Chapter 1441: Royal Court Part 1
Chapter 1441: Royal Court Part 1
A few minutes had gone by, and all Xu Feng listened to was Jessica warning him this and that.
Though the overall gist was that Jessica actually hoped they could resolve the conflict amicably and not overboard.
It wasn’t that Jessica cared about those fencesitters, but she cared about humanity as a whole.
The time was really sensitive for them to have any infighting.
Their goal and objective should only be one thing, and that is to repel the Colossuses’ invasion.
"Can you please promise you can at least forgive some of them?" Jessica pleaded with teary eyes.
"I can only promise I won’t go overboard if they don’t cross my boundaries." Xu Feng smiled briefly. Truth be told, the hit list he sent to his people was only those who were vile and bound to betray humanity anyway.
As for the others included in the accusation, he had yet to physically impale them to oblivion.
After all, the current timeline was no longer the same as the past timeline.
He couldn’t possibly judge everyone based on the past timeline, especially when there were already butterfly effects involved.
Hence, he was willing to forgive if they were truly in the belief that he had betrayed humanity and not outright slandering for their benefit.
Sometime later, Jessica guided him to the built-in transportation.
"Are you sure you don’t need to prepare anything?" She asked once again. Once they arrived at the Aetheria Empire, it would be too late.
They would immediately be escorted to the Royal Court for a hearing. So if they wish to brief on something, it is better to do it now.
"Prepare?" Xu Feng raised an eyebrow. "What’s there to prepare for? I’m just going to go in there and say, yes, I betrayed humanity. What about it?"
Jessica’s jaw nearly dropped at that moment. She glanced at him with utter disbelief.
"W-What did you just say?" She believed her ears might have heard incorrectly.
"I’ll plead guilty." He repeated, this time in a clear voice.
Sure enough, Jessica felt her brain had short-circuited when she heard him the second time.
Why?
Just why in the world would he plead guilty to such a grave offense?
It didn’t even make sense!
"Can you tell me why you’re doing this?" Jessica trembled slightly and asked.
"Aren’t you curious about something?" Xu Feng flashed a mysterious smile. He had long wanted to test whether or not he had enough influence to affect the current state of the Divine World.
If he pleaded guilty and decided to revoke all his support, then what would happen?
"The Star Falls City would reduce to its previous state if you revoked the Arcane Vein from us for mining." As much as Jessica hated to admit it, his value was indispensable in Star Falls City.
It wasn’t even an exaggeration to say that the City Lord could be replaced by anyone, but Xu Feng absolutely could not be replaced.
After all, the Arcane Vein only recognized him as the owner and nobody else.
As for attempting to seize ownership from him, that was even more of a pipedream when one considered Xu Feng’s Immortal status.
Not only could they not forcefully occupy the Arcane Vein by blocking the entrance since one could just teleport inside as long as they received permission from Xu Feng, but they also couldn’t entrap him anywhere.
"Hmm, while I appreciate your opinion, Jessica. Not everyone else within the empire believes in me." Xu Feng calmly said. Even though he was granted the Viscount rank, he never actually received a fief.
In fact, the Army Camp he personally requested was of the lowest tier possible when compared to other Viscounts.
To summarize, they were merely treating him like a trivial pawn who had some uses because of his mount production quality.
Unfortunately for them, they had made a grave mistake when they failed to calculate that the people they recruited to the army would be the best of the best.
Who cares about quantity?
He prioritized quality over quantity because one great quality could easily triumph over numerous quantities in a heartbeat.
"Anyway, let’s just head to the Royal Court hearing. Otherwise, they might start pointing their fingers at you for delaying my arrival." He clasped his hands and urged Jessica to start the transportation.
"Very well..." Jessica sighed softly and nodded. She then pressed a few buttons and injected gold coins to boot up the transportation.
A few seconds later, the platform they were standing on began glowing brightly.
Soon, they were shrouded by a white light as their silhouette vanished from the spot. By the time the white light dissipated, they found themselves on another platform. And as one had anticipated, there were multiple soldiers wearing the emblem that represented the Aetheria Empire.
"Are you Receptionist Jessica and the accused, Viscount Lin Feng?" One of the soldiers, who was clearly dressed better than the rest, approached them and questioned.
"That is correct," Jessica nodded and flashed her badge of identification.
The soldier inspected it for less than a few seconds before nodding his head. He then turned his gaze to Xu Feng, his intention rather obvious.
"I have no identification. Give or take, you can choose to believe I’m the accused or not." Xu Feng shrugged. Since he planned on wreaking havoc and proving a point, he would be damned to follow some procedure they had set up.
And sure enough, the soldier quickly frowned at his uncooperative behavior.
However, when he thought about the time constraint, he merely snorted and turned his attention back to Jessica.
"Please proceed to the Royal Court along with the accused. The judges and juries are all seated already." They reminded her about how they were late to the hearing.
"I understand. Thanks for the reminder." She gracefully accepted the statement and glanced at Xu Feng.
Xu Feng held a carefree and laidback attitude as he placed his hands behind his head.
"Yeah, thanks for being a good watchdog." He complimented the soldier, shocking both Jessica and the nearby soldiers.
