Chapter 1453: The Retaliation Part 4
Chapter 1453: The Retaliation Part 4
The atmosphere within the center of Numon City was suffocating and intense.
No actual fighting had occurred, but the presence of Void and adept usage in repelling the law enforcement officers was visible.
Based on such power and their previous statement, the NPCs residing in Numon City were starting to hold some doubts.
Their eyes then shifted at the incense on the ground, which was pointed out earlier by Carmen.
"One-third of the incense had already been burned!"
Nobody knew who called it out, but as soon as they did, some of the people who feared for their lives the most began to rush home.
Even if there was a 0.01% chance of the statement being false, they didn’t dare to gamble their lives away, much less their family.
"I have some business in the Aetheria Empire. I will see you all later." One of the people gave an excuse for a business trip and bid farewell.
Another quickly chimed in and claimed that they had forgotten about an important document from a nearby city.
"Stop it, everyone!" The swordsman NPC officer was startled by the chaos. He couldn’t understand their ignorance and panic. It was just a Void Portal usage and nothing more. Anyone else with a touch of the void power could do such a move with ease.
Alas, not many heeded his advice because Carmen made sure to ensure maximum panic.
"In less than half the incense burn, the Colossuses who the city lord of Numon City collaborated with will siege against this," Carmen said in a cold tone.
"As for why... It’s quite simple. Our Void Force Embassy usually doesn’t interfere in worldly affairs, but the City Lord of Numon City had breached a treaty. Therefore, it was either the ruin of Numon City or the end of the Colossus’ strongholds."
Although what Carmen said sounded extremely far-fetched, it would indeed become logical if they believed her words.
Since they rarely interfere with worldly affairs, it was only natural for most to not know or even hear of the Void Force Embassy.
Moreover, the power of the void was a mystery in itself. It was such an intangible element that required profound comprehension ability to grasp the void power.
"Hmph, a fraudster trying to cause a panic within the city shall be executed!" The swordsman officer had had enough and commanded his team to treat the intruder as a target to be eliminated.
If a panic were to spread across the city while their city lord had gone to attend a royal court hearing, then his head would roll on the ground.
"Yes, Captain!" The other guards also understood the severity. They couldn’t afford for the intruder to continue to run amok under their surveillance.
"Are you kids done making up the plan?"
In the meantime, Carmen sneered coldly.
Her tone and demeanor made her extremely overbearing, yet there was a certain charm to it.
She ignored their glances and calmly shifted to the incense. "Only half an incense is left. You have been warned."
"Hmph, a deceptive trick!" An Arcane Mage officer snorted and fired a barrage of spells at Carmen.
"Did the previous incident not give you any insight?" Carmen chuckled and flicked her hand. Soon, a Void Portal emerged, and the attack that the Arcane Mage made entered through it.
Swoosh!
In the next moment, a Void Portal suddenly emerged next to the "Captain" swordsman NPC.
"Oh boy..." The swordsman NPC swallowed a mouthful of saliva. He had a bad premonition about this ominous void portal next to him.
Sure enough, the void portal started to tremble slightly as the spells that his subordinates had launched earlier were redirected back to him.
"Damn it!" He gnashed his teeth and hurriedly deflected the majority of the spells with his swords.
Unfortunately, he was not a sword god!
After deflecting the 3rd spell, he was subsequently blasted to Narnia.
KABOOM!
A mushroom cloud of black smoke rose to the sky, threatening to cover the clear blue sky with a dark, gloomy atmosphere.
The onlookers felt a cold chill upon witnessing this scene.
The intruder never made an offensive move, but each one was more deadly than the others.
In fact, the Arcane Mage officer held a pale expression upon realizing his attacks harmed his captain.
"CAPTAIN!" They called out and immediately rushed to their aid.
"I’m not dead yet!" Their captain emerged from the smoke, coughed a few times, and grunted in an annoyed tone.
He ignored his subordinate and glanced at Carmen with a somewhat fearful expression. The ability to form a void portal without any delay was frightening enough. But for it to be formed without any mana residual was beyond terrifying.
Now the others were also wary of attacking the intruder. If they could summon void portals unlimited, then wouldn’t all those attacks be transported to their cities?
Although they weren’t positive of this possibility, just the mere thought made them reconsider their planning.
Not to mention, Carmen’s presence was suffocating with bits of her void domain leaking.
Naturally, this was done on purpose by her.
’Haha, so this is what it means to bluff people with confidence.’ Carmen laughed inwardly. These kinds of tricks were taught to her by Xu Feng, who told her that more often than not, the key to a fight was how confident your demeanor could be.
When a person was confident, they would feel like god. Whatever they do, it will succeed.
And your opponent would be trembling in fear because they are now afraid of you.
"The incense is still burning as you all waste time. Don’t blame me when the Colossuses arrive, and your family ends up getting caught in the crossfire. You have been warned in advance." Carmen pretended to look at the far distance and spoke softly.
Unknowingly, the crowd had long become convinced of her strength.
So when they heard her soft statement, they felt as if a grim reaper had extended its scythe over their necks.
Within less than half a second, almost everyone scrambled away to retreat from the city.
If it was a false alarm, then they could always return anyway.
But if it wasn’t, then their lives would be forfeited too.
"What should we do, Captain?" The Arcane Mage guard asked in a cracked voice.
After much difficulty, the Swordsman NPC exhaled softly.
"Let them go..."
