Chapter 1091: Increased Casualties
Chapter 1091: Increased Casualties
Within the Game Forum post of Nightmare Descend: Vanguard Guild’s End, many players had begun posting videos and screenshots of their achievements in killing a Vanguard Guild member.
It didn’t matter what rank the members were. As long as they wore the Vanguard Guild emblem, they would target and kill them immediately.
After all, once the killing was done and recorded, they would be paid generously, followed by a big discount in the Miracle Chamber of Commerce.
In less than half an hour since the post was created, there had been an increased casualties revolving around the Vanguard Guild members. However, one must keep note that each casualty resulted in at least 5 enemies slain in the meantime.
Each Vanguard Guild member was fierce and never went down without putting up a strong fight. Even the regular members were fighting ferociously, going as far as to kamikaze themselves alongside the enemies.
As the situation escalated, especially in Star Falls City, Vanguard Guild members were temporarily ordered to stay within the city and refrain from going outside.
Meanwhile, things weren’t going well at Haven Wind Town either.
Town Hall, Haven Wind Town
"Report, the enemies have surrounded the perimeter completely. Our patrol units have been hit hard, and the NPC guards we hired have taken significant damage." Dark Night arrived at the town hall and reported to Veronica.
The situation was too urgent, and Dark Night reckoned that sending a message to Veronica wouldn’t help much.
With the current situation, Veronica’s inbox was destined to be overloaded with messages. Some were filled with concerns from allies, and most were filled with threats from enemies.
Veronica sat behind the desk and nodded her head in understanding.
She wanted to say something when another report came in from Blue Star and Lightning Blade.
"This isn’t working out, Guild Captain." Lightning Blade flashed a bitter smile and explained, "The NPC guards are now demanding higher pay and compensation for the increased number of enemies."
"Our members are also suffering heavily. The enemies purposely wore low-grade equipment and bombarded us with numbers alone. Even if we kill them, the loot we obtained in return isn’t even enough to cover the losses." Blue Star chimed in and spoke of the enemies’ vile methods.
This was no longer a mere battle of attrition. Instead, it was a full-blown war with the enemies playing extremely dirty.
Not only would their side receive zero benefit from the killing, but they would also lose more in return when their members lost their quality equipment upon death.
For some reason, their side seemed prone to losing valuable equipment compared to the average rate. It was as if the enemies had some utilities that enabled them to obtain more loot when killing an enemy.
Veronica’s brows knitted tightly. ’If the enemies could really force us to drop high-quality gear upon death, then our precious equipment would fall into their hands at this rate.’
She frowned deeply at the implication behind the issue. Their members were trained well and could utilize the equipment offered to them. However, even a ranker would falter in the face of a swarm, and no recovery time was granted.
Just when Veronica was about to sound the retreat alarm to prevent their equipment from falling into the enemy’s hands, her eyes suddenly lit up after seeing a message notification.
Lightning Blade, Blue Star, and Dark Night noticed her beaming expression almost immediately. The trio glanced at each other, seemingly communicating in silence about what had happened.
A while ago, Veronica’s expression could be said to be very dark and gloomy. Yet she was now beaming in a holy light.
How could they not be stunned by the drastic change?
Naturally, there was a reason why Veronica behaved in such a manner.
"Haha, have the elites all gather at the town hall immediately!" She stood up and declared loudly.
"Have the elites all gathered here at the Town Hall? Are we going to group together to confront them?" Dark Night asked in a somewhat dazed tone. After all, this action meant there was no path of retreat left.
Once all their elites were defeated and killed, the morale was destined to be at an all-time low. By then, those smear campaigns, followed by the lack of numbers in the town’s defense, would become a fat juicy piece of meat for the enemies to devour.
"Could it be that Miss Crimson Heart has crafted something amazing that could turn the tide?" Blue Star inquired. She highly doubted Veronica would suddenly summon all the elites who were being deployed at critical areas.
Veronica shook her head in response.
"Could it be that our Guild Commander will lead us to battle?" Lightning Blade’s eyes seemed to light up as he wondered about the possibility of fighting alongside Carmen.
Veronica once again shook her head, keeping them in suspense.
"Is it our Guild Leader returning?" Finally, Dark Night asked the remaining person who could possibly invoke Veronica to summon all elites.
The other two also realized this was definitely the most probable case. Such a major event naturally required the presence of their Guild Leader to take charge.
However, to their astonishment, Veronica shook her head for the third time. She effectively eliminated the possible candidates that they brought up.
Amidst their confusion, Blue Star suddenly recalled one more individual.
"Ah, could it be our honorary elder?" She clasped her hands and exclaimed.
"Right, how did we forget about the honorary elder?"
"Indeed, the honorary elder held a lot of influence and authority, even more than the Guild Commanders."
As their eyes shifted to Veronica, they were once again disappointed by her head shaking. Seeing how it was wrong again, the trio gave up and pleaded for the answer to be revealed.
"Alright, I won’t keep you in suspense anymore." Veronica mused and said, "The person who will lead us is Eclipse Nova."
"ECLIPSE NOVA?"
The trio’s eyes widened in astonishment before excitement overwhelmed them. The only appearance that Eclipse Nova ever made was during the siege against their base city. And now it was happening once again, except this time, it was their guild’s town.
