Chapter 1602: Esports Tournament Part 29
Shortly after the explanation of the rules, Wei Xing raised his hands, and 200 gaming capsules began to rise from beneath the stage.
Yes, 200 whopping gaming capsules that totaled at least millions.
"The World Government is indeed rich." Xu Feng sighed and lamented his poor state.
A gaming capsule cost a lot—something that he wouldn’t even want to buy another one.
The office that he rented in the Apex Tower only consisted of 20 gaming capsules. And that money spent alone had made him want to cry a river of tears.
Yet the World Government directly produced 200 gaming capsules on the spot.
How to boast one’s fortune?
This was it!!!
Keep in mind that these 200 gaming capsules were brand new. They weren’t used or rented.
"Inside the gaming capsules are precisely 200 players who were randomly drawn to participate in the first battle royale solo!" Wei Xing announced, piquing the audience’s curiosity.
"Now you all must be wondering who is inside the capsules, right? Well, buckle up and find out once they enter the field! We will have multiple screens at the side and the main screen here for the exciting moments!"
The audience was entranced by Wei Xing’s words and began to guess who was among the participants.
"Ahh, please be Warlord Echo! It has to be him!"
"Warlord Echo will get destroyed by Titan Breaker."
"Shush, it’s clearly Z3roTrace who will win. It’s a battle royale, and not the highest kill count wins."
Amidst the chattering, Carmen also nudged Xu Feng’s arm.
"Do you have any idea?" She inquired.
"I wouldn’t know until I see who is participating." He responded in an amused tone. He wasn’t a ’know-it-all,’ nor did Wei Xing leak any of the player name list to him.
Both Wei Xing and Xu Feng understood better than anyone what it meant to play fair in a real competition.
As scummy as Xu Feng might be, he refused to go against fairness in actual competition. Those without integrity shouldn’t beg for forgiveness.
Had Wei Xing suggested slipping information to him, then Xu Feng would have been disappointed.
Luckily, Wei Xing told him about the emcee part and emphasized that he wouldn’t reveal any secrets.
Sometime later, the light in the center platform closed.
Wei Xing also stepped away from the stage to continue the commentary from the sideline to avoid blocking the main screen that showed on all four sides.
The design ensured that no matter where the audience was seated, they would get a clear view of the scene.
As the screen opened, everyone could see the players were strapped behind a seat within the airship.
The airship was powered by mana and had a capacity easily reaching more than 200 players.
"Where did the organizer rent an airship?" Carmen was baffled by the airship.
"It should be an empire’s airship. To rent it, I reckon it must cost them at least 30,000 gold coins." Xu Feng commented. His eyes narrowed slightly as he didn’t anticipate that people from the World Government had already established such close ties with the empire.
Aside from the cost required to rent an airship, one needed ample reputation and fame with relevant nobles to be eligible.
The appearance of the airship reminded him that he couldn’t relax for a moment.
There were too many talented players all across the world. They could easily catch up to him even if he had a head start.
The turtle and rabbit race story was the prime example of what it meant to relax and take things easily.
The turtle might be slow, but its dedication and motivation to continue the race without any break ultimately made them the winner.
’But an empire that would lend an airship isn’t a lot. I can think of a few empires that the World Government people had focused on.’ Xu Feng knew he had to investigate the information secretly.
He had no intention of being the World Government’s enemy, but it was better to be informed.
While he was secretly pondering what to do, the players began to drop from the airship.
The map was a large simulated field that had its own distinctive layout. There were some similarities in the environment within the Divine World’s maps, but not by much.
Since it was a battle royale that emphasized fairness, all players could only use items and weapons that were randomly spawned in the field.
It was a whole new concept in which even a healer could equip a gun or a sword to combat.
Of course, the player’s own unique skills were disabled to prevent them from being overpowered. But their combat technique remained present because that was something they knew without relying on the Divine World system.
Some might have questioned the fairness of that, but that was precisely where the items came in to overturn that disparity.
"Oh, looks like player Juggernaut has picked up an Epic Rare Shield Buster already." Wei Xing suddenly announced loudly. "The Shield Buster is essentially the name described. It could shatter the mana shield that players have by 100 points."
A player could have a total of 150 points of mana shield before their health point would start taking damage. Every player had 100 health points and a maximum of 150 mana shield possible.
For the early stage, players begin with 100 health and 50 mana shield, with the remaining 100 gauge for them to personally find a mana shield potion.
Since it was still the early stage, Juggernaut with the Shield Buster would directly shatter the player’s mana shield and deal damage to their health.
"Whoa, this Juggernaut is going to slaughter those near him." Carmen widened her eyes when the screen showed at least 10 players near the Juggernaut.
The other players didn’t even have a weapon. They only got a knife to run around.
"I wouldn’t say for sure." Xu Feng shook his head. "He would be in big trouble if he started going loud and proud."
"Huh, what do you mean by that?"
"Just look."
At that moment, Juggernaut indeed began to act wildly and chase after nearby players. He found one of them and directly rammed them down with the shield blaster.
When the nearby players noticed that, they didn’t flee, but actually charged ahead to target Juggernaut.
