a grand sonata, a massive orchestra. The world itself now held music, and Arafunn conducted it, shaping both wind and sound waves into the ultimate weapon.
"{Symphony of the Sky Sovereign}: {Movement III – Heaven’s Judgment}"
The skies above the Southern District answered.
Massive pillars of emerald wind and golden light descended like divine spears, each one precisely striking clusters of monsters. The Twin-Headed Crystal Tyrant tried to block one with its swords, only for both blades and one of its heads to be obliterated in a single strike. The Devourer King burrowed into the ground to escape, but wind blades chased it underground and carved it into chunks.
BOOOM! BOOOM! BOOOM! BOOOM!
Massive explosions reverberated across the battlefield as chaos erupted. Arafunn covered his mouth slightly when he saw several buildings collapse. "Oops," he murmured, quietly lamenting the destructiveness of his beautiful techniques.
"Impressive as always, Arafunn."
A calm, powerful voice rang out as the earth itself trembled. From a side street emerged a towering woman with dark skin, flowing vine-like hair, and eyes glowing with primal power. She carried a massive living great-axe made of ancient wood and stone that pulsed with life energy.
It was Ninhursag, but something about her had changed greatly. She did not transform into giant monsters right away, yet her aura surged with power. She channeled dozens of different monsters she had absorbed, and her axe—a living extension of her own body, earned through the trials she had faced—swung forward, unleashing a giant swarm of creatures.
