Chapter 1154: Tier 6 Gerry
Chapter 1154: Tier 6 Gerry
Facing the dreadful pressure, Xu Feng’s posture remained steady.
Although it was difficult to resist the pressure, it wasn’t completely unmanageable.
He reckoned the Tier 6 figure must be testing his strength and whether he was worthy.
After all, this was the mindset for every strong person who was snobbish and believed themselves to be the strongest.
They enjoyed imparting their dogshit knowledge and commenced some testing.
If the latter disappointed them, then they would shake their head and comment on how they needed more improvement.
And if the latter received some approval, then they would be like: the person was worth watching a little bit.
Then there was the one who received the majority approval, and they’ll start saying the person was worth nurturing.
Lastly, the most cringe version. The latter stunned them thoroughly, prompting them to only utter the word interesting, almost as if they knew something. But in reality, they knew nothing and were just trying to save face.
’Now, which version is this, Senior?’ Xu Feng sneered inwardly.
Imagine needing to raise your value by flexing the strength that you gained a long time ago against a newcomer!
Xu Feng wanted to spit at these overconfident and delusional old folks who were blinded by their past glory.
"Interesting... you can resist the pressure that I control to around the Tier 3 power." The Tier 6 figure suddenly commented.
Hahahaha!
Xu Feng nearly laughed aloud when the figure was the most cringey type. He only prayed that Tier 6 was just cringe in this aspect and not many more.
Thankfully, he managed to control and suppress his inner thoughts well.
"I thank the Senior for the praise, but I’m only barely able to resist the pressure." He remained humble and refused to take any credit.
"Haha, there’s no need to downplay yourself." The Tier 6 figure laughed. "To be able to fend off the pressure from me, Gerry. That alone proves your capability."
"..."
Speechless, Xu Feng didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.
Was there ever someone as shameless as him to introduce themselves in such a fashion?
Also, what the hell does he mean by capability?
Had it been any other regular Tier 1 players who were suddenly faced with the pressure of a Tier 3, then Xu Feng reckoned they would have immediately faltered.
’I doubt even Carmen could withstand the pressure she had never faced before.’ Xu Feng cursed silently.
He only managed to fend it off because he had faced similar pressures in the past timeline. But even then, he felt his legs weakening from trying to balance himself at this instance.
He was still a lowly tier 1 player!
He reached level 70, but had yet to complete the tier advancement test.
And now, his status screen was inflicted with multiple status ailments courtesy of this Gerry.
Just how much more terrible luck could he stumble across?
Shortly after the pressure was lifted, Xu Feng heaved a sigh of relief.
"May I ask who Senior Gerry is?" He asked softly.
"Who am I?" Gerry appeared to be in deep thought.
"I’m merely the last guardian of this place." His figure appeared misty upon recalling some old memories.
’Last guardian?’ Xu Feng silently absorbed the information. Based on their behavior and somewhat melancholy tone, he had a feeling that Gerry was the only one left in this beacon shrine.
That would explain a lot of the current layout!
After all, being alone means having a lot of time to idle around. Once idled for so long, it would reach a certain point of extreme boredom. To quench boredom, one needs to find a hobby to distract oneself.
Without a doubt, the current maze-like environment must have been designed and constructed by Gerry to pass the time.
"Senior Gerry, I am here to activate the final beacon to find the light for Shade Island."
"Ah, find the light for Shade Island? I suppose the other two beacons must have been activated then."
Realization dawned upon Gerry as he eyed Xu Feng with great intrigue.
"Do you know why Shade Island is an elusive and mysterious island?" Gerry suddenly asked.
Xu Feng shook his head in response.
His main mission from the very beginning was fairly straightforward. He wanted to complete Handsome Chao’s mission, Phantom’s Wake, which only mentioned discovering the Shade Island and nothing else.
It was just that along the process, he stumbled across many lore and unexpected schemes from others.
Seeing his confused expression, Gerry held an "expected" look.
"The Shade Island can be considered the sustainer of the Phantasm Sea. I reckon you know about the Abyssal Tide and its corrosiveness to our species. All of them were leaked from Shade Island."
"Shade Island is the source of the corruption?" Xu Feng raised an eyebrow.
"No, don’t be mistaken." Gerry quickly shook his head and explained, "The Shade Island was supposedly a peaceful island where all Phantasm Species gather to nourish themselves. That was until the birth of an Abyssal Eye stemming from the Abyssal Tide."
"Let me guess. The Abyssal Tide gave birth to the Abyssal Eye because of the Sirens’ civil war?" Xu Feng questioned.
Startled, Gerry hurriedly coughed a few times. He was of the Siren race, but he didn’t intend to reveal the truth.
Who could have imagined the Sea Traveler was so insightful as to have guessed the birth of the Abyssal Eye was related to their race?
’Hmph, as expected. The problems all stemmed from greed in the end.’ Xu Feng sneered inwardly. The Sirens dominated the Phantasm Sea for so long, but just like humans, there were bound to be some ungrateful folks among their race.
Rather than being satisfied with what they had, they wanted more from elsewhere—preferably dangerous yet alluring things.
And what could possibly be more alluring than the Shade Island?
The so-called sustainer of the Phantasm Sea!
The adrenaline rush to control something that sustains the whole sea was like drugs to those holding vast influence and power.
They just loved to seek things they knew were far-fetched!!
