Chapter 491: WHAT ARE THE ODDS?
Chapter 491: WHAT ARE THE ODDS?
"This world is made up of three realms," the man informed Aaron respectfully. His knees pressed firmly against the cold, hard floor, head bowed in deference.
"The mortal realm, which is the first one. Then the immortal realm, and finally the Dao realm. Stories have been told about the Dao realm, but none of us have been able to confirm its authenticity."
After the tense education session between him and Aaron, where Aaron had dragged him into the sanctuary for a thorough interrogation, Lin Guo followed Aaron’s request without hesitation.
He explained everything he knew about his universe, or "realm" as it was called here, his voice steady despite the lingering fear in his eyes.
"So, what realm are we in right now?" Aaron asked out of genuine curiosity.
The air in the sanctuary felt thick and familiar, a stark contrast to the foreign essence outside.
"The mortal realm," Lin Guo explained patiently. "It is the realm where cultivation begins, until one ascends into
His words carried a hint of reverence, as if speaking of ascension stirred deep-seated dreams within him.
The sanctuary’s dim, ethereal light cast long shadows across his bare chest, highlighting the sweat beading on his skin from earlier exertion.
"They will probably be in the Dao realm," Aaron muttered to himself, piecing together the implications.
"I can’t waste my time being here."
He knew the mortal realm had nothing substantial to offer him.
Its energies felt weak and diluted compared to what he needed.
With a decisive nod, he prepared to leave, his mind already shifting to higher pursuits.
"Dear sir," Lin Guo interjected quickly, bowing his head even lower until his forehead nearly touched the ground. "Please accept one request of mine."
"What do you want?" Aaron asked flatly, his tone laced with mild impatience.
He was prepared to inquire about the path to ascension, but this interruption grated slightly.
"Please join my sect and help elevate its status to greatness!" the man begged earnestly. He kowtowed fully now, his large frame trembling with desperation and hope.
"I don’t have time for stuff like that," Aaron replied dismissively. "You will have to figure that out yourself."
His words hung in the air, cold and final. The sanctuary’s walls seemed to absorb the sound, leaving only silence in their wake.
"What if I provide the way to heal your soul from the damage it’s suffering?" Lin Guo asked, his voice pure and intentions clear, driven by a genuine desire to save his crumbling sect.
Boom!
Aaron’s aura flared uncontrollably, a surge of raw power that blasted through the entire sect compound outside the sanctuary.
Stones cracked, walls crumbled, and debris scattered like leaves in a storm.
"How did you know?" Aaron demanded coldly.
He seized Lin Guo by the sleeve, yanking him upright with effortless strength.
His eyes narrowed into slits, suspicion burning bright.
Back in his original universe, not even Baal had detected the damage to his soul.
The fracture had been hidden deep, a lingering scar from past battles.
A random cultivator knowing about it was deeply problematic to Aaron.
Could it mean his vulnerability might be exploited by others in this new realm?
The thought sent a chill through him, sharpening his senses.
"Please don’t hurt me," the man begged frantically.
He raised his hands in surrender, fear widening his eyes. "It’s just the special gift I have, Soul-Seeing Eyes!"
"Hmm," Aaron brooded quietly. He calmed himself gradually, releasing Lin Guo’s sleeve and setting him down with controlled gentleness.
"Thank you," Lin Guo acknowledged weakly.
His voice shook, knees still trembling from the scare.
He had glimpsed death mere seconds ago, the aura’s pressure like a vice around his throat.
"Don’t thank me yet," Aaron warned. "Explain where you got that information."
Lin Guo swallowed hard, his throat dry and tight. He knew his next revelation might very well get him killed, the words heavy on his tongue.
But seeing a potential way to bolster his sect’s strength? The opportunity was too golden to pass up, even at the risk of his life.
"The soul damage," he began cautiously. "I have seen it before in one of our sect scrolls. It’s the notorious Soul Severance technique. And seeing how it perfectly damaged your soul, I believe it’s the work of Chen Mo, our sect’s god."
"Eek!" Lin Guo cried out in shock, flinching as if expecting a fatal blow. He saw his life flash before his eyes in that tense moment.
But to his immense surprise, Aaron remained calm.
He let the information sink in without immediate reaction, his expression thoughtful rather than enraged.
"So?" Aaron asked evenly. "Have any remedy for my circumstances?"
"Actually, I do," Lin Guo replied, hope flickering back into his voice.
"It involves me offering you our sect’s treasure. I know you will do a lot of things for the sect that will make the value of the treasure pale in comparison, but I just hope you don’t look down on its worth still."
He stared at Aaron with wide, pleading eyes, like a cat begging for scrapsz hoping to rope him in with the promise.
[Take his offer.]
"Why?" Aaron asked the system mentally, surprised that it would advise him so directly.
[What are the odds you end up in a sect that has Chen Mo as the sect god? And not just that, but can also solve your soul issue on the very first day?]
"So you’re saying I’m just lucky?"
[Yes. The reason you should accept it.]
"Alright."
Aaron agreed to Lin Guo’s terms without further hesitation.
What could be more difficult than raising the prestige of a rundown sect?
In his mind, it seemed a trivial task compared to the battles he had faced.
"Yes!" Lin Guo exclaimed in unrestrained joy. His face lit up like a child’s, eyes sparkling. "I will be right back!"
He ran off eagerly to procure the treasure, his footsteps echoing through the sanctuary’s halls.
---
"So you’re saying this pill can heal my damaged soul?" Aaron asked, staring at Lin Guo with deep suspicion.
He eyed the tiny pill in the man’s hand, its surface shimmering faintly with an inner glow.
"Not quite directly," Lin Guo replied, his eyes beaming with barely contained excitement.
"But we have everything we need to make it happen."
"Very well," Aaron said, nodding slowly. "Let’s get on with it."
The sanctuary’s ambient light cast a soft hue over the pill, making it seem almost ethereal in Lin Guo’s palm.
"But first, we will need to return to wherever you took me the first time," Lin Guo added cautiously.
"Agreed," Aaron replied with a faint smile.
"In case you mess up, I can just kill you for as long as I want without being bothered."
A part of him actually hoped Lin Guo would slip up, as Aaron needed a reason to give Lin Guo a good beating.
