Chapter 1145: Phantasm Fish No More
Chapter 1145: Phantasm Fish No More
Shortly after the monster number count had decreased substantially, Xu Feng went under the sea to search for Arthur.
He wanted to see if their scale could potentially fend off the Abyssal Eye’s curse.
However, when he arrived at the habitat location, he was stunned.
"Where did the habitat go?" He raised an eyebrow.
His memory was fairly decent, so he knew he was in the right place.
As if trying to confirm he was in the correct area, he returned to the warship and glanced at the Phantasm Map.
Indeed, the marker showed he was directly on top of the Beacon Shrine, meaning he didn’t go to the wrong place.
Amidst his confusion, Burpe suddenly retreated from the hydro cannon and approached an ordinary rock.
"Burope..." Burpe glanced at the rock and said in a melancholy tone. It closed its eyes, almost as if it was trying to pay respect.
Seeing the situation, Xu Feng knew something was amiss.
He slowly swam toward Burpe and inquired, "What’s the matter, Burpe?"
Although he held some answers in mind, none of them were verified or confirmed. He wasn’t going to behave like he knew everything at the back of his hand.
Burpe didn’t bother to respond and simply extended its hand to touch the rock. In the next instance, some magical residual floated toward the rock, and a projection screen was revealed.
Within the projection screen was a familiar Phantasm Fish, Arthur.
Arthur appeared very carefree, devoid of his previous suppressed emotions.
"Hehe, if you managed to see the message I’ve left behind, then it means you’re still doing well, Sea Traveler." Arthur lightly chuckled.
"There’s no need to look for me or try to find the entry point either. Our Phantasm Fish ceased to exist now that the beacon had activated. I’m sorry that you have to hear it in this form, Sea Traveler. But each of the requests you have made was the last will of our species. The beacon required the magical residue in our body to cleanse and purify the sea."
Xu Feng’s expression remained indifferent.
It wasn’t that he was heartless or anything, but mainly because he had somewhat anticipated it was going to turn out like this.
The fulfillment of the Phantasm Fish’s desire, the purification bubbles, and the beacon shrine require approval. Each one of the obstacles veered to the point where they wanted to determine if he was worthy of their sacrifices.
While Xu Feng gradually accepted that the Phantasm Fish he encountered were no more, the message from Arthur didn’t stop there.
"Anyway, seeing how the message has been triggered. I reckoned the changes done by the beacon must have affected the scales. But fret not, I knew the prophesied Sea Traveler would return, so before our dissipation, we gathered most of our pure energy to construct a superior scale."
The message ended abruptly there, the projection screen turning into magical particles as it rushed toward Xu Feng. Or more specifically, it was rushing toward the scale on his hand.
In the blink of an eye, the upgraded scale had transformed into the Superior Scale, a Legendary rank item.
Its function remained the same, albeit more potent, and enabled him to turn it on or off.
’The Superior Scale could even fend off the Abyssal Eye’s curse temporarily...’ Xu Feng read the description and noticed that it could fend off the curse for half an hour. Additionally, it could also weaken the curse for 1 hour.
Needless to say, he had a time limit of 1 hour and 30 minutes when exploring the other area outside the beacon’s scope.
Although the scales had transformed into an extremely powerful utility, Xu Feng didn’t express any joy or excitement.
The item came at a cost from the whole species—all that for the goal of cleansing and purifying the corrupted Phantasm Sea.
"Burope~" Amidst his momentary thought process, Burpe approached him and gently patted his back.
"Arthur’s sacrifice is not to be treated as sorrowful. His will is to cleanse the Phantasm Sea, even at the cost of his life." Burpe suddenly explained, much to his astonishment.
"You can talk again?" He raised an eyebrow.
"I’m not Burpe."
"???"
"Let’s just say I’m the dormant spirit occupying Burpe as a medium. I can only speak to you right now because of the magical residue left behind by Arthur. Once the effect is over, I’ll be in a dormant state again." The spirit said.
"You’re a dormant spirit, huh. Then what about Burpe?" Xu Feng didn’t care for who the spirit was, but cared about Burpe as an individual.
The spirit wasn’t offended by the question and actually seemed pleased by his reaction.
"Burpe is safe and sound. I’m merely occupying it temporarily, and not controlling it."
"I suppose Burpe’s abnormal power also came from you then."
"Not bad insight. Indeed, the abnormal power was sourced unconsciously by Burpe from me."
"And I suppose you are the same kind as Arthur?"
"Yes and no. Arthur and I go way back, but there’s no point dwelling on it anymore. I only came here to warn you to not kill too many of the monsters in the sea. They might be corrupted, but once you successfully cleanse the sea, they will return to normal. A sea without any species living in it would cease to exist."
Xu Feng wanted to inquire further until the dormant spirit vanished without any warning.
"Burope?" Burpe’s actual self returned and glanced at him curiously.
Looking at Burpe’s ignorant and innocent-like state, Xu Feng simply flashed a warm smile and patted its head in comfort.
The one who gently patted his back was Burpe, and not the dormant spirit.
The latter simply took advantage of the slight opening to give him a warning.
How hilarious was that for the dormant spirit to assume a moral high ground!
’Occupying Burpe’s body, and proceeded to act mysteriously while trying to advise me otherwise. You might as well be grouped together with the Abyssal Eye and play some chess instead.’ He sneered inwardly. As if he would be foolish enough to take the dormant spirit words for it!
