Chapter 1475: Bardmon City Part 5
Chapter 1475: Bardmon City Part 5
Bardmon City, Military Headquarters
Upon arriving at the military headquarters, Xu Feng was dumbfounded.
There were barely any soldiers in the barracks. It was almost like it had become a ghost place, with no signs of life.
’What’s going on here?’ He narrowed his eyes. The crisis was looming, yet not a single soldier could be spotted.
Just when he was confused by the ordeal, a person approached him.
"Who are you and what are you doing in a restricted place?" They asked in a cold tone.
Since Xu Feng had arrived at the military incognito, it goes without saying that the people here wouldn’t know of his identity.
"Where are the soldiers?" Xu Feng directly asked, his tone authoritative.
"They are obviously training." The person responded, unsure of why they even answered in the first place.
The aura and tone of usage from Xu Feng instinctively made him reply as if he were speaking to a superior.
"Then where are they training in?"
"They are in—" Right before they said it, they suddenly snapped out of their state. "Why should I tell you? Hurry up and state your identity; otherwise, you’re going to prison!"
Xu Feng rolled his eyes and directly flashed his medallion. The medallion was issued by the court and proved his authority.
When the person saw the medallion, their face quickly turned pale.
"I-I didn’t know it was honorable, Sir." They went on their knees and explained, "The soldiers are currently dining in a restaurant to relax themselves after a day of hard work."
"Active duty soldiers went to a restaurant to dine?" Xu Feng’s tone turned cold.
"Tell the soldiers to return here immediately. Otherwise, they can forget about their soldier status!" He warned sternly.
"Y-Yes, Sir!"
The person soon left the scene in haste to retrieve the soldiers.
’Unbelievable...’ Xu Feng was rendered speechless by the laidback attitude of these NPCs.
How was he supposed to defend the city when the soldiers had no fighting spirit?
He wasn’t joking when the Colossuses were going to invade Bardmon City, and his desire to be deployed here was not simply eradicating Razor Nightmare, but also to prevent the Colossuses from having further influence.
They had been hovering in the Divine World for long enough. Given the signs and movements from the NPCs, Xu Feng was certain that the Colossuses era was about to be over.
By then, the Glory Era would descend.
And during the Glory Era, players would have another major opponent to deal with, which was none other than Hell Members.
Heaven and Hell would soon clash, forcing players to choose a side to fight alongside.
Therefore, Xu Feng hoped to achieve a suitable amount of merits in the effort to deflect the Colossuses.
’After repelling them this time, our guild will start to shift development.’ He was ready to move on from this and directly send people to the Phantasm Sea.
The Abyssal Eye should have stopped pursuing him after such a long time. It couldn’t possibly afford to constantly expend its energy to track him down.
’Sigh, every time it just reminds me of Burpe...’ He sighed when he opened his status screen.
His eyes were fixated on the pet section. The Mini Earthrender was undergoing evolution from earning enough experience points, but the other one was Burpe with the deceased label.
Ever since Burpe’s death, he had been constantly researching methods for its revival, but to no avail.
Burpe technically didn’t live in the Divine World. It was a species from another dimension.
Maybe the only clue was the Abyssal Eye, but that existence was even more terrifying than the Colossuses.
After all, the Colossuses were suppressed by the laws of the Divine World as opposed to the Abyssal Eye, which was suppressed by the laws of the Phantasm Sea.
While he was distracted by his thoughts, the person from earlier returned alongside numerous footsteps that were uniform.
Their step rhythm was the same.
’At least they didn’t slack on discipline.’ Xu Feng turned around and glanced at their synchronized movement.
A few seconds later, the soldiers lined up accordingly and saluted Xu Feng. They had been briefed by the person regarding his identity.
Hence, they didn’t dare to slight or challenge his authority.
What he represented was not his Viscount status, but the status of a Tier 5 powerhouse.
"Are you sure you don’t want to continue eating more at the restaurant?" Xu Feng crossed his hands behind his back and asked sarcastically.
"NO SIR!"
"The Colossus’ army is nearing the defense border, but you’re clearly still starving. Shall I have you eat more before we continue the briefing?"
"NO SIR!"
As expected, the soldiers were unaware of the political turmoil and only knew how to protect the citizens’ health and wealth.
Their response satisfied Xu Feng. ’Seems like I don’t have to worry about needing to impart military disciplinary actions against them.’
What truly convinced him was their crystal clear eyes.
They probably felt that they would never be able to be deployed.
It was quite common for City Magistrates to retain their power and control by holding their military hostages.
To simplify, greedy City Magistrates would never risk their soldiers to do things that benefit others aside from themselves.
Xu Feng paced himself back and forth.
"Are you all frustrated how the Colossuses are constantly invading our territories and doing things as they please?" He asked thunderously.
"YES, SIR!"
"Then I’ll ask you this! I was sent by Judge Olivia to take control of Bardmon City to repel the Colossus! If you’re a coward who fears for your own life, then step out here immediately. You will be relieved of your duty, and I’ll personally grant you shelter life!"
A few moments later, none of the soldiers took a step forward.
"This could be the last chance you’re ever getting in saving your life." Xu Feng warned one last time.
"Some of you may die in this operation, whereas some of you may be traumatized for life. You probably won’t even get promoted despite surviving either!" He continued, purposely shaking their core values. He lacked the time to actually train them to become real soldiers. He only wanted real soldiers right this instant.
